My wife owns a rental property in Mill Valley. We live in Los Angeles. She lived in this house for many years; she takes every square inch very seriously. Her tenants let us know there was kitchen floor damage, the result of water leaking out of a washing machine over a period of possibly several months. The damage was real and there was time pressure to get everything handled quickly -- young children in the house, Christmas approaching, etc. I volunteered to help get this organized for my wife. I found Richmond Tile Solutions on Yelp -- they get great reviews -- and I contacted Lulu right away (and a few others). We were impressed from the start with Lulu's diligence. She went right over to the house, took measurements, gave us several options, picked out the flooring -- and then got it all installed. Every step of the way, she was great with the tenant -- and great with us. Most of our conversations took place over WhatsApp, so we could "see" via video conferencing, Lulu, the floor, the cabinets where the washer/dryer would go, etc. There were a lot of moving pieces: moving a washer and dryer out, and then back in; working with another contractor to get the floor dried out; choosing the flooring material; installing a pan beneath the washer so if this happens again, the water will drain to outside the house; getting the new flooring installed; reconnecting the water, electricity, gas and ventilation; putting the cabinets back in place; etc. We haven't yet seen the actual work, performed by Heber (Lulu's partner) and his team, but the tenants say everything looks great, so that makes us happy. We had two shower stalls completely retile and new hardware installed. Lulu was very helpful in the estimate process and their price was the in between the 3 tile companies I had quote the job. It took a little over 2 weeks to do both showers and they recommend a really good plumber for an unexpected bit of work needed. Afterwards there were some issues with one of the showers grout coming up, which needed to be fixed by Heber and his crew. They had to come back three times but to their cred ultimately fixed the problem at no additional charge. I had a very small job that just required cutting 4 tiles for a patio tabletop. Lulu was so helpful and accommodating! It took a while for the tile I ordered to arrive (from Home Depot); but once it did I contacted Lulu and Heber came out the next day. He cut the tiles perfectly, even carefully salvaging one that was cracked in shipping and I was sure was trash. They were also both very warm and down to earth. I was recommended by a friend to use this company to redo my kitchen floor. I thought they were good at responding, however it took them a very long time for a price quote. Heber and another worker came to the place and looked over every detail. We waited for a while and made all the arrangements for the floor work. We took time off, we had parking available, and we even had our area cleared and cleaned. We made it as easy for the company as possible to redo a small floor area. We planned for months for a job that I was quoted would take 3-4 days. Come the exact day of the work, Heber looked over at the flooring and changed the plans as he speaks it over with Lulu (manager). This was a bit strange since he had already seen these floors before and never mentioned any problems. He believed that we didn't have to do a demolition of the old floors at all and that we will simply put on the new flooring over it. I'm not a professional and I don't know how this all works, but for less labor I was still given a hefty charge for labor - Lulu decided to deduct only 1/4 percent of the labor work costs. There was no breakdown of the cost of the jobs so there was no real number to see. She is sly about the cost so she can adjust anything she wanted without us knowing why. I can't argue and claim that the floors had to be demolished. I assume they would be doing what they need to do at customer's best interest. We had no demolition, dumping, or grout involved, yet the pricing was pretty steady. I felt we were given no choice at this moment since we were starting the work. It took them a little over half a day, and the floors were complete. Yet Lulu decided that because they would have to come out for work on our shower door (a project that was already discussed and in writing that would be worked on during the 3-4 day time frame), she wants to charge an extra $200 for an extra day of work (this was also decided to be added on because our shower door would arrive 1 day later than expected). Mind you, they finished the floors during the first day of work. She never said it would be extra to come out the second or third or forth day, so I don't quite understand the sudden change in pricing for coming out for one day. If anything, they finished the work earlier than expected and now have an extra 3 days to do whatever they wanted with other customers. Digging for more money is not a good sign. My husband and I thought it over and decided that we don't want the shower door work since this is now out of our price range. We had told Lulu we decided against the work - and within a short time frame, she goes back and changes her mind to take off the $200 extra charge. By the point, I don't want to have anything to do with Richmond Tile Solutions. We were considering using them again, but after this experience, we cannot recommend them to anyone. What kind of business changes plans with reduced labor, takes advantage of the situation since we really can't kick them out of doing floors we had planned for months, and then trying to charge extra for work that was already discussed in writing. I wanted this to be swiftly done. We didn't fight back on the high labor pricing thinking they would actually be great at what they do. I am fully disappointed at the work that went into this. We could still feel the old floors underneath wobble since they were never secured. A thin membrane separates the two floorings, but I guess this is what we have to live with. It will be too much to spend, and to plan in order to do this all over again. read more

Couldn't be happier with the work that Heber and his crew did for our home in Novato. They replaced ratty, worn and ugly exterior carpet on our front porch with some amazing black slate. The transformation is incredible and the work and thought put into the project by Heber is astounding. ALSO - after they finished we got pummelled by rain, and even though the porch was protected by plastic, the unusually strong winds pulled the plastic down. Even though I'd already paid Heber and his team, they still offered to come back and check it out/repair the spots that got rain water while the grout was drying. The team also did an incredible job on our kitchen backsplash, with counter to ceiling subway tile. Our house is 50+ years old with nothing plum at all - and the end result is fantastic. We hired RTS for a demo and re-tiling of the cracked floor of our small shower. Lulu and Heber came over to check on the project and provided us options and a reasonable estimate for what we needed done. Lulu handled the project scope and contract. I needed a repair to my bamboo floor. Due to HOA restrictions, my work time window wasn't very big but Lulu was able to schedule the job quickly. Heber worked very hard to make the repair and did a beautiful job.
