Other than for the purposes of getting keys duplicated or having locks similarly keyed, going to a locksmith can be quite dreadful, albeit necessary. That is because, as most of us know, going to a locksmith can be quite costly. It is that way, I believe, because locksmithing is a profession that requires specialized training, licensure, and insurance. This past week I had a need to have a duplicate "smart key" fob programmed to my recently purchased new, used vehicle that came with only one fob. Against my better judgment and with the hope of saving some money, I purchased a "ready to be programmed" fob off of a popular auction website. The fob itself was noticeably lighter than the OEM fob and was considerably cheaper; like $175 cheaper. Anyhoo, I took my Chinese-made, reverse-engineered fob to Advanced Locksmith to have it programmed. Before going, I called a received a quote from Gage one of the shop's technicians. Upon my arrival, Gage promptly went to work! While in the process of attempting the programming, and after the programming failed, Gage involved another technician, Nebiat. As the efforts to program my fob met with additional failed attempts, Nebiat and Gage explained one of the pitfalls with purchasing fobs over non-OEM websites is, that sometimes the fobs are locked from being previously programmed and therefore not usable. Much to my dismay, I believed my fob to be just such a fob. With that, Nebiat offered a new fob purchase from Advanced Locksmith. One that Nebiat assured me would accept the programming. Of course, purchasing this new fob would be expensive and I was not looking forward to having to pay so much money on such short notice. Nebiat was very understanding and was kind enough to offer the fob at a discount, for my being a veteran of the armed forces. I was prepared to purchase the new fob when Nebiat offered to try the programming of my Chinese-made fob once more. As he attempted the programming, he recognized the problem to be with my truck having already programmed into its memory, the maximum number of fobs. Nebiat was then able to clear the computer's memory of programmed fobs and successfully program my cheaper fob! Yaaay!!! I was elated and grateful for Nebiat's willingness to go the extra mile and put customer service over profit. Services were over priced, on top of this the dispatcher was rude. The workers themselves came off very pompous, and I didn't feel safe with them near my belongings. No one was professional at all and i felt beyond disrespected with the workers. Even after being warned by people that I might get scammed or mistreated even if I'm paying for services, I thought I should give some benefit of the doubt. Great locksmith. He's very professional, friendly, and fast. He doesn't have all the fees like big companies. He was at my house in 15 minutes and unlocked it in 30 seconds. I got 2 spare keys to unlock my car door, 2 spare keys for my daughters jeep to unlock her doors and my car unlocked because I locked the keys in the car with the ignition running... Price was fair. They came out to my house to make repair on my car the key would not unlock the Dr he removed the lock in the Dr and found a bad pin in the lock he removed it and did not replace it, he said it was the 1st pin in the cylinder and said the key would still work without that pin being in there, and it still works, he charged my card gave me a receipt. I didn't look at the receipt until the next day. I called the office and told them they needed to credit my card the tax that they charged, that there is no tax on labor in the state of Texas, the person at the office said they had to use parts on my repair that they had to replace the pin in the cylinder, I told him they did not have to replace the pin I watched the repairman remove the old pin, and the repairman told me that being that it was the very first pin in the cylinder that the key would still work without that pin being in there. So they credit my account back the tax that they charged. I gave them three stars because of this reason. I will use them again. read more
