He then took the time to find out what I used the machine for and suggested that I didn't need one of their machines as theirs are more for business, but I could getaway with one from best buy. My used laptop computer, which I'd bought from a private seller some three years ago, had never been a powerhouse, but it was fine for my modest needs. In the past few months, it became slower and slower, and, just as income tax time was looming, it stopped booting up. Not good. (Of course, I had already loaded tax return software on it, and started my tax return.) I dropped it off at his shop, which is neat and organized, on a Friday, and early next week had a diagnosis: the hard drive had failed. I was expecting to have to shop around for another used laptop (which I seem to do every 2 to 3 years), but Steve said it was light work to replace the hard drive. He also recommended increasing the memory from 4GB to 8GB. The price was surprisingly reasonable, so I authorized the work. Even though he had to order the additional memory, the computer was ready for pickup just a few days later, so the turnaround time was surprisingly quick. Steve stands behind his work. There was a very minor issue, which he fixed in five minutes. My laptop not only works well, it boots up much faster than before, and programs load very quickly (partly due to new hard drive technology, and partly due to increased memory). It was money well spent, and will allow me to get more use out of this computer. Parking is limited to on-street, which makes me nervous since the street is hilly and curvy there, but it is what it is. Hours are limited, and since it is a one-man business, and he does service calls at homes and businesses, he is not always in the shop during stated business hours. Also, the shop is not open on Saturdays. Although it is sometimes difficult to get access to Steve, it is nevertheless worth the effort because of the quality of work coupled with very reasonable prices.

I knew better than to click on that or to call these fake Microsoft foreign crooks. Immediately I hard shut my computer down and proceeded to pray. I then reboot and get a red screen, then a blue screen. Proceed to reboot again and get nothing! I'm thinking I'm f..ed!! Quick google search on my cell for local computer repair pulls up PC Guyz about 3 miles away in the Roache Brothers plaza on Rt 138 on the Easton / Stoughton line. (There were quite a few nerds to pick from but what do I know except for recent reviews so I chose to go local and crossed my fingers.) On the way there I'm thinking about how I haven't backed up in 3 weeks. I have proposals halfway done. I have emails in draft that need to be sent. I'm thinking how much a new computer is gonna run me etc. As I stepped into the store Dan greeted me and we commenced to chat about what happened and what he would do. He is a thoughtful and friendly guy. Its a fairly small space with the counter and register on the left and a display case in front. In between there's a narrow opening to the rear. His workshop has a bank of computers and lots of plugs on the wall. There were a bunch of laptops on the counter. Obviously much can go wrong and eventually will. Someday you will need a shop and a nerd. I can jump the gun and tell you now come here to PCGuyz if its within your radius. Dan knows his stuff and suggested he run an HP diagnostic which would take 4.5 hrs as I had lots of crap to go through. He said not to worry lol. I called the next day and he was then running a C drive cleaner and said that my hard drive was OK NO VIRUS! Oh boy I'm stoked. When it was done I came in looked him in the eye and said whats the damage thinking has to be 100+. Dan said that in reality all I needed was a tune up and the charge was $50. I'm floored with the outcome, and the honest and affordable service. Much like getting your car fixed your at the mercy of the service man and you just have to hope they are honest. When you find one thats a keeper. I pay Dan and promise him this review. He says word of mouth is best but I say Yelp is the printed word of mouth and I'm glad to help him any way that I can.

I brought it to Best Buy and they quoted me a price close to what the laptop itself cost. I found Core Tech online, and brought it in. Not only did they repair my laptop at a fraction of the cost quoted by "Best Buy" (where I bought it), but also cleaned it up and installed apps to keep it running smoothly. They are extremely knowledgeable, nice, friendly, and the work was completed quickly (the day after the parts the parts came in). Three weeks later, I went to the store in person only to find a sign on the door stating they wouldn't be back until September. At that point, there had been no communication, no updates, and no way to reach anyone. It has now been four months. I still do not have my computer, no clear explanation of what's going on, and no way to get in touch. My kids have been asking about it, and it's incredibly frustrating to be left in the dark after paying upfront. This has been a very disappointing and stressful experience.

Their prices were lower than other places. They were efficient, knowlegable, affordable and pleasant to work with and I would recommend them 100%. The service I had them do was fix the HDMI port and clean the inside of the unit (which I didn't realize collected so much debris over the years) The unti is now working fabulously.
