Saturday, January 24th, 2026 at approx. 4:30 PM Waitress: Liliana (Lily) OVERVIEW: Was on the way back to Stockton from Jackson and wanted some old-school steak & eggs from an old-school diner. Will probably come again someday, but not in any rush to do so. PROS: - Nice old-school diner atmosphere, with old-school menu choices & lots of old-school customers. - Excellent parking - Unlike other corporate-backed diners with high overheads, this venue is adequately staffed to keep the flow of business moving. - Friendly staff & clean bathrooms CONS: - Paper plates & plastic forks? RU Kidding? Lily said that their washing machine was broken, thus the paper & plastic. But having my meal served in this manner really ruined the general vibe of my dinner. - The portions were good. But the flavor was just OK. It felt like the general food experience didn't match the level of the nostalgic atmosphere of the interior. SUMMARY: If you want to enjoy the old Americana dining atmosphere, (something that is disappearing in this age of inflation) this place is definitely a nugget. We had great service at Richmaid restaurant. We had a large party (there were 10 of us) and our server Lily was very attentive and helpful. The restaurant's ambiance is old school diner, which makes sense because I heard they've been open since the 1930's! They have a diner area and then an additional room where we sat, and it would be a great place for a larger get together. Plenty of parking and lots of menu options. The reason for my two star rating was the food...I'd heard great things and had pretty high expectations, but the food didn't live up to the hype. I chose the pot roast, which in hindsight may have been a bad decision. The menu says it's "available until it's gone for the day", so I expected a homemade pot roast. I'm 99.9% certain it was actually beef from a can. Speaking of cans, also pretty sure the gravy was from a can too. Everything was very, very salty. I paid an extra $3 to have one of my sides be onion rings, but they were very soggy and the flavor was just off. With their dinners, you get a soup or salad, your entree with choice of two sides, and ice cream for dessert. The salad was iceberg lettuce, carrots, and beets with ranch and honestly, it was the best thing I ate. Maybe it was an off day in the kitchen, maybe I chose the wrong menu item...either way, it was really bad. I am however thankful for the good service! read more

We dined in for breakfast while we were in Lodi. This long standing locally owned family diner started as a creamery in the 1930's and all these years later is this family run diner. It was cool to visit and dine in a piece of Lodi's history. The diner judging from the photos on the counter hasn't changed over the years. We were greeted as we entered and seated promptly in a corner booth and given our coffees and a moment to look over their menu. They had something for everyone. We ordered their chicken and waffles and a ham steak with scrambled eggs and country potatoes. Both were delicious and we had leftovers. Their prices to portion ratio were just right and service was spot on! We would definitely return the next time we're in Lodi. read more

We enjoy the food here, today we were there 40 minutes before closing and they would not let us dine with them, went down the street and were served both say they close at 2pm. Richmaid did not serve us, we will not return to an establishment that changes their hours when their employees wont comply to the hours posted. read more

Richmaid Restaurant is a hidden gem! The fried chicken was incredibly juicy and flavorful! Definitely not dry at all. We ordered the chicken and waffles plus a side of biscuits and gravy, and everything was so delicious. You can really taste the love in the food. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and it's a family-owned business! Highly recommend supporting them and enjoying some amazing food! read more

My grandparents lived in Lodi when I was a child - I was actually born there, and I remember Richmaid ice cream! 72 year later, I was with my son & saw that there is a Richmaid Restaurant, so had to check it out! It's such a cute place with that 50's vibe. The service was great and the food was delicious! We had lunch & I had the Beer Battered Cod from the senior menu, which was delicious. The portions were HUGE and came with soup or salad, another side (I had coleslaw) and ICE CREAM! A super bargain for under $20! Everything on the menu looked so good, that we got some broasted chicken to take home. I also took home a slice of peach pie. This is the kind of food I remember from my childhood and is the best of everything! So many calories, but amazingly delicious! I'll definitely return for another round! read more

I give Richmaid three out of five stars. The food for the most part is pretty good. But I redact two stars because of some things that bother me and are a bit of a hassle. Every time I make a to go order, I have to ask for them to lay the paper down in the styrofoam clamshell, but if I don't ask them, they don't put it down. See my photo of the fish and chips. Deep fried food straight out of the fryer and onto the styrofoam. Fish with a side of burnt petrochemicals. Yum. It's been like this with every dish I've ordered. The paper that they do use, has print on it advertising their broasters chicken. The problem here is that the print transfers onto the food. Nothing like a full color broasters logo on your fish. If you go for the fresh fruit as a side, you will get a small cup of that typical medley of melon and grapes, but they're not fresh. The juice is drained out and has pooled at the bottom of the cup. And you've all had old melon. The side of fresh veggies are a mix of veggies that may vary from day to day, but they cook them with onions instead of butter, which doesn't really go with the flavor profile of the veggies to me. I just want a healthy alternative to french fries. That's what every restaurant gives you as a side. Other than that they do seem to be good at getting your order right for the most part, and they are quite friendly. read more

It was our first time going here. A few of our friends have told us about it and that we need to their fried chicken. We decided to go for breakfast. It is located in an ok area of Lodi. The parking is decent. The restaurant kind of reminds me of like a Mel's Diner. The service was very good. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Our breakfast was very good. Twice! If you are in Lodi- get the chicken! Golden crispy and delicious -and, not fried! They have great carrot raisin salad, borscht, and clam chowder. I think you cannot make a poor choice at this local eatery. read more

Came about a year ago to have their famous broasted chicken, we waited awhile to get our food. The chicken was cold and soggy and tasted like it's been sitting for a while. So we come back a year later to give it a second try. We waited outside to get seated, then when seated we're just waiting for someone to take our order. We see the waiters and waitresses just pass us a few times while we notice they're taking oth peoples orders that came after us. Nothings changed. The service is still bad. Will not go back ever again. Very disappointed. read more

I haven't been to the maid in several months and it's always been a pleasure to be there Today I got the roasted chicken dinner to go and it did not disappoint as usual It's inexpensive compared to all the other high-end restaurants out there and the food is absolutely amazing The menu is got a large variety of really good home-cooked type food I definitely recommend this restaurant for anybody for a good home-cooked casual meal read more

I have been to this restaurant a few times with family in the last 9 months and with mixed feelings about it. The place is small and friendly. The servers are a little friendly but could be a little more attentive but the place does get a tad busy. So now for the food, the tri-tip is dry, regarding the coffee, it's been said that McDonalds coffee is better. When you order some things like fruit, some people get the good and others don't. Not sure why. My potatoes always come to me a little burned. The only thing I personally haven't tried is their famous chicken. So, come on over. Try it out and tell me what you think. read more

We order chicken here on a regular basis and it's very good. The only problem I have is in the to go packaging....my honey only eats breast meat and it's placed upside down (in order to fit) in the styrofoam box. When I get home the breast is soggy :(( If you had another form of packaging and could place it on its back bone that would solve the problem. Thnx bcz I want to continue ordering my brined broasted chicken to go from here. read more

Richmaid was recommended by a family member who lives nearby. We visited for breakfast and were immediately greeted and taken to a table. This family business definitely adds to the small town vibe and it's like stepping back in time as the ambience and decor lend itself to a time long since past. We had a great experience. Food was fantastic, and we were tended to frequently to see if our needs were met. Would definitely return to try some of the other menu options. read more

Richmaid Restaurant. When you walk in you are greeted by Betty Boop. The decor is 50-60's. A lot of vintage pictures and ads. Restaurant gets a lot of business, many of the patrons are recognized by the staff and personally greeted. I found service to above average, your coffee cup is kept full. I've ordered the Denver omelette (several times), and a two egg special once when I was not real hungry. Everything has been tasteful and was prepared and served in a timely manner. The restaurant does charge a credit card use fee. Seems to be the way of restaurants now. But overall, I am completely satisfied with this establishment. read more

From the outside the place doesn't look like too much, but they have great food!! When we went the whole staff from the host, to the server, to the one who delivers the food were all so sweet and friendly. The food tastes like a nice home cooked meal with the chicken fried steak and the pot roast being our favorites. The gravy is flavorful and the pot roast meat was nice and tender. Home-Style Foods. Just like mom used to make. All of our sauces, gravys, mashed potatos, carrot salad and dishes are home-made. We bake off fresh turkey, pot roast and meatloaf daily. We buy local meats like our country sausage and bratwurst. What can get better then that? Everything is made with an extra touch of goodness. Even though we no longer carry "richmaid" icecream, it is still the best around and we make a mean banana split. (No to mention our home-made bread pudding)

History

Established in 1938.

Richmaid was originally opened in 1938 as a creamery. They made and exported ice cream through the years. It was also the Lodi hot spot for teens throughout the years. The above banquet room held many weddings and receptions for many customers that still frequent the place today. The creamary closed down many years ago and many restaurants have tried to be succesful throughout the years. The current owners, Gary & Janet Crow, bought the building from the Hansen family in 1998 and have ran a successful Home-style diner since.

Janet has been in food service for the last 25 years. Many of you remember her as a waitress from Carrows. Her husband gary has been in food service as well for many many years. He started out opening "Happy Steak" restaurants throughout the valley. Over the years he has also worked in food distribution for many local companies. Together they decided that they knew what it took to run their own restaurant and opened the Richmaid in 1998. This was a great adventure for them and their 3 children that proved to be successful over the past 11 years. Today the entire family works there. A true example of a FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED Restaurant!

My husband enjoyed his dinner. My chicken Parmesan was okay. It did not taste like freshly breaded but more like pre frozen entree. I would not order it again. We were there for quite awhile. We saw friends go in after us and leave before us due to our slow service. I almost felt like they forgot about us outside. I love market tavern in Stockton and have always had great service and food there. Maybe this was just an off night. I will definitely come back and give them a chance to improve this so-so Yelp rating. I will definitely request to be seated inside!

That was probably the most irritating.

The steak was a little too dry and under seasoned to my husband's liking. He always orders medium-well, but it was more well. I did agree that it didn't have much flavor.
