My needs were well received and they were very friendly as they catered to all my odd adjustments and trying the garment on and off so they could get the fit exactly right. Even though they were tearing at the seams with business, they offered to have it ready by Thursday! With taking in a lot lengths, a few alteration work, fixing straps, and seams, my grand total came to be about only $40. AND they have great hours! Open until 8pm during the week days! No one has hours as convenient as this. They are also open on Saturdays. Great prices, awesome location close to home for me (they are in the same strip mall as Maharaja Restaurant and located next to Ceicil's)!

I had a very disappointing experience at Express Alterations. The owner was extremely rude and…read moreunprofessional throughout the interaction. What bothered me most was the inconsistency in how customers were treated. I was told that I had to pay the full amount upfront before any work would be done, but while I was there, another customer was told she could pay when she picked up her clothes. The pricing also seemed arbitrary, and I was given the impression that prices were being made up as they went along rather than following a clear, consistent policy. Being treated differently from other customers and spoken to disrespectfully left a very bad impression. Customer service should be fair and consistent for everyone. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here, and I would not recommend this business.

She also charged me for a double hem since my dress was lined however, she never hemmed the lining of my dress but charged me for it. She offered to do it again but there was absolutely no way I was going to risk it. I also took it back to show the lady...all of a sudden she couldn't understand me, gas lighted me accusing me of bringing in a different dress (not the original) and told me she didn't do this work! She is awful! Workmanship is unacceptable and I had to have it re-hemmed elsewhere. AVOID Binh's tailoring! Please don't make the same mistake I made. I'm now hearing more and more people who have had similar experiences with Binh's. How they are still in business I have no idea. And her cash only policy is not forthcoming or honest. I will never ever go back.

The staff is VERY knowledgeable and Lynn is in there herself most days. I initially went in for some Daniel Smith watercolors, that I would have had to order online ( for much more than she was selling in her store ). Upon entering the store, I was AMAZED by the selection of papers, canvas, paints, etc this store had. No wasted space at all! They even had a room in the back for art classes, which I thought was just wonderful. Their prices are VERY competitive. I do a lot of shopping around, being the art supply hoarder that I am, and I would HIGHLY recommend this store for your next art project. Best of all you are supporting a LOCAL business! OK, I'm done using all caps now, I promise. The next time you are on the West Side check out Lynn's on Odana. You won't be sorry that you did!!!

A few years…read moreago, we tried The Shop when we needed a small run of crew neck sweatshirts, beer coozies, 2 t shirts, and a couple of other items for a show only a couple of days later in their area. Turn around time was fast and Bryan brought us the boxes of merch personally and we had a blast hanging out. Over the years we've had a number of items that have stuck around for way too long at our table (since 2008, small shirts went from being the only size kids bought to the lowest selling size besides the xx sizes so we have a few shirts that are like, I dunno, 4 years old?), so we have a number of items that have been printed by various "big guy" shops. Anyway, we got a chance to compare the screen printing up close on them and The Shops prints were all consistently far cleaner and more opaque. The edges were all clean and none of them were chopping off. The prints were all centered, too, which is apparently a 1 out of 5 shot with most other companies. I called my manager that night and told him we wanted all of our tour stock printed by these guys. Since, we have printed all of our merch through them for over 10 tours and we haven't had a single complaint from my band. They're cheaper, faster on turn around, they let us know the moment there's a problem with one of our orders, and they don't swap brands on us without notification. I don't mean to speak poorly for anyone else's business, many of the other printing companies we work with deal with staggering amounts of business and are known to be incredibly hardworking. The downside is that I've often felt as if I've been way too low of a priority to get orders right when they require some form of detail. You ask for athletic gray and you get a solid color, you ask for one size in a female cut and 4 others in male cut only to find a box full of 5 different female cuts, you ask for alternative apparel and you get Gildan. Some companies just have far too much volume to put out and need to get the order done. Bryan and Cory are both endearing, hard working guys and they have a genuine passion for getting the prints right. They have contacted me on a number of occasions asking for ANY criticism so they can make sure their quality checks are in order. They're also great people. I forward any artists to them when they ask us where we get our merch.

Worst service…read moreever, with extremely rude personnel and an overall lack of respect for their customers' time and money. I took a winter coat there 7 months ago for repair. A very pleasant lady showed us how it would be fixed and said it would be a couple of months before the repair would be complete. I checked in after 3 months and was told by them that they were behind and would get it to me soon. That wasn't a problem with me because it's a winter coat and it was spring at the time I called to check on it. I checked in a couple of months later-- it's now May--and was told that it wasn't even started. I was also told they were working on things in the order in which they were received. I know they are busy and a small business, but all I received were a lot of excuses for not finishing the job they handedly took. Because of this, I asked if they could give us a more concrete timeline of when the coat would be repaired, since we had been waiting since January now. They proceeded to tell me that they would talk to the woman who does these kinds of repairs and get back to me with an update. After one month of receiving NO contact from them, I decided to stop in to see what was going on. However, I was greeted with more excuses for why the coat was not repaired: they are busy, working on getting people's sandals done, a small business, etc. As someone who has been going to Cecil's for 30+ years, I was disappointed to receive excuses rather than solutions for my coat repair. Nevertheless, I wanted to remain hopeful it would get done, despite the fact that I certainly was not happy with how they had handled the situation thus far. We stopped in 10 days ago after once again receiving NO contact from Cecil's regarding my coat repair, and that's when I really began to see their decline in real-time. We were greeted with familiar news that the coat repair had not been started, along with the usual excuses regarding their status as a small business and how busy they were. I respectfully pushed them to get working on my coat, since they had had the coat for nearly 7 months now. However, I was told that the woman who does these kinds of repairs was on vacation and would be back on Wednesday. They specifically told me that she would reach out and give me a more concrete timeline for when the coat would be repaired. So, I waited until the end of the week, and unsurprisingly, I heard nothing. I called back today to try and understand why they couldn't get my coat repaired in a timely fashion, and yet again, the woman I spoke with provided many, many excuses for why it wasn't done: the woman doing these kinds of repairs was out on a family emergency, they needed to get sandals done first (I guess first in, first out doesn't apply or at least not consistently), they aren't doing coats anymore, and the usual small business one. In addition, she noted that everyone working there has been continuing this work at low pay. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the woman I am speaking with begins roaring in laughter and a moment later says, "oh I just saw something really adorable." At this point, I realized the coat would never get done; I guess the customer she was talking to wasn't important enough to listen to. She proceeded to ask me what I wanted from her, and I simply asked why they would do this (referring to how they strung us along and didn't honor their commitment) and was accused of being an angry customer-I never raised my voice or used a cross tone. Even though I had every right to be an angry customer, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt as much as I could. However, she continued to make excuses by blaming this entire predicament on their status as a small business. Apparently, she claims, they tend to take in more than they can actually fix, and that their underperformance was a part of their status as a "small business." I know plenty of small businesses that do NOT share this same attitude and therefore don't find that claim excusable in the slightest. However, what really irked me about this entire situation was that there was NO apologies given for this terrible experience, as well as NO accountability for their actions; just excuses. I picked up the coat today and took it to Monroe Street Shoe Repair - exceptional service, friendly, helpful and organized. If you have a repair, I highly recommend you go there instead. It's truly sad to see what Cecil's has become, and their inability to take care of their customers. I don't see them recovering from this in the long-term, so save yourself the time and refrain from utilizing Cecil's.
