Prepared for my son"s wedding and we had multiple issues with the tuxedos. Younger son went to Monetti for measurements and when the tux came, the shirt was too large and suit was too small. My measurements were provided to them and done by a professional. Recommended suit size provided was 44xl. Since we are from out of town, we arrived late on Wednesday for the Friday wedding. My son had picked up the tuxedos and provided them to us on Thursday morning, the suit did not fit and was a 43long. I immediately called as my younger son had earlier. We were both told it would be an extra $30 each for overnight. Since when do you charge the customer when you make the mistake. When we talked he was very adamant that the extra charge was going to happen even though the suit size was wrong. How can I argue when the wedding was the next day. We received the replacements Friday morning so the wedding went well, but I would not recommend due to the lack of customer centered approach to service. Yes we paid the extra $60 read more

I was absolutely blown away by Mario's skills and talent when it came to handling my wedding dress! I came to Monetti based on a recommendation and I am so glad I did as Mario and his team were fantastic. Mario is very knowledgeable and walked me through each change he recommended making on my dress and why. I was worried that another tailor's recommendations were going to ruin my dress as the amount of lace detailing on the dress was significant. After Mario and I walked through the necessary adjustments, Mario did his work by hand and it looked amazing! I couldn't even tell he had taken the dress apart other than the fact the dress felt like it finally fit correctly. Mario is a good person who is fairly pleasant. The bad news is that I had a lot of trouble with him. I worked in corporate America when everyone wore a suit. I own three completely hand tailored suits from Tom James that were $2000 each. So, I know how a suit is supposed to look. I wanted Mario to do alterations on the inseam and waist of brand new expensive suits. Good job. To have that finished look the sleeves should also be fixed. Total failure!! I gave him chance after chance and he never got it right. My arms are different lengths (broken left collarbone. left arm hangs longer) and he would always alter both sleeves the same length. One side would have 1.5 to 2.0 inches more than the other showing.I told him time after time, and always had the same problem. To make matters worse it would take more than a month for him to get the suits ready and I would end up having to take them back and wait another month. If you need something simple and can wait a long time, he would be OK but if you want anything beyond that think twice. John T. read more

1 graduation dress, 3 week tailoring timeline, 3 tasks asked: 1. shorten the simple straps 2. make the shoulder bows permanent 3. add bra clips underneath the straps. This all cost over 100... and 2/3 of the tasks were not completed until I went to pick it up. As a college student, I can't help but feel a bit taken advantage of. Any older, more experienced with tailoring person I've talked to said I paid twice as much as this should have costed. Can't help but leave with a sour taste in my mouth. I bought a beaver coat at a resale shop. One of the original clips broke over Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm leaving town on Tuesday for 3 weeks in a colder climate. I need that coat! I contacted Monetti Tailoring at the recommendation of another tailor in Madison who was too busy. Despite the business being closed on Mondays, I was told the staff could help me if I stopped in at 9:00 Monday. I arrived a little early, and, even though the door was locked, Gregoria Cacahua answered the door and let me in. No one had told her to expect me, yet she let me in, looked at the coat, recommended a different closure, and told me it would be ready to pick up after 2:00. Wow! I came back later afternoon, Gregoria opened the door once again, got my coat, and showed me their work -- which was great! Highly recommend this business and Gregoria specifically. Went for a bridesmaid dress alteration. I needed my dress taken out and shortened. I went in for the alteration sizing and they said okay we can do it by taking it out at the zipper. I wait 1 month (that's how long the wait was) and come to try it on and the dress was barely (if at all) altered around the bust. The dress no longer fits by stepping into it and instead have to put it on over my head and still doesn't zip up. When they looked at it they said oh - we thought this might be an issue and we're actually going to need to take it out at the sides. Then said it will cost be an extra $60. After I had already paid $140 for the prior alterations that didn't work. I don't understand why if you expected an issue with the alteration you wouldn't call the customer upfront to notify them. I used Monetti Tailoring for my wedding dress alterations and they not only did an incredible job but were extremely accommodating after I had to delay my wedding due to COVID-19. Their rates are reasonable, they take their time, and their hours are great. Mario also took a video while he showed me how to bustle my dress so that I could show my attendants and offered to FaceTime for another lesson if I needed it. I am not one to write bad reviews for local businesses, but hopefully this review can save one bride the heartache and anxiety I experienced by going to Monetti's for my wedding dress alterations. To start, I was initially very trusting of Monetti's, as it was recommended as one of a handful of places in the south-central Wisconsin area by my wedding dress shop, and I had heard of good experiences from friends who had gotten hems and other alterations (though, not wedding dresses) done with Monetti's. I had bought a dress thinking that only a few minor alterations would be required, but after my first appointment with them, they quoted me a price of over $700 for alterations and said that they would need to completely reconstruct the dress. Being unfamiliar with the alteration process and trying to respect Mario's craftsmanship and expertise, I agreed on the quoted price. A few appointments later, I tried on my dress and could not lift my arms even above my shoulders due to the arm holes being too tight (they were just cap sleeves, not full sleeves or over the shoulder). It would have been impossible for me to even HUG anyone on my wedding day--a total deal breaker. I expressed my concerns to Mario, and he got very upset and frustrated, and blamed me for not saying that I wanted enough room in my dress to move/dance/hug. He suggested that I could take my wedding dress with me that day (unfinished and still in pieces!) if I was unhappy--totally unprofessional and I felt backed into a corner. It was only a month or so until my wedding and I was not going to risk going to another tailor. So, he tried to charge me an additional $200 for the additional work--after much debating, we settled on a $100 upcharge. From then on, of course, it was difficult to trust that I was going to have a beautiful dress on my wedding day and I dreaded every appointment. I really felt that Mario had stepped out of line and taken advantage of the vulnerable position I was in as a bride. Over the course of my over 10 (TEN!) appointments with Mario, I walked out of the shop with a scuffed up dress that had dirt marks all over it and that they would not take responsibility for. They blamed the dirty marks on me walking across the floor during the alteration process, but it seemed as if they had not treated my dress with care after we had the argument about the sleeve alterations. Mario suggested taking my dress to a cleaners before my wedding day, but, the woman he recommended would not do it. AGAIN, Mario gave me a dirty dress and basically left me high and dry two weeks before my wedding and I felt the dress I walked out with was worse than I had when I walked in! Thankfully, I contacted my dress shop and they were able to help me get my dress cleaned up (Mary Jo Townsend of Premiere Couture in Cambridge, WI--she's amazing!!). Please, if you're a bride who wants to keep things simple and feel confident, beautiful, and empowered on your wedding day, *don't* go to Monetti's. read more

Great shop, really nice people and they go above and beyond for their customers. I went to Monetti tailoring to get some alterations to a bridesmaid dress. The first time I went, I wore 3 inch heels and they hemmed the dress to work with those shoes. Unfortunately I changed my shoe choice for the night to a different pair - two inch heels. I knew I'd have to have them rehem the dress and was willing to pay them the same price to redo it (I did feel bad for changing my shoes after they did all that work!) When I went to pick up my dress, the owner tried to adjust the hem while I was there to try to avoid me having to pay for a redo. In the end it did need more work than what he could do in the moment, so I did pay for a redo, but he gave me a $20 discount on that redo and thanked me for being honest about it. When I went back in to pick it up, the owner wrote gave me store credit for $40, the price I paid for the redo, saying he just appreciated the honesty and didn't want me to have to lose money on the redo. This was such a nice experience and I'd go back in an instant! The dress turned out great and their work was high quality. read more

Mario and crew are so close to receiving 5 *'s from this Yelper. So close! I had a gala for Olbrich Gardens on Saturday, and put off taking my suit somewhere to be tailored all month. After consulting my Facebook hive mind, a Madison colleague came through...and recommended Mario at Monetti. This person wears a suit like its nobody's business. So I DARE not take such revered advice! I ended visiting on the Wednesday before my event...oops! This was not a problem for Mario. "You need your suit, so we will make it work!" was his response. Jaw-dropping!! Mario welcomed me with energy. And I really appreciated this. As I tried on my pants and jacket/coat, he kept referring that 'this is your suit', so you need to make decisions', and 'you need to like the suit you wear' and 'look good in it so you feel good'. His staff is so nice and personable too. Here's where that last start drops off. I called in the Friday before the event, and he mistakenly thought I didn't need my suit until a week later. Yikes! I'm not sure if he just read or wrote my order receipt out incorrectly, but I had to kindly re-confirm that I requested the suit be completed by the next day and that he confirmed it would be done. Mario insist I come in the next day to check on the pants fit, mark the hem, and ensure everything is exactly as I need. Crisis hopefully averted... Here it is, the big day! I stopped in with a friend early in the morning, and there was a line of 3 other people ahead of me. No big deal. I had a nice coffee to enjoy, so I just sat and read up on some NPR. Mario recognized me very quickly and brought me my pants to try on and mark a hem (he was initially severely slimming the pants and could not hem them until that was complete), and told me to come back by 1PM and everything would be all set. I came back at 1, and it was! Fantastic! I tried my jacket and pants on, and felt so finessed in my suit! Mario even steamed out my pants upon request, so I wouldn't need to iron them myself. At my work event, I felt great all night and it was a big thanks to the way I felt in my newly tailored, better fitted suit. Especially the pants! Overall, my rush order, severe tailoring needs costed just over $150.00, but it was worth it. This probably bought me another 2.5 years of wear on these pants and jacket before I consider going with more of a fitted, personally designed suit. I would hit up Monetti Tailoring again and will be recommending at every opportunity! read more

Don't recommend. Took new suit size 46L tailored fit for slight alteration (to more athletic) & append buttons. Owner, Mario not in that day. Suit was measured, marked, and to hem pants by staff. Pick up suit, Mario was not there, but suit jacket was so drastically altered to the point, it looked like a fitted shirt - like a dorito. Schedule time to take suit back & meet w/ owner - Mario. He agreed to attempt let out sides one inch and correct collar roll behind the neck at no additional charge (this after paying $160), & return for pick up. Next pick up & recheck fitting, left front button stance too high, chest break with gap and shoulder bite. Buttons were sewed on with one thread length. Very little effort was made to correct & $795 suit ruined. Mario attempted to sell a bespoke made to measure suit from Monetti Tailoring as only correction. No apologies for wreckage and only excuses, as if it is not possible to tailor a suit. What is name of this business...? Tailoring? read more

They are definitely the go-to tailor for my needs in Madison. I have to wear a suit every day for work, so I use them a lot to fix rips in the stitching that come from normal wear and tear. I had previously gone to another tailor to do this, and their repair work barely lasted 2 months! At Monetti, they do a great job and their work really lasts. I have taken multiple suits there to be tailored and they are always spot on with their measurements, unlike my last place. They are always friendly and willing to help, even doing some very basic fixes for free, which they certainly don't have to do. I would highly recommend Monetti to anyone needing these services. Don't understand the irate review below with regard to rush service. I had to use it a couple times, and they always were above-board and charged me a price that surprised me for how low it was. Quality-wise, it's actually the best tailor I've visited, too. When I turned 30, I realized I'd have to exercise and eat responsibly if I didn't want to gain large amounts of weight. As I result, I now have a 29/30 waist, which makes a lot of even small size suits a poor fit for me. (One friend of mine joked that I should just get a 13-year-old bah mitzvah suit, haha!!) So there is a lot of hemming and adjusting required, and they do it really well. read more

Mario is a magician. Four days before my wedding and after my fifth(!) fitting with my seamstress, it became clear that she couldn't figure out how to alter my dress to fit me correctly. I actually left her shop and went to buy a backup dress at Premiere Couture in Cambridge. They sold me a backup dress and recommended Mario. I called him from the shop, explained the situation and he had me come right to his shop with both the original dress and the backup dress. After trying on both dresses, he said he could fix the original dress and had me come back the next day. The Thursday and Friday before my wedding (literally 48 hours before walking down the aisle) Mario spent more than 8 hours with me making sure the dress was perfect. It turned out that the original tailor hadn't cut any of the fabric as she'd taken in it, but none of her work could be saved. He deconstructed and reconstructed the bodice of the dress in about three hours so that it fit me like a glove. This included removing all the lace and reattaching it by hand. Mario's prices are slightly higher than some other tailors, but you get what you pay for. My dress ended up looking like it had been made for me. I'll never go to another tailor again! read more

I bought the suit I'd be wearing at my wedding, took it to an incredibly highly rated tailor in Los Angeles, and discovered that he had trimmed about 2 inches too many off the ankles and made a handful of other ill-placed cuts. In short, I was going to have to wear exaggerated capri pants. Getting married in Spring Green, WI, I arrived in town with 2 days to spare, and the folks at Monetti worked with limited fabric to salvage my suit and masterfully repair the damage caused in Los Angeles. They were excellent in craftsmanship, amiable in customer interaction, and incredibly fast at what they do. I cannot thank them enough, and should have written this review months ago! I have been a customer on Monetti's for just over a year now and I use them for all my tailoring needs in Madison. Over the last year I have lost a significant amount of weight which is great in almost all ways except for giving up my favorite clothes that no longer fit. Mario has worked with me to get over a dozen shirts fitting again and I have had a great experience. At first, I went to several different places in Madison. Some were faster and cheaper. It was very easy to see the difference in quality and service between Monetti's and their competitors. I've had several shirts from both Monetti and other locations not fit perfectly after they've been altered. I took them back to all places and only Mario (Monetti's owner) agreed that the shirt wasn't what it should be. He took the shirt back and said it would be fixed by the next day. Other tailors said it "looked fine" and didn't think it could be better. The other difference I noticed was the stitching in the seams laid flatter and looked better re-enforced with Monetti's. We often used to send people to Monetti but our customers have had three really bad experiences. First customer was charged $150 for next day service when they were initially quoted about $40. Out second customer received such bad work the suit pants were not wearable nor were we able to fix the mistake. The third customer was told they would need to spend over $300 dollars for alterations, the things they said the suit needed are procedures that don't exist. Mario did an outstanding job on lengething the sleeves of a Cordura motorcycle jacket over 2 inches. I brought the jacket to 3 other people and they didn't want to try. I've gone to Monetti's for alterations to a formal gown and jeans. Both were pretty "meh" experiences. The jeans were fine, but because I chose to have the original hem sewn back on, they constantly flip up. The dress was a little bit more problematic. I was pregnant at the time so I bought a larger dress, which had to be taken up and in in the bodice. They did that just fine, but somehow managed to shrink the armholes (I couldn't really bring my arms down). They fixed the problem, but charged me for the fix. Monetti's is the equivalent of a fairy godmother waving a wand over your wardrobe & making it everything you dreamed of. It's true... a great tailor can be your closet's best friend. While they are a bit on the pricey side, the quality is well worth it. I'm petite but not short enough to qualify for the actual "petite" section. They have been able to transform alot of clothes I would have otherwise passed over thinking "gorgeous but too long/short/waist is too big/etc." Do yourself a favor... hit the sales racks, scoop up some serious deals that need tweaking & have them work their magic. I had a problem with the zipper on my jacket being stuck and by calling, I was able to bring it in right away to be evaluated. Everyone was so nice and generous, and my jacket problem was fixed in no time! The owner that helped me was so nice, and showed me how to properly handle the zipper next time something like this happened. I spent a fair bit of time looking for a tailor in Madison, and good reviews here and elsewhere led me to Mario. I brought in three pairs of jeans, two of which needed a waist alteration and the third needing a waist alteration and a tapering. I asked if I could have the tailoring job done 6 days later, and Mario was happy to help. I picked up the jeans today, and all three pairs fit exactly as I'd like them to.
