Being new to town and moving into a new house, I needed it re-keyed. I had a bad experience in New Orleans with a locksmith, and not knowing anyone here to get a word-of-mouth recommendation, I of course went to Yelp where I found Ron's Richmond Ave Locksmith. This is basically a one-man operation: you get Ron, the man himself, to come out to your place. I found him very personable and knowledgeable. (All of my tools were in the moving van, so Ron even loaned me a hex screwdriver to put my Texas plates on my car!) I basically needed all the door locks switched. On the phone consult prior to his visit, he recommended that some hardware be replaced. His advice was for me to go to Lowe's/Home Depot and pick out the style I wanted beforehand and buy it. I was able to get what I wanted that way, and he installed them. Having the parts on hand did make it easier and quicker for him to install. However, he could have brought his own hardware and perhaps charged a mark-up but clearly his focus is on the customer being happy. He was on-time, quick, and efficient. He was able to troubleshoot a problem that another locksmith might have had to "come back later" for. He also gave me advice on several other lock/security features which not only has made me feel more secure but has made my life easier. And no, I'm not going to tell you what those are! I used Yelp to research the inner loop locksmiths, then used the BBB site to review the highest-rated businesses. After that, I called around for phone estimates. This site was not on BBB. However, Ron, the owner of this small business answered the phone, explained how I could research him and others on the DPS site, and advised me to text him 2 photos of each of my locks. After I did that, he spent almost 30 min on the phone explaining his recommendations and scheduling an appointment for the following day. At the actual appointment with my partner as I was away, he spent about an hour fixing our locks - including one on a pair of French doors that was no longer fitting properly because one door was higher than the other, which now works smoothly - and chatting about his recommendations and reasoning.
