YA'LL gotta try this place. I remember calling a week before our scheduled dinner and spoke to different staff. They were very polite and patient. Until I found Nanay Nette whom they call Mom and had preordered cake,Avocado Lime,for the birthday celebrant,Alice C. Instantly,I got all what I wanted plus some Filipino specialties. Let's see...this place was full and there was a 20 minute wait time. The bar was available for us. Oddly,no cocktails served here but Sangria but oh yeah,that was very tasty. The chicharon was the best here. It was still crackling when the staff brought it on our table. The cheesecake dip(name forgotten) was also phenomenal. Uhm..everything was good. We were treated special here because they knew we are from CA and meeting Southern people was always a pleasure. We haven't met Rico but we're happy Nanay Nette(Rico's Mom) sat and chatted with us. My brother and his lovely wife took me there for lunch last Friday and it was a treat to finally go there. They patronize Rico's quite often, so it was fun to finally patronize the establishment. I did an appetizer and soup, and had the Lumpia and the French Onion soup for lunch. The Lumpia was very tasty, but the French onion soup kinda' lacked 'full flavor' from what I've had before at other restaurants. My brother let me try one of his Fried Green Tomatoes and it was good. But again, seemingly lacking in full flavor (at least from what I would expect...or maybe my taste buds were off that day?) Overall, it was a nice experience, with some great service! As usual, the place was crowded and parking was atrocious (glad my brother was driving...), so plan on hunting for parking, and maybe even waiting for a table. Four Stars! read more

The food is absolutely the best. The chef takes so much pride in his creation. You can see his passion through the every menu item. Very well thought of. The service is just as wonderful, the servers are very polite. Rico's mom is an angel. She bakes the delicious unique flavored cakes and is out there welcoming you like family to their home. My favorite item is the fried green tomato salad with fried chicken. I went there twice in a row just to have it again. So yummy! The restaurant is an old gas station that was renovated, it also feels likes everyone knows the servers which tells me many repeat customers...Fried Green Tomato Salad must try! It's kinda hit or miss. For me it's all about the specials and sometimes they are amazing and worth 4 or even 5 stars and sometimes not so much. I am always pleased by there filet specials, they nail it every time. But tonight's shrimp and lobster wasn't great. The risotto was just not done well and lacked lobster. I had the specialty burger. The good: --the meat: whatever the blend of meat is that they use, it is probably the best burger meat patty that I've ever eaten in my life. They cooked it PERFECTLY medium-rare. This patty was oozing with juicy flavor. It was hot. It was amazing. --the homemade pimento cheese: OMG that was genius to put that on a burger. It was so yummy and warm/melty. I loved it. --the fried green tomatoes: I had one on the burger and several as an appetizer. It had a lovely cornmeal crust. The bad: --sweet bacon jam: what the heck is so sweet? Is it pineapple? My mouth was utterly confused whenever I tasted it. Ick. It might work for other dishes, but not on this burger. It was completely confusing and distracting from all the goodness above. --the bun: man, did you read how juicy the patty is above? Well that means the bottom bun is going to be a soggy mess. Suggestion: slather a nice thick layer of homemade mayo on the bottom to try to protect the bun from all the juice. And skip that sick sweet jam stuff, even if it does have bacon. What a waste of bacon. --one shared restroom: the toilet was disgusting. Whichever men frequented the restroom couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Clearly you were not even trying. Again, disgusting. --the hummingbird drink: it was pretty boring. Very bland to me. I didn't think it was worth the price tag at all. I'd get a glass of wine next time. --Sweet potato chips: I LOVE me some sweet tater chips. Except when they are sprinkled with... POWDERED SUGAR. What the?!??? Seriously, why would you ruin those beautiful chips? I tried 3 times to like them. They were a lovely width. They were perfectly crispy and crunchy. But that sugar ruined them! Ick. read more

First time eating here. I'm annoyed about being taken all the way to the patio to be seated. There were plenty of empty tables inside. And no one sitting outside. Why are you taking me to the back? I wasn't even given a choice. The food was good but the host. He has to go. Brought it to managers attention and gave some bullshit excuse about numbers. My friend and I met at 2 today to grab one of their sandwiches. And, while the sandwich (smoked chicken Cuban) was very good, a couple of things bugged me a little. The "Hostess" needs to think about where to seat the customer based on what makes sense, not cramming us in between 2 very loud groups - especially silly when there were MANY open tables where we could have been spaced out more!!! Also, I'm not sure what the issue was with getting correct change back, but if the "house" doesn't want to keep change, then they should say" credit cards only". And, the weight staff there as well as mini restaurants I go to just assume that I'm going to give them whatever's left as a tip - even if it's 50 or 60% of the bill. Now I think it's very rude to ask "do you want change back"? because that implies that I'm cheap if I do want change back. The server should bring back the correct change and let me make that decision. But trying to make the decision for me and gouge me out of extra money I may not have been willing to leave, really set a wrong tone for me - especially when she asked me a 2nd time SMDH - she was either unable or unwilling to get my $1's for change. I'd still eat there again, but plan on only paying with credit card. read more

Lauren, our server who has worked here since they opened 7yrs ago, knows the menu like she created it herself! The good, the best and her favorites. She is also candid about her lesser favs. Honesty appreciated. We ordered as much as we thought we could eat and of course, could not. Starting with the crispy, still crackling pork skins, there were plenty to eat with the vinegar dipping juice. Still popping as they sat and talking right back when dipped. The firecracker shrimp topped with a seaweed salad was spectacular! Wish there were more. Crispy and spicy, Not hot. The Shrimp and Grits are the absolute BEST I have eaten, anywhere. The Remoulade Butter that coated the grits was creamy and savory. Plenty of shrimp and the Toasted Ciabatta for sopping up the sauce was perfect! So piggy me and my man enjoyed this so much, that we caught Lauren and had her deconstruct the Shrimp Poboy for later. She never batted an eye or hesitated. Came here for lunch with my family around noon on a Friday and got seated immediately. I split a Chicken Cuban sandwich and the Fried Green Tomato salad. Both were wonderful! The sandwich came with this vinegar au jus to dip your sandwich in, so yummy (if you like vinegar)! The portions were perfect also. No one was disappointed with their meal. 1st day of Vacation and we're driving down from Cornelius NC to Marietta GA to drop some things off at my son's house and to spend some time with the Grandsons. My wife thought the main door was the entrance to an antique shop. Not the case but a lot of things from the 60-s and 70"s. Busy but make for a great atmosphere. The lunch menu is very interesting and makes you wonder if they can deliver on these interesting combinations. Based on the very limited experience of one visit, they do a great job here. My wife found an Apricot, Ham and Brie of Grilled French Bread that she ordered along with Sweet Potato Fries. I had the Royal Rooster which is a Habanero Chicken Breast with Swiss Cheese on a Potato Roll along with a Hash Brown Casserole. Verdict was my wife want to go back for another Apricot, Ham and Brie. Loved the Sweet Potato Fries but felt the powder sugar was not needed. The Royal Rooster was great with just the right amount of heat. Hash Brown Casserole was good but not the right compliment to the Royal Rooster. Service was great. Server was there when we needed her, answered all of our questions and left us alone to enjoy our meal but did not ignore or abandon us either. Just the right amount of service. A bit off of the beaten path but only 10 minutes from the GA Mall. If you're traveling I-85 in GA and you come up on Exit 120, might be a nice diversion to explore read more

No less than 5 stars for Rico's! I'd been here before on several occasions and I have no clue why I've never posted a review. Other than the squirrely parking sitch (of which other reviews have mentioned), Rico's is a Buford gem. The food is outstanding and the service is prompt and friendly. Although my date's ribeye was more well-done than the rare he'd ordered, his special of the day was still delicious, but couldn't hold a candle to the amberjack, lentil, asparagus, lemon aioli special that I had. One of my favorite places in the area, Ricos has unique tasty food. I try to take everyone there that is visiting that I know will enjoy an eclectic menu. 5 of us went recently and a few had not been there before. As myself and another person were naming what was good on the menu I think we named practically everything! I also forgot they have specials of the day and they are fantastic as well - at least 3 of us thought so on this visit. They also have a decent fairly unusual bottled/canned beer menu. Not extensive but usually my beer snob self can find something I like. I never save room for dessert but that looks good also. The reviews on this place don't lie. read more

First time eating at Rico's and wasn't impressed. Food left something to be desired as follows: Meal was barely warm, not piping hot. Ordered NY strip special and requested meat be cooked medium, came to the table somewhere between rare and medium rare. Place has high ceilings and is very, very loud. On the positive side, au gratin potatoes were tasty, and portion sizes overall were adequate. Service was superb and André was on his AAA+++ game. Wait time for a table was only 35 min., which was excellent for a busy Friday night. Don't think we'll be back. read more
