I hardly know how to praise Jen highly enough! I spent a couple of days reading articles and watching YouTube videos about hand wheels not turning. Nothing helped. I emailed The Electric Needle and described my issue and asked whether she thought a tune-up could solve the problem. Less than an hour later, I got an email asking whether I might possibly be in bobbin-winding mode. YES! Within 60 seconds, I had flipped that switch and was threading my machine, whistling a happy tune and thanking my lucky stars that I had thought to email The Electric Needle. I have loved the quality of the sewing machine repair at the Electric Needle for a long time and even brought my machines back here after I moved to the East Coast. Recently, they showed how great they are at customer service. I was working on a quilt with a deadline for completion, but had to be in Madison for a family emergency. The staff set me up on a sewing machine so I could finish my quilting and got my deadline. I called the store because I thought this was an embroidery store rather than a sewing/embroidery store for supplies. The woman on the phone was so kind and recommended me to a woman who could do the embroidery job I was looking for. We then just dropped off the clothing at the store and LeAnn and Ali took care of the rest! Such great customer service and done super fast. Sorry to be the nay-sayer in the group, but my experience was poor, bordering on bizarre. My 1950's Singer Featherweight needed servicing and I checked in advance that they'd be able to work on it and that they could get a replacement for the screw missing from my bobbin case. After I'd dropped the machine off, they determined that the missing $10 set-screw I needed was unavailable, and gave me the choice of nothing or a brand new $74 bobbin case. So OK, this is an old machine and stuff wears out; I said yes to the new case. When the machine was "ready" I asked to give it a spin in the shop before taking it home to Janesville. The bobbin tension was wrong making the stitching uneven, and it couldn't be made OK by adjusting the upper tension, so I asked for a screwdriver and made the bobbin adjustment myself. All the while, the clerk hovered and told me the tech had sewn on it for half an hour with no problems, it's a simple machine that only goes forward and backwards (to which I responded that, when properly adjusted, it does so IMPECCABLY), and then she asked whether I needed help threading it (I'd told her moments before that I'd been sewing on a Featherweight for 60 years so, no, probably OK on the threading thing . . . ). Anyway, I also told her that I had another Featherweight in the car and, assuming I liked the servicing they'd done on the one I was picking up, I'd be dropping off so i t could be serviced. As I paid and left the shop she never asked whether I was satisfied with the servicing they had done on the first machine, or whether I was going to drop off the second. It would have been an easy answer. read more

My kids has been going to Electric Needle for the last year shortly after we moved to Madison. They have been taking the kids can sew class and love it. My daughter that has been going the most has really learned a lot and is progressing into more challenging projects. I was so impressed with the Electric Needle. They fixed my Husqvarna machine FAST. I had checked with other shops in the area and they advised it would take weeks just to get it in, not to mention how long it would take to fix. I have a BabyLock sewing machine that has been broken for a few years and am just getting around to getting it fixed. I found The Electric Needle on Google, after calling another place that made me make an appointment for 3 months from now! Electric Needle's website said I didn't need an appointment, and that was no lie! I walked in, showed Jen the problem, and she got to fixing it right away. She was done in about 15 minutes, gave me some advice on my sewing project, and did not even charge me anything! I will definitely be bringing them some return business. read more

Wow! The Electric Needle was recommended to me by several friends, after I never heard back from the long-time sewing machine store/repair service in town. They looked at it right there, but couldn't replicate the problem. They corrected the bobbin tension, lubricated the bobbin case and said I could take it home, or they would keep it and take it apart and clean/lubricate the rest. I took it in on a Saturday, it was done on Wednesday, and that machine has NEVER been so quiet or run so well. I cannot WAIT to start a new project. Sewing will be fun now, not a chore! read more

The manager has excellent skills for analyzing the specific problem, fixing it on the spot, and explaining what I need to do in order to maintain my machine in the future. I purchased my machine in the early '70's, and this is by far the best repair I have had done anywhere. read more

I contacted the store to see if they would be able to do alternations, as I needed someone to fix a hole in a pair of jeans. The woman seemed nice and knowledgable, and we discussed how I wanted the hole repaired (ie, so it wasn't a super obvious patch on the outside, but rather using the machine that can restich denim, and then to reinforce it on the inside with a patch). She seemed confident, so I trusted it to her. We got them back, and it's absolutely awful--a giant patch of different colored fabric on the outside. It was not at all what we requested. I'm incredibly unhappy, as now the jeans are ruined and now I can't take them elsewhere to be fixed, since her "fix" damaged them more. read more

Great service. Great price. I came in, sat down at the table, and they fixed my machine on the spot while answering my many questions. They solved my problem and one I didn't know I had. I needed a replacement part installed, and they kept the price low for the piece low. I wasn't charged for labor for either problem. The other two customers there (being served simultaneously) had their problems fixed at no charge. Impressive. I have two slightly older machines that I'm now going to take in. While I was there, I noticed that the accessories, machines, notions, etc. that they carry were at lower prices than the neighborhood big box sewing stores. My sewing machine was in need of a little TLC. I wasn't sure what was wrong, but the thread was really loose on the bottom and really pulling on the top of the fabric. I tried to adjust the tension and when that didn't work, I packed it up and bought another machine. After all, it was during the Christmas holiday season and I couldn't be without my machine. (I assumed that I would have to leave it at the repair shop to be fixed.) I finally got around to taking it in today. I picked The Electric Needle because I saw that the shop was locally owned and had great reviews. The reviews were very accurate. Jen came right out, plugged it in and went to work on it. Mine is a unique story in that I've never been to The Electric Needle. I live out of state and looked on-line for a repair shop for a friend who lives nearby and had a sewing machine in need of repair. After reading the reviews I called the shop and told them my story that I wanted to have my friend's machine serviced and repaired. They were wonderful! Had my friend drop off her machine and they repaired and serviced it in 2 business days! They allowed me to pay with a credit card and also allowed me to gift my friend with a gift certificate so she could spend a little money for notions or fabric or whatever she wants. I'm so grateful to Jen and Mary (2 ladies I dealt with on the phone) who were so kind and generous to help me help my friend. Bless them and this business for their compassion for the human condition. I would highly recommend this business to anyone in need of repairs and maintenance servicing. I have an older model Bernina machine that stopped working in the middle of my busy craft show season. I originally took it across the street to the Bernina dealer & was quoted around $50 including the $7 part along with a week wait time due to having to order the part (the part was a screw). When my machine still wasn't fixed two weeks later, I decided to try The Electric Needle. I walked in, explained the issue and Jen went to work. Twenty minutes and 1 screw later my machine was fixed & put back together - all for the VERY reasonable price of $10. I will obviously be using The Electric Needle for my machines from now on & when I am in the market for a new one, this will be my preferred store to shop at. read more

Yesterday, I rented time on one of the Electric Needle's long arm sewing machines. This was my first experience quilting on a long arm machine. The staff bent over backward to help me throughout the entire process. Mary spent a lot of time teaching me how to use the machine. Whenever I had a question or needed help, someone was right there to help me out. Everyone was so patient and friendly. Because it was my first time, I did not realize how long the process would take. I had two quilts and picked a time consuming pattern. I ended up finishing a half hour after the shop closed, on a Friday no less. Mary and Jen were both very kind and accommodating, which I greatly appreciated. My projects turned out beautifully. I love that I can say I made the quilt from start to finish rather than having to hire someone to finish the quilting. And renting the machine is much more economical than hiring someone. I plan to return (probably many times); I highly recommend the Electric Needle. read more
