I got my bridesmaid dress altered -- needed the length altered, the top loosened, the straps tightened, and bra hooks added inside the straps. They were thorough about the alterations needed and their service was fantastic. I went to them in the first week of August and they had the dress ready in three weeks, in time for the wedding. While the dress wasn't ready when I went in, they kindly delivered it home as I couldn't go back the next day. Regarding the price, they did charge me a higher amount than expected (I'm a graduate student on a limited salary), they were better priced than the other places I checked out. We had some couch cushions that had extreme sun damage. We had already been told they could not be repaired and the couch and loveseat needed to be reupholstered. The cost for this was twice what we paid for the furniture new! We went to Right Size and asked if they would consider trying to fix it. We did have 4 arm covers we had never used and said they could cut them up however they needed to. Amy and Elizabeth talked, felt they could repair it and gave us a very fair quote. We couldn't be happier with their work! Great service! I needed an urgent alteration for my pants and they were very understanding about mi situation and very helpful.

I came here to get two suits tailored. They are cash only, but have an ATM that charges 10 cents for the transaction, and they ask you to pay up front. The closest entrance after all the construction is probably the one to the left of Metcalfe's cafe and right of Fannie Mae. Hang a left and head down the stairs. Prices are fair, comparable to prices elsewhere around town, and the quality of work is also quite good. They can be short staffed and the room is a bit small, so expect to have to wait a few minutes while they help the customers before you. They are good at communicating prices, but I wish more attention was given to the fitting to help avoid having to come in multiple times. After I came to pick up the suits I took in, we found out the suit jackets had to get the necks/collars lifted to avoid the unflattering rippling that appeared between the shoulders after the first round of alterations. It was an extra $35 (though they gave me a $5 discount for having two suits done and getting previous alterations with them) and I wish they would have been able to work that out in the first fitting. Anyway, something to look for, if you have to get a suit taken in! The location and extended hours are really convenient for me and if you need an item fast, they will turn it around for you next day if it's possible. read more

This place always does a great job for me and the prices are very reasonable. I have to order pants in tall lengths as regular length is too short...but then they are just slightly too long! So I don't feel like spending a lot just to have them altered half an inch or an inch yet it really does make all the difference. The last pair of jeans he hemmed for me cost $8.95. I consider that a bargain for perfect length pants and I'm just not talented enough to hem them myself. I know their sign says 15 minute hems but they usually ask if I can come back the next day and I say yes because I don't mind. That said, I might ask about the 15 minute thing next time instead of going back. I imagine it's one of those things where you have to ask otherwise they aren't going to do it because (logistically) they can't do it for everyone. read more

Randy and his wife go above and beyond for customers. I've routinely seen them staying late to finish something for a customer. Randy is friendly, helpful, and most importantly, has a very good eye. Warning: they take cash., but as a testament to the type of person Randy and Right Size Alterations is: They have an ATM in the store but Randy pays the ATM company so that if you need cash from the ATM, the ATM only charges you $0.10 instead of the usual $2 or $3 fee! Bf went to have some jeans altered. There is a sign that said jeans hem done in as 15 minutes, but we had never had that. It was always a couple days wait. Not sure if you have to ask them about the same day service to get it. But we were never in that much of a hurry that we need them immediately anyway so it is fine. I haven't sent any works that are more elaborate or complicated that needed tailoring so I couldn't comment on that. I am currently trying out Express Alterations with some tweaks to a couple of dresses. Will work on that review when I get them back over the weekend. I have used Right Size Alterations several times for hemming of dress pants. I have always been very happy. I also used them to modify a craigslist prom dress I had purchased for a cinderella photo shoot. I couldn't zip the dress up and they modified the back to have a corset lace up. $70 I thought was fair considering the work and having to add material to it. They did it in 2 days and everyone thought it looked really good. I'm heading back today to get my mother of the groom outfit hemmed. I'm a repeat customer! read more

Hard to find storefront, service without a smile, and surprisingly high prices. Went to get a dress altered and they charged me $95 because it was a "complicated" dress. Yeah, I guess there were three layers that had to be taken up and the sides had to be taken in so maybe that's justified, HOWEVER they also said it would take three weeks. The day it was supposed to be ready I showed up around lunchtime to pick it up and saw it hanging up in the workroom. THEY HADN'T EVEN STARTED WORKING ON IT. There was some stone faced apologizing and I was told to come back at 5 pm. It was ready at 5 and the work, I have to admit, was fine. The dress held up and fits well. Saved the place from getting one star. On the other hand, if I pay almost the cost of the dress in just alteration fees, I expect it to be ready on-time. They also only take cash or check. There's an ATM in the store. Just FYI, especially since the price is likely going to be higher than you think it should be. Will not be going back for any further alterations. read more

I really want to like this place and have used them for pants and dresses in the past but turnaround time is awful, especially with more complicated items. The owners had to deliver a dress to my place once because they just couldn't get the job done at the scheduled time. If you need something by a given day, give them at least 2-3 additional days to hedge your bets that it will get done on time. Also, on a bridesmaids dress they over shot the mark and one side was .5" shorter than the other. Opted to keep the dress uneven (boo) because a ruffle created enough of an optical illusion that it was even. read more

Everyone that works there is very sweet and accommodating (especially Sue!), they have extremely convenient hours, good prices, and the end product is consistently excellent. I started going here after my Dad recommended it--his go-to place for hemming, button replacement, etc. I have had nothing but good experiences. The staff is knowledgeable and gives good advice, while still listening to you and honoring the vision of what you want done. It's convenient, too. They don't do appointments, you just drop by. They can usually see you right away, and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes. They revamped a vintage coat for me--taking in the waist, removing the shoulder pads, and sewing on loose buttons. Great result. The biggest alteration was my wedding dress. They added straps in a style modeled after a dress in a picture I brought in (they gave me good advice for purchasing fabric for this), took in the sides, and took off some length. When I picked up the dress, it was perfect. Then I lost weight, so I brought it back for further alterations--which they discounted since this was the second time around. When I lost even more weight, they took it in a little more, free of charge. Where else do you get customer service like that? The dress turned out so great, exactly what I wanted. Just picked up my daughters prom dress this afternoon and was very pleased. They did a beautiful job shortening her dress which was two layers, one of which was a chiffon type material and I'm sure was difficult to work with but was perfectly hemmed. Length was what we had pinned on our first visit. Very timely turn around as well. Took it in and got it back in a week. The gentleman, as well as the young women who pinned my daughters dress were very welcoming and so pleasant. I had read about the cash only policy on previous reviews so I knew to bring it along. This is a great place for basic alterations and repair. I've had them do anything from hemming jeans to repairing a zipper on a sundress, and everything was done very well - and very quickly. The prices are good too - it was $8 for the jean hem and only a bit more for the zipper repair. Highly recommended. Brought my Tux in for alterations and I was very impressed by how quickly everyone was ready to help. The owner even offered to alter the Tux multiple ways in order to save me some money if I wanted. I really wanted the Tux fitting perfectly, and despite my short time frame, he was able to accommodate. He was very concerned that it would fit right and so asked me to come in to try it on after he altered it so he could make more alterations. In the end, I was very impressed by the service and quality of work. To get everything perfect, it was not cheap, but I needed a lot of alterations to get the tux fitting the way I wanted it. I had a great experience here. Everyone was really nice, especially since I had sort of a tough order. I came into Madison for my sister's wedding and hadn't tried on my bridesmaids dress again until the day before. Unfortunately the dress was really loose around the bust, so naturally I freaked out. I looked up tailors around the area that did same day alterations and this one had great reviews so I decided to take my chances with Right Size. I am incredibly happy that I did. I got into the store around 10:30 and asked if they could get it done by the end of the day or even first thing the next morning so my boyfriend could go pick it up. They told me it would be tough since they had a really busy day ahead of them. And on top of that, the job was a little more difficult to take in since there was a bit of boning in the bust. Totally understandable. However they told me they could have it done that night and they'd call me when it's finished. They gave me a call around 6 pm to tell me they had it finished and ready to be picked up!! Obviously I was overjoyed. I went to pick it up and it fit like a glove. I HIGHLY recommend this place.
