She charged a small fraction of what it would've cost to purchase a similar dress in the correct size. On the other hand, I brought a suit jacket to Lana, hoping it could be tailored down a size, too, and she explained that, given the alterations necessary, I would be better served spending my money on a replacement jacket. When you ask a professional to perform a service for you that's outside your wheelhouse, you don't necessarily know whether what you're requesting is actually a good idea. Lana has the integrity to tell you when you shouldn't pay her to do something you think you want. Satisfied with every job I'd taken to her and with her honesty in recommending against a job I was willing to pay for, I felt I could trust Lana with any request. I wished so badly that I took a before picture because the finished product looks flawless. It has a tiny seam, but that's about it. Let's back up a step. I ride horses, hunter/jumper to be specific. I wear breeches. This particular one I really liked - my Tredstep Symphony No. 3's. I know this means nothing to most of you, but put simply, they're a $120 pair of pants. One day, as I was dismounting, my belt got stuck in the stirrup, and when my feet hit the ground, I heard a large rip. Sad day for my pants. I will upload an after picture, but Top Tailoring did an awesome job fixing up the tear. I will pay $15 any day because these breeches look good as new and I was not about to pay another $120. They take credit cards now, thanks to Square! I came here to get a strapless bridesmaid dress taken in (~$35). I don't love strapless dresses, but Top Tailoring made me love this one. The quality of the work was very meticulous, and the end result fit really well. If you struggle with strapless dresses like I do, I recommend seeking out their services. When I bought the dress, it came with some unflattering rumpling at the bust, which I asked if she could fix. She suggested adding cups between the lining and the shell, which totally did the trick. It looked like I bought the dress like this, and I was really pleased with how it turned out. It wasn't communicated at the time that this would be an extra cost on top of taking in the bust, but I assumed that it would be. I guess this shows how much I trust Yelp reviews -- I didn't bother to ask and just paid the reasonable total given the quality of the work. There might be a little bit of waiting (~15 minutes tops) if you drop in for a fitting on Saturday before noon. Other customers were there to get a suit fitted (man) and a horse riding uniform tailored (kid with siblings and mom). Based upon the positive yelp reviews, I was hopeful that it could be fixed here, and I expected to drop off the sweater then maybe pick it up in a few days. I had bought my wedding dress off the rack, and it was a touch too small, ie I could zip it up, but it was uncomfortable. I brought it to an alterations shop to have it let out a bit. The seamstress had it for five months, let it out twice, and when I got it back, it zipped up easier, but it was still tight. I asked if it could be let out anymore, and the seamstress said there was nothing she could do... I knew I wouldn't be able to move the way I wanted to or breathe the way I wanted to, for that matter. I wasn't ok with leaving the dress as it was, so after I got it back from the first seamstress, I brought it to Top Tailoring. It was only a week and a half before the wedding, but Lana took a look at it and said that she could alter it for me. She had it back to me in one week and it fit like a dream. I was able to dance and move; the dress was comfortable; and, personally, I thought I looked smokin'. I would HIGHLY recommend Top Tailoring to any bride or bridal party member looking for alterations. I've had several good experiences but I recently had a very expensive suit tailored here. After wearing it twice I have a sleeve cuff with sewing that came undone and a pant leg seem undone. I only wore this suit twice. I also will give one less star because the turn around time can be several weeks or more. I agree with previous ratings being lower for 2+ weeks for a suit or other relatively small order. However, the majority of my experiences were positive. I think 3/5 is fair. I also don't believe in 5/5 when things simply just meet expectations. read more

No, no, no. I brought in a leather jacket for sleeve alterations, after SEVERAL WEEKS beyond the date in which she told me it would be done I finally got my jacket back without an apology from her. I am a seamstress myself (but do not have a machine for leather) so I know she did a shotty job - not removing the lining before taking in the leather - very disappointing for the ~$75 price. Fantastic! I bought a very oversized suit from Jos a Bank and brought it in. I wasn't sure if she would be able to alter something that much but she exceeded my expectations! The stitching was of high quality and exceeded my expectations, except the pants were a little big in the waist. She said she could fix it immediately. I went to get a dress altered and I walked in and was "welcomed" in a very standoffish way that wasn't quite welcoming at all. I was told to put my dress on and she would take a look at it. Once the dress was on, I was told the dress was too small for me and is made for someone smaller than my size, and there was no way she could alter it. I felt absolutely terrible about myself in that moment and was not given an opinion in a professional manner. She then proceeded to walk away with no other discussion. My mother needed to get an outfit tailored (just hems) overnight for a funeral. She promised to have the work done by midday the following day. We never received a call to say it was ready and received no callbacks from several calls we left on her business voice-mail. When I showed up to pick it up 4 hours after it had been promised, the work had been done but I received no explanation as to why we weren't contacted. That said the work was indeed excellent and my mother was happy with it.
