That is because, as most of us know, going to a locksmith can be quite costly. It is that way, I believe, because locksmithing is a profession that requires specialized training, licensure, and insurance. This past week I had a need to have a duplicate "smart key" fob programmed to my recently purchased new, used vehicle that came with only one fob. Against my better judgment and with the hope of saving some money, I purchased a "ready to be programmed" fob off of a popular auction website. The fob itself was noticeably lighter than the OEM fob and was considerably cheaper; like $175 cheaper. Anyhoo, I took my Chinese-made, reverse-engineered fob to Advanced Locksmith to have it programmed. Before going, I called a received a quote from Gage one of the shop's technicians. Upon my arrival, Gage promptly went to work! While in the process of attempting the programming, and after the programming failed, Gage involved another technician, Nebiat. As the efforts to program my fob met with additional failed attempts, Nebiat and Gage explained one of the pitfalls with purchasing fobs over non-OEM websites is, that sometimes the fobs are locked from being previously programmed and therefore not usable. Much to my dismay, I believed my fob to be just such a fob. With that, Nebiat offered a new fob purchase from Advanced Locksmith. One that Nebiat assured me would accept the programming. Of course, purchasing this new fob would be expensive and I was not looking forward to having to pay so much money on such short notice. Nebiat was very understanding and was kind enough to offer the fob at a discount, for my being a veteran of the armed forces. I was prepared to purchase the new fob when Nebiat offered to try the programming of my Chinese-made fob once more. As he attempted the programming, he recognized the problem to be with my truck having already programmed into its memory, the maximum number of fobs. Nebiat was then able to clear the computer's memory of programmed fobs and successfully program my cheaper fob! Yaaay!!! I was elated and grateful for Nebiat's willingness to go the extra mile and put customer service over profit. Thank you Nebiat and thank you Nebiat and Gage for giving me a great customer experience to share on this platform with my fellow Yelp*ers!! He left the truck in worse shape than he found it (left the ignition molding off, lost the fuse removal tool, and damaged the electrical system such that it would no longer hold a fuse on one circuit). He then became irrate, demanding the full amount he would normally charge for a replacement key and stated a new key could not be made until the cigarette lighter was repaired. A second locksmith, highly regarded, as well as the Ford dealership, also said they could not program a new transponder key without fixing the lighter. However, the second locksmith who came out at least did not charge anything. The third locksmith who came out had my new transponder key programmed within 20 minutes WITHOUT the lighter being fixed - and at a fraction of the cost quoted to me by the first two locksmiths. Roy will be very friendly, and I'm sure if there are no complications he can get you into your vehicle fine. But his range of knowledge is limited, and he doesn't have a strong grasp on customer service when things become dicey. If you have a simple, clear cut situation, Roy might be able to help you. For advanced issues, skip this one and find someone who is more than a key cutter.
