So, I dropped off my car for an oil change at the Kia dealership and decided to eat at Denny's. Seeing Rick's Burgers down the street, I felt nostalgic and decided to eat there. Boy, was that the wrong move on my part! Where do I begin? Well, for starters, the place is run-down. Unless you're into early '70s décor, it's an eyesore, not to mention there's no air conditioning. So, if you dine here, drink plenty of fluids. I ordered the chorizo and egg plate that came with potatoes. If I can describe it in one word: horrible. The chorizo tasted old and chewy, and the potatoes were sliced thin and underwhelming. The only decent item was the beans; they were okay. This is definitely not the Rick's I used to go to back in the day. Don't make the mistake I made and avoid this place at all costs. I felt like I just threw away $16.49.

Hard pass on this place folks

Just witnessed a shorter tan woman with dark hair all but chase what would have been a customer out the door by very aggressively calling them a hispanic curse word due to them asking if there was a restroom they could use before they ordered their meal. Us and the only other table sat just looked on in shock. We only came here because the Popping Yolk up the street (a five start spot) was slammed. First time here and urge you not to visit. Zero customer service, and slow, all while completely empty on Sunday brunch rush. The food was simply..... bad! Am by no means a coffee snob, and rarely drink it, but this coffee MUST be the powdered insta coffee because have had better coffee at a low budget hotel. Or anywhere else. Not many breakfast options around downtown Alhambra, but would suggest going, again, anywhere else.

Ortega Breakfast is potatoes with an awesome salsa and egg with cheese, Chile and I add spinach to it and coffee .

Have been coming to Rick's since highschool always bring so much memories just to ate burger and fries with my coupon after school . Has changed so much through the years misses the Latino vibe there and the Latino music on the weekends. I'm glad food still the same.. Customer Service is awesome I know the girls and cooks for years they're always so nice .

Best breakfast ever! Come here every now and then and each time I leave feeling better. Cindy helped us out today and was the sweetest to us. Really made my friend and I have a good start to our day.

Not even 30 minutes later the whole place was packed. I ordered the Benedict Pancakes ($22) and the seasonal Biscuit souffle pancakes ($18). I also tried the Tonkatsu Curry ($16). For a drink I got the pot of Peach Momo Tea ($6). My benedict pancakes came out first. The souffle pancakes and the tonkatsu curry came out at the same time 30 minutes later. The benedicts weren't bad, but I probably wouldn't get them again. The yolk was solid and not runny and the pancakes were just normal flat pancakes, and they were kind of dry. The tonkotsu and the Japanese pancakes were way better. Both were very flavorful and nice and hot. For the tea pots you also get refills, so we got a lot to drink with that. For a two-person table, it was definitely too small to hold everything that we ordered. Luckily by the time the curry and the pancakes came out I was already finished with my benedict pancakes and was able to give it to them to clear out to make room for the other dishes. Service was good, the wait for the food was long but they were still attentive enough to get us what we needed. Once you get your food they try to get you out as quickly as possible since the longer it went the longer the wait outside was for a table. Overall it was a nice breakfast/brunch experience. It is a bit pricey, but some dishes are better than others. I would come back either for the Japanese pancakes or the curry. The tea was great too. I would probably skip the eggs benedict next time though.

CASH ONLY…read more Definitely one of those hole in wall spots you need to support. Not sure why I was expecting to speak Chinese to order but surprisingly staff taking our order spoke perfect English with no accent. They were quite welcoming and patient while we looked through the entire menu before ordering to-go. Hot Sweet Soybean Milk - good warm temperature and comforting but not the best I've had. Tasted quite watered down. Convenient to grab if you're already here for food. Hot Sweet Soybean Tofu -really good and easy to eat. I personally like the peanuts in it, peanuts soaked up the sweet ginger syrup. Tofu is silky. They do ask if peanuts are ok when you order, you can definitely opt out if you don't like texture in your sweet tofu. Bake Sesame Bread with Beef (added pickles)- really good, sesame bread is more of a flaky pastry rather than a fluffy bun. Expect tons of crumbs but really good. Beef is tender and not dry at all. Pickles added a ton of texture another depth; sweet, salty, bit of tang. Fan Tuan always good, I usually opt to add both eggs and pickles. But if I'm not feeling too hungry I could go without egg. Green Onion Pastry -pastry is flaky and buttery. Filling was a bit saltier than I expected but good. Ham& Radish Pastry - pastry was also flaky and buttery. Filling wasn't my favorite, radish was quite tough and fibrous. Sweet Baked Sesame Pastry -perfect for kids, filling is just sugar and some sort of flour they mix with it. Surprisingly not too sweet.

*** Still cash only ***…read more It is crazy that Huge Tree Pastry continues to be one of the very few options for Taiwanese breakfast in the SGV (San Gabriel Valley) area other than Yi Mei and Yung Ho Cafe. [Parking]: Easy and free strip mall parking on a Sunday morning. [Ordering]: Most customers come here for takeout despite this restaurant having dine-in tables. Our party ordered takeout in person and waited approximately 15 minutes. The lady cashier (owner?) was a bit intense but efficient. She spoke both fluent English and Mandarin. [Menu]: Stick with Yelp's top highlighted items - Salty Fan Tuan (Stuffed Sticky Rice Roll), Pan Fried Green Onion Pancake, Sweet Soybean Milk, and Radish Cake. For Salty Fan Tuan, I highly recommend maxing out all add-ons including paying extra for purple rice, egg, and pickles (Taiwanese pickled mustard greens). The same goes for pan-fried green onion pancake and adding egg. For an authentic Taiwanese breakfast experience, order Taiwanese donut (you tiao) and baked sesame bread, but expect a somewhat boring flavor profile if you decide to order either Taiwanese donut (you tiao) or baked sesame bread. *** Hot Sweet Soybean Milk (16 oz small - $2.95): Somehow the drink tasted more like unsweetened soybean milk. It was piping hot so our party had to wait 30+ minutes before drinking it. Salty Fan Tuan ($5.50 + Purple Rice $0.45 + Add Eggs & Pickles aka Taiwanese pickled mustard greens $2.00): Excellent salty fan tuan and very satisfying. Pan Fried Green Onion Pancake ($5.50 + Add Eggs $2): A savory pancake and I enjoyed this order. Ham & radish pastry ($2.25): It was cold and tasted alright - not an item I would recommend. *** Still a solid 3.5-star on food after more than a decade since my last review. It is no famous Fuhang Soy Milk from Taipei, but this is the next best experience you will get for Taiwanese breakfast given the limited Taiwanese breakfast options in Southern California.

Big flavor, pork was seasoned well and bbq sauce was a nice touch in the eggs. Potatoes were also on point! House French toast - almost as good as the cinnamon French toast, it has the crunch, flavor and doesn't require any syrup, already sweet as it is! Chicken sandwich - juicy, tangy, not spicy for me (got a level 2 of 4, I think) but if you like flavor, it has it all. But this one deserves a bit more detail for the 3 stars. We came here at my husband's cravings for eggs Benedict for his birthday brunch. It was a Saturday around 1PM. There were crowds, but it didn't feel overwhelmingly busy. I will say they seemed well staffed, which made service feel prompt and welcomed. Everyone in the team appeared friendly. The person who made our lattes also made an effort to clarify our order (lattes with Oatmilk with cream foam - which u know can be confusing. I'm giving up whole milk for the fats and lactose, but a little bit of cream won't hurt). We chose Mari Vees over other nearby spots mainly because of the style and ambiance, which truly delivered... beautiful, modern, and inviting on Yelp. We ordered the iced Spanish latte, iced matcha latte, classic eggs Benedict, and chilaquiles with beef. As soon as the plates landed on our table, before we even had a chance to taste anything, a well-dressed gentleman (who seemed more senior than the rest of the staff) came over and asked how everything was. We felt compelled to give the automatic "everything is good." To be fair, the flavors did hit the spot. The lattes were yummy (and shoutout to the cute aesthetics), the chilaquiles were perfectly savory, and the sauce on the eggs Benedict was rich and creamy. However, the reason this lands at 3 stars is the eggs Benedict itself. The poached eggs were overcooked. Poached eggs should be runny and creamy, not firm. We brought this up to our server, Jeremiah, but he responded that it was "poached hard." I was confused... was that intentional? I checked the menu again (good thing I take pictures), and it simply says "poached eggs." Later, when we were paying, the same gentleman returned, who I inquired and learned goes by the name, Victor. This time, he didn't ask about our experience, but I knew I had to say something. I shared praise along with a lighthearted and humorous question about the overcooked eggs. He admitted they should be runny and said "we should have told them"... BUT WE DID! I debated addressing it in person versus sharing here on Yelp. Unfortunately, it felt like the team wasn't equipped to properly handle feedback. Instead of acknowledging the issue, we felt dismissed and gaslighted. I still gave a 18% tip (our total was $60+) , slight lower than our usual 20%... but I know everyone works hard in there. Overall, it had the potential to be a great experience, but the mishap left a sour note and pretty much ruined our afternoon. Not sure we'll be back.
