I was in Uptown all afternoon for appointments and didn't have much time between my next one but was so hungry. I've never been to Rick's but have heard some good things about it so I stopped by to grab a burger. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. Made it to the famous Rick's Drive In & Out, and I even saw Rick sitting in his booth. It felt like spotting a celebrity! I got a bacon cheeseburger and those chili cheese fries that I had heard so much about. Both were kind of middle of the road, or "mid", as the kids say. Shredded cheese not fully melted on the fries. Service was great the lady who took our order was friendly and patiently waited while we decided what to order as it was our first time there. There is plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Its also clean. There's a variety of items on their menu ranging from burgers to even tacos and mexican dishes. I ordered the double cheese burger combo and the burger tasted great. It had good flavor and taste. The only thing I thought was plain were the fries. I'm not a big fan of salt but even a pinch of salt would have gone a long way. They were definitely missing something. And thought the portions of fries was kind of small compared to the size of the burger. The ambiance was pretty relaxing considering it was a saturday evening. their oreo shakes are algo good. Hate to do a 1 star review. But the burger was horrible and it was not the same burger we used to eat a year ago. This was a special place saved for special occasions and the burger was a restful best burger in Whittier. All of sudden the taste went away maybe the unfortunate passing of Rick did this? Perhaps it needs to be sold or just simply get a good cook with experience. This restaurant will not last if your food continues tasteless and not fresh. Service can be a bit off putting but that could have been an off day for the worker at the register. they get your food out in a decent time. Open kitchen so you can see them keep food when you're at the cashier. The day I ate there I stayed the night before at the doubletree across the street so I just had to cross the street which was nice. I also got to meet Rick and his wife. EAT HERE Don't think twice about stopping at Rick's to grab a burger! Not only is it an affordable option in Old town Whittier, but the food is also absolutely delicious! Made a quick stop here. Decent size parking lot. Can't go wrong with the chocolate milkshake I got. Paid about five and some change. Really good chocolate flavor to it.
