While we were driving from Asheville on our way back to Bat Cave later that day I spotted a new hiking trail head. Basically it is tucked right off the winding country highway. There is a sign, and some gravel parking. What I noticed while driving by were the cars parked there. So be on the lookout. We planned to hike it the next morning. We decided to get an early start. When we arrived before 8am, there were two cars parked in the gravel near the trail head. You start by crossing the road, you head down before (trust me) you go up the mountain. You can choose to hike just 1.1 miles to Little Bearwallow Falls. Or you can continue up to Wildcat Rock which is listed as basically 1.6 miles one way which sounds easy. But if you ask me it is straight up. The day we went it felt like we were hiking in the rain forest. We were sweating so much that sweat was dripping from our finger tips as we hiked up. I loved every minute of it. We were secluded and we were working hard. It felt so good. Once we reached Little Bearwallow Falls, we just knew that we needed to continue to the top. We needed to see something a little more spectacular. Once we reached the top to Wildcat Rock it was gorgeous. We stepped out of the foliage and we could see the valley below and the mountains in the distance. It was beautiful. We waited and we were lucky enough to see a bird soaring high above the mountain tops. It was the perfect hike for us. Strenuous yet providing the feeling of peace and accomplishment. We highly suggest checking out Wildcat Rock especially if Chimney Rock is too busy, or if money is a factor. There is no cost to enter at this trailhead unlike if you go to Chimney Rock. Also, take water.

If you're looking at AllTrails, we did Little Bearwallow via Wildcat Rock Trail. The trail is pretty steep and on the more strenuous side. It's 4.7 miles round trip if you follow the same path. If you only care about views, I would recommend going to the Wildcat Rock Overlook and turning around after that. It would be about 3 miles round trip. There are no views from the Little Bearwallow Summit. The Wildcat Rock Trail also continues to Bearwallow Mountain, but we didn't do that portion. I'd like to come back for it at some point.

This is an easy trail with clearly marked paths. I would highly recommend it to folks who aren't seasoned hikers. The path ends at a high point where you get stunning views for many miles. One thing to note is the end-point happens to be a spot frequented by cows, so you will be dodging tons of piles of... excrement... and it is stinky! But, it's worth it for the views- promise! We walked up and back within a couple of hours and had a great time!

This section of the Pisgah National Forest is gorgeous and the beauty of the trail will make you feel excited about life and nature. It truly feels like a blessing to be able to witness such amazing places with your own eyes. After finding a parking space in the large pull-off, follow the sidewalk south to a bridge leading over Looking Glass Creek. The trail immediately goes up a semi-steep hill for a spell, but eventually levels out. You will have an elevated view of the parking area for about 100 yards before the trail veers left into the woods. Thoughtful boardwalks are placed in areas that get a little muddy and after another slight uphill climb, you will soon after see the falls. You have a choice of walking onto the observation deck for Moore Cove Falls, heading downhill to the base (splash zone) or uphill to the cave like overhang area perfect for a family picnic. While there ARE trails leading further up to the cliffs near the crest of the falls, signs highly discourage anyone from following them. Deaths have occurred here from people who do not respect the danger of this natural wonder. NOTE: According to the topography map on ALLTRAILS, the creek begins a steep descent to the crest of the falls around 2789 feet and flows over the crest around 2600 feet, leaving about 189 feet of cascades not visible from the base of the falls. *** [ THINGS TO KNOW ] Total Hiking Distance: 1.2 miles (roundtrip) Difficulty: Easy, although the trail start off uphill Creek Crossings: YES (bridged) Elevation Gain: 165 feet Waterfall Height: about 50 feet Waterfall source: Moore Creek WATERFALL ATTRACTIVENESS - 7 out of 10 TRAIL ATTRACTIVENESS - 7 out of 10 Access to top of falls: Not recommended Access to base of falls: YES Pool of water @ base of Falls: NO Sitting areas @ base: YES RESTROOM FACILITIES: NO PARKING: YES (space for about 20-25 cars) but be forewarned, this is a VERY popular waterfall hiking trail. *** [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] MOORE COVE FALLS was our 13th waterfall of the 15 we visited in a 3 day weekend!!! This past time, I needed the restroom and could not believe there weren't any bathrooms! I was desperate and asked several different people who pointed me in different directions to the parks associated with the trail. Each time, the bathrooms were locked. It was awful! I also didn't bring water, and that was a big mistake. I live in a place with trails like this that all have water fountains and restrooms, so I take it for granted that trails have facilities. This time I ended up going to a church and begging a woman to let me in...thankfully she did, but it was after being desperate for about 45 minutes. I would only return with an empty bladder and with my own water packs so as not to become dehydrated. Also, it could have been because it was the holidays (29 December 2022), but the trails were far less maintained this time. There was a lot of litter, signs of homeless encampments, and debris. At one point, the trail was not accessible due to ice and flooding but there was no sign indicating it was closed ahead. It's still a lovely greenway and has emergency pulls to use if needed.

We went to Little Bradley Falls, located in Saluda, North Carolina. Due to a wildfire that happened a couple of years back some of the trials are restricted for hikers. However, you are still able to see Little Bradley Falls and explore the surrounding area. The trail is pet and kid friendly, with designated paths, so you do not have to worry about getting lost. The parking lot is more of "pull of the side of the road" style parking. It was tight, but I was able to park my SUV. Although the majority of Little Bradley Falls trail was closed, the rest of the trail was well kept, and you could visibly see the park staff was working on reopening the damaged trail. The waterfall was beautiful, there is an observation area where you can see the majestic waterfall, perfect for photos. Although the trail was well cleared, one dangerous part is you have to climb over rocks in the river to get to the other side of the trail. It wasn't that difficult, but should be considered when planning your hike to Little Bradley Falls. If you are in the Saldua North Carolina area, or want to take an easy hike with the family, I would definitely recommend taking a look into Little Bradley Falls. I hope to return in the future to complete the other trailhead that is adjacent from Little Bradley Falls.

The trails are well marked, but you'll want to either download the trails map ahead of time from their website, or take a photo of the park map at the parking lot, because they don't have maps along the trails & there are several trails to chose from. We hiked to High Falls and then Triple Falls, which is a bit further (both beautiful!), which I would say are moderate-level difficulty due to the inclines & some portions of the trail are loose gravel. Easy for The Hubs and I, but a tad more of a challenge for my in-laws. There are some spots with rocks just the right size to sit on and have a rest if you need a break. There are restrooms at the High Falls trailhead parking lot, and a gift shop. I'm not sure about restrooms elsewhere in the park.

DANIEL RIDGE FALLS is also known as Tom's Spring Branch Falls and Jackson Falls. It is located in…read morethe Pisgah National Forest along the Daniel Ridge Loop Trail. This magical 150 foot waterfall is an easy family-friendly half mile hike from the parking area. The gravel road leading to the parking area was in very good condition on our April 11th, 2021 visit, but be forewarned this is a popular hiking AND camping destination, so the decent sized parking area fills up quickly on weekends. PRO TIP - The best overall picture of the falls is from the main trail and not from the side trail leading to the base. There is also a secondary trail once at the base of the falls that takes you about 12 feet higher. [ THE HIKE ] Walk toward the gate on the north end of the parking area. The entire trail to the falls is a wonderfully wide and well maintained forest service road. Approximately 325 feet past the gate you will encounter an iron bridge allowing you to cross Davidson River. It is here along the riverbanks we notice a half dozen hikers had set up camp for the night. About 145 feet past the bridge the trail will split. Follow the trail to the right, which is also marked with an arrow pointing towards the falls. Between the split and the falls is where you will have the majority of the elevation gain, but that being said, it is very minimal. Just before you reach the falls, you will see a small trail on the left leading upwards. Take this to reach the base of the falls, but for the best view of the falls, stay on the main trail. I love using ALLTRAILS for the topography maps which show elevation changes using sweeping lines. According to the map, the crest of the fall begins around 2920 feet and reaches the base around 2756 feet, where it still continues to drop an additional 15 feet to the main trail. This would make the Daniel Creek Falls approximately 179 feet tall, but only about 125 feet of it is visible from the trail. A drone video I saw on one website shows it in it's entirety and WOWZA, this is a very tall waterfall! The upper tiers are recessed back out of view, but it doesn't really matter because what IS visible is stunning enough. You can continue to hike the entire loop of this trail which will add 4 miles to your hike or simply walk the way you came back to the parking area making your total roundtrip hike1.1 miles.
