The company responded promptly with a very thoughtful, courteous, and knowledgeable fellow, apparently a contractor to Howard safe and Lock. I was happy about that because my front door was not secure and I was about to go out of town for an extended period of time. The lockset on my narrow stile door is not a garden variety lock and has many variations and nuances. The locksmith was puzzled from the get-go and when I offered some advice, he welcomed my input. I am technically capable and had worked on the lockset before. Regrettably, he did not follow my guidance on how to complete one of the tasks in the reassembly process and as a consequence, one tiny screw could not be installed. The holes were slightly misaligned. So he just left it out. The lock worked and was safe, but the cover plate would bind on the jam. To his credit, he told me about it and gave me the screw. After he left, I disassembled the lock to the point of being able to make the adjustments necessary so that the screw could be installed and then reassembled everything. The main plus was that he came out right away and brought the replacement lock components that I could not obtain locally and got my lock functional within hours. Had I been able to buy the part myself I would have done the work myself. I'm pleased with everything, even considering that I had to redo some of it. I think it is unreasonable to expect any particular locksmith to know the nuances of every possible lock, especially unusual / exotic ones, so I'm OK with it and will call Howard again if I find myself in a bind. read more

Wow! I am amazed by the customer service. They even answered my call on the weekend when I had a question about if I needed an appointment or not. The locksmith is so knowledgeable about safes, I sent him a photo of my safe that I couldn't remember the passcode to (but I still have the key) and he was able to look up my combination just with my serial number! It ended up being pricier than I initially expected but I guess it's because of the type of safe I have, and the company charges them a lot for my combination, so makes sense that they need to make a profit of course. You know how much of a pain in the butt it is to try and get a spare key for a freaking Infiniti? It's a whole lotta pain in the butt!! I called a couple of local infiniti dealerships to ask them how much it would cost just to cut and program a new key fob and both places told me that they couldn't just cut and program a key fob that I'm providing; but instead, I'd have to buy the key fob from them that they will program for me. The cost? Well over $350 FOR ONE!!! Thanks, but no thanks! So what did I do? Step 1: Buy new key fobs from eBay. Cost? $120 for two key fobs. Step 2: Use Yelp to get quotes from multiple locksmiths with stellar ratings. Step 3: Win. Howard Safe & Lock was one of several locksmiths I'd sent a message to through Yelp. Although all the locksmiths impressively replied to me within five minutes (seriously!!!) I decided to go to Howard Safe & Lock. Why? (1) Lowest cost if I were to come in to their shop but not to have them come out to me. Although the next lowest was only about $15 (per key) more to have them come out to me, Howard Safe & Lock is pretty conveniently located from my work and is within walking distance to Hughie's Heights and Fusion Taco so I figured I could stop by here when I'm doing lunch. (2) They have stellar five stars rating from 27 reviews on Yelp and 4.8 stars rating on Google from 77 reviews. Although the other locksmith also had a excellent ratings on both Yelp and Google, the $30 savings from going to Howard would pay for my lunch. So as I was planning, I made my way out here during lunch time. When I arrived at the shop, however, I was told that the person who gave me the quote (Liran V.) was currently out and that he had the programmer for the keys with him. I was told that he'd be back in around 45 minutes. No worries, as I stated above, I was planning on having lunch anyway so I walked to Fusion Tacos to wait. When I came back to the shop, Liran still hadn't returned so I waited a bit. Not ten minutes later he came in and started working on the keys. After he had programmed and cut the new key fobs, he asked me to go ahead and test them out. I did to make sure that the key fobs will remotely lock and unlock the doors and to open the trunk as well. No problems there. And then I tried the key to manually lock and unlock the glove box - no go here. So I went back inside and told Liran and he quickly fixed the issue. Once I was satisfied with my new key fobs, then I proceeded to pay for programming and cutting. After everything's said and done, I have two spare key fobs for less than the cost of one from the dealership!! I had used this business before for my house, car and business. I recently passed by the store to get quotes for changing locks in my new home. I made an appointment and they arrived on time. The total time was 1 hour and 45 minutes. I paid 443.00 for service fees only, because I did not purchase anything. I had my front door lock changed and two knobs rekeyed. I feel the charge was outrageous. I called to make a complaint for improper charges and was told it was correct. I was charged 275.00 to install my front door knob and lock, and 135.00 to rekey two existing door knobs. I called and made a complaint and was told it was correct. The owner offered to wave a fee but I didn't call for charity. I called because I felt I was overcharged. read more
