Nice little mom and pop shop that's been here for 30 years. Very small on the inside and the offerings are straight to the point. You will see rick himself behind the counter making all the subs him self with his wife beside him and one other women at the register. I have to say, I'm impressed at the speed rick moves because when we arrived, there was a line out the door and they turned and burned everyone. It was my first time and I ordered a half size philly steak and cheese. The full size sub is literally the length of my arm lol. I enjoyed the sandwich. The bread is nice and fresh, it is clearly baked specially for this shop. The steak is shaved paper thin. Also had an order of seasoned fries which were good as well. Had to get a Diet Coke to cut the grease and wash it all down. Keep up the great work guys and see you again soon read more

I used to eat here often when I worked in Dearborn a few years back. I haven't been back since well before new mgmt took over and they remodeled but I was planning to go there today after picking my son up from the train station, however, I just saw their menu and they've almost doubled the prices! The great price point was part of the appeal. Yes the food is (was?) good, but the reason I originally gave it such a high rating was because of the value for the price. I can stay local and get an overpriced, decent tasting sub at a number of places. I figured the prices would increase somewhat after the remodel, but not several dollars per sub. I am by no means a petite eater. Trust me, when you come here, get the half. Ricky's came to my attention after Allison A's review. When I saw Rodger W. also was a fan I knew it had to be sandwich shop gold. Add to this the buzzword of cheap, oh yeah I am going to give it a whirl. The place is clean, the pace is pretty darn speedy and all in all I was a happy camper with everything. Very fresh and tasty. Definitely packed full of flavor. Nice bread, good meat and plenty of it. I had the pepper steak and cheese and it was really great. James went with a super salami and cheese (both genoa and hard with provolone). That was also a wonderfully delicious choice. I'm definitely looking to return to try more variety but I would be more than happy to grab either of these particular sandwiches again. Luckily we each liked the other's pick because we ended up trading leftovers for our next go rounds. Yes we were stupid enough to get the wholes and no neither of us needed them or could expand our stomachs enough to try. Bonus is the subs were still good for later noshing. read more

This is the best place to cure those noon time belly rumbles! I have been here a dozen times and the subs are awesome. I usually get a half order of the Brontosauraus turkey which is just massive. Yummy!! This is a family run business so you will find Ricky with spatulas in hand manning the grill displaying his culinary skills while his wifey adds the fixings n final touches. However, Ricky's is NOT enforcing local mask mandates (including in its crowded line) nor is offering sufficient social distancing. Calling all steak and cheese lovers! This is the place for you. Ricky's has been around for yearsss and I finally had to give it a try. My husband and I each ordered a Philly Steak and Cheese sub. The sub is PACKED with finely sliced shreds of meat, cheese, onions, peppers and mushrooms. Then it's topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and banana peppers. Don't mess around with the toppings or you'll ruin it. It was delicious and so filling! I could only finish half of my half sub! The only thing is that the sub gets soggy quick so you have to make sure you eat it right away to avoid this from happening. First time there since our first pick was closed. We were glad. I got the philly steak with everything, and my S/O got the Mushroom Steak with everything. Also got fries and cheese sticks. Fries were cajun and thin and crispy, cheese sticks were hot and fresh. Steaks were meaty, fresh, hot and stuffed with ingredients. The service was quick, but we paid 30 bucks. The steak is cut up into tiny pieces, which makes it easy to eat. Whatever cheese sauce they put on the sandwich is heaven. The sandwiches are huge, I could never even finish the half size. Ricky's has made me a believer! My brother convinced (forced) me into his sub shop today and ordered two half mushroom, steak, and cheese subs. As I nervously awaited what I thought would be a culinary mishap, my brother happily chatted away with Ricky. A few minutes later my brother slid a tray with a massive sub on it, to which I exclaimed "this is half a sub?!". Then all I could see was ooey, gooey cheese and bright, crisp veggies. I took the first bite so fast, my tongue still hurts from the burn I received. I couldn't stop at that point and demolished the sandwich in less than a few minutes (imagine a skinny Arab girl with a crazed look in her eyes and melted cheese everywhere ). The meat was perfection. It was seasoned well, juicy, and had the perfect amount of fat intermingled with melted cheese. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp. The banana pepper added a great tanginess to the medley of flavors. And the vessel to all this deliciousness, the bread, was soft and warm and perfect. Ricky was incredibly nice and after praising him on creating a masterpiece, he proudly showed us the meat he used for his subs. He was very humble and we left satisfied and happy. The cheesesteaks are legit, they have TVs, clean toilets, desserts yea, THAT good. My wife and I stopped by Rick's on Saturday (11/21). We ordered a few large Philly's, but we weren't impressed with the quality or the price. In our last couple of visits to this place, the bread was rock hard and certainly dated and we both threw away at least an inch from each end. The toppings were scarce. For almost $17 for a large, it definitely wasn't worth it. They even charge extra for raw onions and won't even allow a substitution. Back in the day, I used to visit this place 3-4 times a week for lunch. The owner took pride in every sandwich. Now, it's just another place that wants to maximize profit by pushing out as many subs as possible, regardless of quality. I doubt we'll be back. Hands down, in a side by side comparison, Penn Station is way better and much more consistent. Sorry Rick's, three strikes, you're out! read more

Tried Ricky's for the first time and I was very impressed! For a half sub you are looking at around $4-$5, and the quality and quantity of the meal is excellent. The staff was great and friendly, and our food was ready in a reasonably fast amount of time considering the huge lunch rush. The rolls are very fresh and the quality of the steak is so good. I ordered the "Philly steak and Cheese" which includes cheese, onions, mushrooms, green peppers. I also added a little mayo and some banana peppers. I loved the sandwich and the portion size is huge, even for a half. You definitely will not leave here hungry. The day I visited there was a "CASH ONLY" sign on the register, so be prepared with cash just in case. There's an overall old-school feel to this place, which adds to the experience. One of the better places for a lunch in Dearborn, and the subs are outstanding. Would visit here again anytime! read more

Delicious, fresh ingredients. Full assortment of hot and cold selections. Full sub is about 14 inches. That's if you're hungry and want to take the rest with you. Great for daytime lunch. This is a locally owned sub shop that may be familiar to the Ford employees and other Dearborn employees nearby. The bread is what keeps me coming back. Its soft, while holding its bite underneath a saucy sandwich. When your order is passed down to the grill person, be ready to yell out any quick adjustments, 'more green pepper, add some italian dressing' just about everyone does this. The chubby chicken is a popular order. With all the veggies and cheese it is a filling meal. I have had the BLT sub which I noticed they put the bacon in the deep fryer ( GASP! my heart) but it was Really Good. I will put it on my 'order this only once a year' list. The italian is great, there are 6 kinds of custom spices like Garlic Spice, Cayenne, Lemon Pepper so you can season up your sub the way you like it. I used to like this place until today. - Dirty, unclean, Stood in line, paid the cashier. she punched it in to her Keyboard walked over with my card in her hand grabbed sub buns from the bag with no gloves and no hand washing. finally got my sandwich as I walked out to the car the cook came out and yelled - I accidentally gave you a whole instead of a half which I hadnt noticed. She wanted it back. OK whatever. so I go inside to get another sandwich she takes the whole thing out of the wrap splits it in two. no gloves then wraps it up and gives it back to me - she also touched the door to come outside and the trash can before she went back. she even wrapped up the other half for another customer after I took it outside!!! No bueno. Never going again. I would have made a thing about it, but my coworkers will want to go back so i dont want to get them banned. read more

Grubhub really jacks up the real price! A $10.99 sandwich is $14.99 if you order carry-out through them. I decided to try the mushroom steak & cheese, and the O G Philly steak sandwich. The sub bun was doughy, gummy, and tasteless. 1 star. The rest of the sandwich was ok. The meat was tender but doesn't have that heavenly flavor and texture like in Philly. The squeeze cheese on the O G reminded me of the taste of water. For Detroit, this is high quality cheesesteak. (Sigh...) This would be 1 or 2 stars in Philly, but it is rated by most as 5 star food in Detroit. read more

I was NOT impressed. At all. And this devastates me. I think we all know that I have a cheesesteak "problem," but I still had to recite the Serenity Prayer on the way home because my addiction needs were NOT met. So the place had major potential - it's like a Tubby's and the grill was full of awesome-smelling meats and veggies when I walked up. Honestly when I got my tray of a half sub and fries I was totally pumped because it all looked picture perfect. The fries were seasoned immediately with seasoned salt and pepper so they were golden and delicious. The sub was HUGE - like 8-10 inches and packed with meat, onions, lettuce, and banana peppers. I ordered no tomato but I don't think I got any cheese either. The half sub is seriously only $5! The killer part is the reality that the meat, while plentiful, was totally flavorless and dry! The meat tasted totally unseasoned. Even with the italian dressing they said was there, there was no moisture or flavor. The second killer part was that they WAY over-seasoned the sub on top of the lettuce with black pepper. So much so that my lips were burning after I was half-way through the half-sub. I also had a love/hate relationship with the bun - they claim it's homemade and I did love the texture, but the sesame seeds on top were grilled/toasted to the point that they have that additional toasted flavor, but almost burnt. I'm not a fan of that flavor so it bothered me. Some may like that. I do need to say that the subs are made fresh, it's REAL steak (higher quality than Tubby's) and it was PACKED full of stuff. *sigh* I don't have the heart to give them 2-stars, but it really was a "meh" experience. I didn't finish the sub. I will go back and try them again and hopefully have a different experience. Sad. read more

I've been working in the same area for almost 10 years, so I was really looking for a new place to grab lunch. I stumbled across Ricky's, and boy am I happy I did! First of all, you might think your hungry, but if you plan on getting the full sub I hope you're either planning to enter a food competition, or you're saving the other half for the next day. The half sub is huge, and the full size is monstrous! I ordered the Chubby Chicken. That's grilled chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and sauce on a really soft sesame seed bun. I think the bread is absolutely delicious. My order came up in about five minutes after I ordered, and then I was back to work. Today I was disappointed to get there and see a line out the door. That's only a testament to how good their subs are! They would have received five stars if I could have gotten in and out in a reasonable time today, but unfortunately I don't have enough time during lunch. I'll absolutely be back again.
