I find myself coming here more frequently. We have Lowes and Home Depot nearby as well, but Rooster has just about everything they do and it is more convenient in terms of parking and just navigating the store. Prices are a bit higher than at the big box stores, but not so much that it really matters. The cashiers are always friendly and talkative. The store just has a friendly vibe. Best of all, the kid likes to go with me so she can play with the chickens. That feature compensates for higher prices right there. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that the last few times I have been there, the price for an item at the cash register is higher than the shelf price. It is usually only a $1 difference or so, but it is annoying. You think you are getting one price but it turns out it is different. They need to coordinate shelf prices with prices in their database. Other than that, I am a big fan of Rooster and will continue to buy stuff here. read more

I always get great customer service from the staff. While they don't have appliances and other heavy hitting items, they do usually have what I need - gardening supplies, household supplies, and key replacements. It's really fun to shop there. They are a True Value shop, so they can order what they don't have in stock. read more

Our 'go-to' place for hardware and supplies. We always go to Roosters first because the service we receive is always friendly and all the staff are incredibly helpful. I've never encountered this kind of service at the large chains. It's nice to have a neighborhood location which is easy to get to. They have a nice gift area too. This place is GREAT! It has all the hardware and gardening needs you could want. If you want to buy only the one screw or bolt you need, you can. Don't have to buy a hundred. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Clean, inviting building. Kids love the place due to baby chicks and other kid-friendly stuff. I went in to see if they could help me with the little batteries that went into my key lock on my very old Honda. Neither key lock worked, so I was hoping that it was just the batteries. Mark took the time, had to use several screwdrivers to even get the top off, and did find my batteries and replaced both. I was so, so appreciative, since if I had gotten the batteries off of the shelf, chances are, I wouldn't have been able to get the back off to replace them. Rooster Hardware is not your run-of-the-mill hardware store. It's an experience that you will want to return to time and again. The isles are filled with interesting, useful, and functional items that you won't necessarily find in an "Elliotts". The aim is more towards naturalist, conservationist, environmentally friendly and/or inner-city farm oriented tools and supplies, plus they have one section full of great gift ideas, and children's educational items in of the store. If you're into bees, birds, chickens, gardening, lawn maintenance, conservation, Eco friendly supplies and the things that make the environment a better place, THIS is a better place to visit. To the contrary of the Grumps complaining about the store help not being knowledgeable, or friendly, that's not the experience I had while visiting. Amazing neighborhood store for all common and non-common household needs. I shop here for odds and ends for the home and recently purchased a cool fire pit and fire wood for my backyard. One of the best parts of the store is their customer service. The store attendants are always super friendly and helpful. Rooster sells grills, outdoor furniture and even chicken coops and chickens. It's always fun to see the chickens and roosters and adds so much uniqueness to the store. I also recently bought some local Texan products such as candles, jams and salsas for a friend's birthday. Great place to shop local with great customer service and a points loyalty program adds a plus! read more

I love this locally owned hardware store. This is so much more than a hardware store though! They have chickens, a whole supply of gifts, and a wide variety of locally made food products. I always buy my Noble Coyote coffee beans at this location. This is also a fantastic place to stop if you have littles because they usually have baby chicks, and child tolerating chickens in the store. I was at one of our properties we manage nearby and the tenant was complaining that the microwave did not work. I spoke with the appliance repairman and he suggested I look for a fuse he did not have or carry. I went to Rooster's Hardware--I had never been there before and it was like walking into a country store...they had everything from yard art to weather vanes, baby chicks and the like. Moe helped me when I asked him about the screw in fuses. Luckily, I had brought the old one with me and he helped me find the right one! Rooster Hardware feels like home. I love coming here for my home repair needs and projects - they're well stocked and have very helpful staff, always willing to help me find what I need and answer my questions. They also have two aisles of fasteners that are sold individually by the drawer, which is handy if you don't want to to buy a pack of 50 when you just need one or two (unlike some of the bigger stores). They also have chickens and bee keeping items, rain barrel water capture, organic plants - an urban feed store, essentially on top of hardware. One of the other reasons I like to shop here is it definitely feels like a neighborhood store. I can't imagine shopping at one of the big box stores again after 'discovering' this place. read more

This store is unique in that it carries tools, hardware, cleaning products, but also cute gifts, live chicks, and bee keeping items. It is local and those are the businesses I like to support to keep my community thriving. I called over the phone asking for a tool and the gentlemen over the phone was very confident and helpful. Then I went to get it in store and he remembered I called and gave good info/advice on the tool. He also didn't keep the other customer behind me waiting while we were deciding. He was aware of that person and able to politely multi task while serving both of us. It is also refreshing to see a young person be able to have a good, lengthy conversation with a customer. This place is awesome. We bought our first chicks here and regularly come back for supplies or to hang out. The staff are fried and take the time to answer our questions or just to chat. Also, find I get better service and quality at local hardware stores. Always a plus when the people helping are knowledgeable about what they are talking about. I don't appreciate the disrespect my wife and daughter received when they drove for over 45 min to visit and shop. My wife made a special trip with my daughter to purchase some chickens after calling the store and asking what was in stock. The employee flat out said "these went on sale today". She arrived with the intention to purchase several chickens with my daughter. The older employee that was working told my wife that she could not purchase chickens until tomorrow as that is when they were available for sale. That's not the issue here. The issue here is how he acted when she told him she was told they were available today by the guy on the phone. The Issue here is the way he belittled and how rude he was to my wife in front of my daughter. That behavior is unacceptable. To belittle and be rude about the matter is ridiculous. Customer service was quite lacking in this situation. Being short with his answers and having an attitude. Don't worry about apologizing. My wife just wasted over 1 hour of her life to support a local small business only to be treated like crap. Glad she wasted her gas, time, and energy to go spend our hard earned money at a store that didn't have the respect or decency to treat my wife and daughter with respect. I called them asking what chicks were available was told these just went on sale today and the guy listed off what they had. I said ok I will drive up making it very clear that I lived a hour away. Get here and the birds are marked for sale as of 4-2 and they would not sell any to me and expected me to come back the following day. I will never make the drive to this store again after this. The man was also very condescending and rude and did not care what so ever that I just drove a hour to this store. Didn't apologize nor try to make the issue right at all. read more

Wow, things have changed! I shopped at Gecko and then Rooster from the day Gecko opened. Was a loyal customer. It was a friendly store. We moved from the area months ago but was happy to be able to go back today. As I entered the store, a clerk never bothered to say a word or look up from her reading. I asked where an item was that I needed and she didn't even know what it was or offer help. I searched the customer vacant store looking for an item. Finally, I knocked on the office door as I saw 2 employees inside. I asked on my item and was told they didn't have it. ( the older white haired clerk was rather rude in his response) And finally, the chickens had no water or feed and looked miserable. No large fowl rooster or hens should be caged in the small space like parakeets. It's a disgrace. From friendly store to creepy rude store. I won't ever recommend this store again. But, by the lack of any customers in the store, I bet it won't be open long. read more
