After receiving a few repair bids from door companies on the locking mechanism on our old, unusual french doors, one bid being $2400, it took Michael 60 SECONDS to figure out the lock. It was not broken at all. He is SO smart and told us that his company is well known for having rare parts that no one else in Dallas has. We look forward to working with him again -- hopefully on a big fun project. And this time we will be able to pay him! (He refused payment!) I install storm doors, and I had to customize a threshold. Called many companies to try to find a threshold, but this company went through the inventory, custom cut me a threshold. It fit perfectly! Called two weeks ago for an estimate to replace an exterior door. Said they were so busy they couldn't get here until two weeks later. Today is the day and they are a no-call no-show. I called their office and the voicemail message said they don't open until 10. Definitely would not recommend if your time is valuable. Richardson Door was recommended to me. I contacted them in November to replace my french doors. The gentlemen that came out to measure were great. I waited a few weeks for a bid. When the bid arrived, I called three times to ask a few questions. I never received a call back until today, over a month later, when someone called and asked if I was still interested!! I could not go with a company that has such poor follow up. I anticipated too many problems if the initial response is so poor. Too bad, because I was told they do good work. read more

We had a door that wasn't acting right. I telephoned Richardson door and they sent a technician out the next day. The following day, Matt telephoned and said he would be here in about 30 minutes. He was able to fix our door and get it back to like new operation. The price was reasonable. Doors can be difficult to adjust. Matt had the skill and the tools to fix our door. read more

Customer service is horrible. I scheduled an appointment to change the weather stripping on the door. The person on the phone didn't bother asking questions, so when they showed up, it turned out that the door is not standard, and they needed special materials to fix it. OK... When I called to reschedule, I asked if they could come in the morning, and she said that it would be no problem. When nobody showed up on time I called back and was told that the technician took a different job and could show up in my house in the afternoon. So they don't care about my time at all. I was also told that if I'm not happy I can contact someone else. And that's exactly what I will do! By the way, I was a loyal customer of the Richardson Door for years despite a couple of not so well done jobs. Oh well.... Terrible customer service. read more

As I use the front door more, I realize I'm even more unhappy that Richardson Door and Hardware did not put the traditional weather stripping I wanted on my door. The "modern" exterior stripping they chose and insisted on using interferes with my accessing the lock and being able to open the door from the outside. The weather stripping they put on the exterior is simply in the way, and makes it difficult to operate the key and lock. read more

A very honest and trustworthy shop who gives itemized quotes and breaks everything down individually so it's very easy to understand so there is no complications. Made appointment to have them replace weatherstripping on front door. When they got to the house, I was quoted 89.95 for that BUT was also told there was a $150.00 Trip Charge. HAD I known that - i would have hired a handyman. Was never informed of the $150 Service Charge which they said was for set up time, travel time, etc. This did not go towards any work they did. Just think they should be UPFRONT about this charge - PLUS $150 is Ridiculously high!! Plumbers, electricians don't charge this high a service charge. Just be aware. They did a good job of weatherstripping, but total cost was high if you factor in $150. If I didn't have other workers coming to do additional work, so I was in a time crunch, I wouldn't have had them do the weatherstripping. read more

Mike said we have been more than fair by coming to your house 3 times. You would not have to come three times if the issue were fixed the first time. I ask for a refund for the threshold, door jams and seal that were installed but were not required based on the subsequent visits which focused solely on the strike plate. Mike replied, "No, because the parts were installed." Not needed though. :( read more

Matthew did exactly everything they said they would do, from calling to say he was on the way, to doing the work requested, and asking if there was anything else we needed done, to thanking me for my business. Thoroughly Disappointed. Matthew the technician is great, but he should be working his own company. The owner/manager never provided a written quote, only a quote by phone. Lots of promises that turned out to be empty. Half way through the actual repairs (during a home renovation), they presented a written quote 50% higher than what was agreed upon. They would not discuss the matter, negotiate or attempt to resolve it. The repair team actually walked off the job and never returned. It was 3 days before the owner even called to demand full payment! 5 weeks later, all other work on the home is complete except what Richardson Door abandoned. Now it will cost 3x more for another contractor to tear out walls and trim to complete their work and I will have to pursue legal recourse. There are other options in town. If you use Richardson Door, get it in writing, SIGNED by them in advance, use a proper contract with recourse for failure to complete work and pray. You've been warned. read more
