My dad was visiting last week and we were messing around with my bike (like you do when you're a middle-aged person and a septuagenarian) when an Unfortunate Event occurred, necessitating repairs to my bike (but thankfully not Dad). We took it to Sycamore and worked with Caleb, who said he could get the part from Shimano but it'd take about 2 months. However, if we could source the part sooner, he'd install it. We found the part online at a bike shop in Alabama and Caleb confirmed it was the right one. The AL shop shipped it straight to Caleb and I'm picking up my bike this afternoon. Throughout this process I've been impressed with and grateful for Caleb's customer service, follow-through, and communication. I always make a point to stop in and get a trail recommendation or conditions update, as Pisgah has those areas that just don't dry well after a rain the week before, or maybe there's a reroute that just got done. Helps to be prepared! Hannah was very knowledgeable and very friendly and was able to get me what I needed quickly. I had an idea of what I wanted (needed some kind of bike bag device), and she directed me to something else - and I'm actually way more pleased with her recommendation that I would have been with the one I wanted (my thought had a lot of set up and removal and I love the ease of use of her pick!) The main reason I rented from Sycamore was they opened earlier than other shops. I had a bit of a time constraint so I wanted to maximize my riding. They had a great selection of bikes, even some hard tails for those (like myself) that like to hit gnarly trails on bikes that aren't made for it haha!! Prices on rentals were good as well. The "manager" mansplained to my wife (who is an attorney) the problem with her Santa Cruz bike that SHE needed a better shifter or SHE needed to hold the shift longer and that her shifter wasn't good quality. The problem started after my wife purchased carbon wheels, a new cassette, and chain from Sycamore for her bike. The three times she rode it it never properly shifted. With thousands spend one wants their bike to function properly. They do not stand behind their work and even tried to charge $10.00. We took her amazing bike to the hub and they tighten the derailleur and adjusted the set limit screw. The bike ran perfect and the Hub did the fix at no charge. read more

Let me start off by saying the staff was helpful for the most part then this happened, They said if you rented bikes from them you would get that credit towards a new bike but they didn't say how long you have to redeem that offer... I rented from them multiple times over the past year and said they you only have three months to redeem it. Super unfair and not friendly about it either with I asked them. It's funny how they'll lose a customer over $100 then The new customer spreading the word how good they were and getting them more sales! Staff was all wearing masks per COVID precautions and very helpful and friendly. I came in first thing In the morning and Nathan was VERY kind to squeeze me in for to quick tune up on one of my presta tips. I came by after my ride to say thank you and an associate helped me find the tool so I can fix the issue myself next time. Good Shop especially if you're a Specialized fan. I've had mixed experiences in the shop, but my most recent was really awesome. I brought my Tarmac in for what i was sure was a failing bottom bracket (creak) only to find out (embarrassingly) that it was a slightly loose rear wheel skewer that also lacked grease. They fixed it quick, charged me almost nothing, and didn't even shame me about being such an idiot. Also, they put on a 62 mile gravel race on 10/22/17. Super fun, minimal support but super challenging route. It was done in the spirit of community and hugely appreciated by all of us who attended. Thanks! read more

I have tried to shop at this store three times and each time I leave frustrated. The staff does not acknowledge you, despite their seeing you standing in the middle of the small store. Of my three visits, I have been spoken to once because I asked a staff member a question. The response was curt and dismissive. My husband says it could be because I don't look like a traditional mountain biker -- I'm a short, black woman so maybe that is why. Either way, when I walk into a store to spend money, especially on products as valuable as these mountain bikes, I expect retailers to put their assumptions aside and provide at least some level of service. I hope the Hendersonville shop is more attentive. I would recommend using Motion Makers in Asheville or Sylva if you are looking for Specialized bikes, or Sasquatch in Brevard for other biking needs. The Hub is also preferable to Sycamore because they will at least acknowledge your presence. read more

I had an issue with my shifting/derailleur and I had a client I was taking out on an earlier road ride. I found out this issue as my pulled my bike out of the car, after arriving late at the night the night before. We were to meet at 7:30 and I had to send them a message at like 7:25 that I couldn't shift at all. Anywho we met up and I was like what the heck are we going to do, as they had planned their whole day around riding early with me then they were to spend family time together. I was shocked and amazed to find that Sycamore Cycles was open already -- they open at 7:30. The other perhaps more shiny and well known bike shop across the street was closed at least for a couple more hours. Cheers to the kind folks at SC with getting up early and Nathan was able to easily tackle my frayed cable in just a couple minutes so as we could start riding almost right away. Got great advice as well too related to some more beginner trails at DuPont, being I mostly ride a road bike. I highly recommend Sycamore Cycles for early am service and guidance, as well as afternoon / PM work too! They've got a killer coffee/smoothie bar inside their digs too. read more

Can't rave enough about the team at Sycamore Cycles. I reserved an MTB using their online system which was great and easy to use. When I turned up in Brevard there had been four inches of rain in the previous three days so the trails were closed. On top of that my friends had bailed so my two days of riding seemed a washout. No problem though Andy swapped out the MTB for a gravel bike and one of the other guys showed my a great route right from the shop. In the end had a great day out and they happily refunded the second day. read more

Starting off with a surprising amount of inventory for a bike shop in the pandemic. The people were very nice and friendly. Coral helped us struggle to put the rental rack on our car. The rental bikes were in incredible condition and they were as good of a tool as you could possibly want for kanuga. The shop was very nice and well organized. Good mountain bike shop with careful mechanics. They also have a few road bikes. I rented a hard-tail mountain bike here for $45 for the first day, $35 for following days. The bike already had SPD pedals on it. I have never figured out why it costs more to rent a bike than a car. Sycamore makes this situation slightly worse because a 24-hour rental period is counted as two days (e.g., if you pick a bike up at 3 pm on Monday and return it at noon on Tuesday, Hertz would charge you for one day and Sycamore would count this as two because you were in possession of the bike for some fraction of each of two calendar days (I guess)). read more

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't read their contract well enough. But to clarify, nowhere on said contract does it say they charge for full day rentals regardless of pickup time. That is only on their website (which I did not refer to before renting the bike). The staff member I dealt with was my point of reference and also wrote that I needed to return the bikes by 2pm on Monday (I picked up at 2pm on whatever day at the end of the week before). Why would he write that if it was a full day rental? That led me to believe it was like a car rental out by 2pm, in by 2pm. They didn't refund a day's fee to "be gracious". The employee who was working in the shop when we returned the bike a day early just did it, no problem. It wasn't until I pointed out that I was charged an extra day to start was I told refunds were against their policy and that original 1 day credit for returning the bikes early (which I was told was no problem by the original employee I spoke with) was to considered in good faith. I also never reserved mountain bikes. I asked if we could return the road bikes and switch out for a mountain bike our last day in town. I said that it was a possibility, but wasn't sure,nothing more. Was told it was no problem and did not know that that they had "held" 2 bikes for me until after the fact. And since the contract is sacramont, nowhere on the signed contract did it say I would be switching the road bikes out for mountain bikes. At the end of the day, they had great bikes, were very friendly, but still refused to take responsibility for what their customer was told by an employee. Unfortunately I just asked questions and spoke with an employee, did a poor skim of the contract (that's on me) and signed. Frankly, if it hadn't of been for the incorrect info I was given and then the total dismissal of that at the end of the day, I would totally recommend these guys. Read the contract, be aware they charge for a full day rental (even if you pick up an hour before they close) and you'll have a great bike and a great time. read more

Very professional, came in looking at routes in DuPont State Forest as we are beginners. Gave us a mild trail to acclimate us with this areas riding. I rented a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR 29er for a ride through DuPont State Forest and had a great time all around. The Hendersonville mechanic spent quite a while with me explaining the recommended trails at DuPont and giving advice on the various bikes compared to what I was used to riding. Perhaps the prior reviewer's experience had some influence, but the guys I spoke with at both shops were very explicit about the length of time for each rental: their rental day started when they opened in the morning and ended when they closed. I could pick up the bike after 5:30 the prior day (and did) for an extra $10. The bike was set up for my weight and had no problems during some hard riding. Their folks all seemed to be real enthusiasts and wanted me to have a fun experience. read more

Made a special journey to see what bikes they would offer and recommend, I'm new to the area and wanted a road and gravel bike, I did a little research before going and thought the Diverge range of Specialized bike would be the way to go. As I walked in I was greeted in a friendly manner, I started to explain what I required, suggesting that I had a Sirrus bike that I rode previously which I liked and before I could continue the salesman said that the Sirrus range was 'only' a commuter bike - I had rode this bike on a 300 mile trip across the uk. He then pointed me to the the cyclocross bike on display in the shop window for $1500 which I said was a little out of my price range, he then lost all interest in speaking to me, even when I walked to the bike I was interested in ($1250 I think) he still wasn't interested. If you want to be patronised and helped by someone who knows bugger all about the Specialized range then go to Sycamore Cycles. I later drove to Motion Makers Bicycle Shop in Asheville who offered a lot more advice including a trial on the Diverge sport - couldn't have been more helpful. read more
