Guided Rides - Our guide Josh managed to make it all work perfect; for a mom who is truly a mountain biking beginner, the dad who seems to be able to handle anything and the son who really enjoys a challenge. My point is, they happily accommodate all skills levels. Rental Bike options - it's only first class here with beautifully equipped new Yeti bikes, you will leave wanting one of these babies for sure! Plenty of choices for all rider types/sizes/etc... Location - The Bike Farm is easy to find just outside Asheville proper then a short trip to unbelievable trail options. Your guide will discuss what you want to do, then plan the route accordingly. We originally chose one day then added a second because we just couldn't get enough. If we could have stayed longer, we definitely would have. When our son decided to attend Brevard College, The Hub promised us a family discount for the…read moreduration of his enrollment. We received that discount on our previous visit and noted it in our reservation for this trip. When we arrived, the manager told us the policy had changed, the employee who had offered us the discount no longer worked there, and someone was supposed to have emailed us about the change. He then acknowledged that the email hadn't been sent. Had we been notified, we would have had time to consider other options, including renting elsewhere or riding just one day. Instead, The Hub's cancellation fee meant we would have to spend an additional $30 and change our plans to make other arrangements. When we asked the manager to make it right, he refused. We understand that businesses change policies and employees move on. We had no problem with the new policy applying to future visits, when we knew what to expect before making a reservation. We expected The Hub to honor its commitment on a reservation made in good faith, particularly when we had specifically noted the discount and were never informed of the change, despite The Hub having six days to reach out between when we made the reservation and when we arrived to pick up the bikes. The Hub may point out that they let us use a truck pad at no charge. Had we known it cost $30 to rent the pad, we would have ridden from the parking lot, as we did on our previous visit. We live in Crested Butte, Colorado, another mountain town where mountain biking tourism is vital to the local economy. We know how much customer service and word of mouth matter to independent bike shops. Perhaps The Hub has grown to the size where it can afford to value policies over people. We'll be getting to know other independent, locally owned shops in Brevard. One bright spot was Squatch, whose owner was exceptionally nice and helpful when we visited after our experience with The Hub. There are plenty of places to rent a bike in a mountain town; choose one that values its customers over a few extra dollars.

Jump Off Rock--located about 15 minutes from Hendersonville, NC--is a scenic overlook of Western North Carolina with three easy hiking trails, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a sunny day. There is complimentary parking, easy-to-follow trails that are hiker-friendly for all ages, benches to enjoy the scenic outlook, and wheelchair accessibility. Once my family arrived, we enjoyed the magnificent view of the Western North Carolina mountain range, taking photos of the scenery and personal selfies together. There is a drawing of the mountain range that identifies which mountains you are looking at. I found this very helpful since I could finally put names to the mountains in front of my eyes. After admiring the amazing view, we took the three hikes Jump Off Rock offers. The trails are fairly easy, ranging from 0.25 to 1 mile. They are easy to access, located on the left and right sides of the parking lot. The paths are simple to follow and not too dangerous for occasional hikers and their furry friends. While we were there, my family and I saw two deer on the path, which was really cool. Altogether, the three trails took us around 30 minutes at an average pace. Just a quick note--there are no restrooms or portable toilets at Jump Off Rock. I recommend stopping in Hendersonville or at a gas station before making your journey. If it's a nice day or you just want to get out of the house, I highly recommend visiting Jump Off Rock to enjoy the scenic overlook of the Western North Carolina mountain range and reconnect with nature.
