I stopped by Ace Hardware in Lakewood with no idea what I was doing trying to install corner bead, and the employees could not have been more helpful or kind! They took the time to explain what I needed, showed me exactly which materials to get, and even gave me some great tips on how to install it. I left feeling confident instead of clueless. It's so nice to go somewhere where people genuinely care and want to help. Highly recommend this location! The prices were also very reasonable. Well, the Slogan "Ace is the Place for your helpful hardware.... Well, you know the slogan. And, well, it does not apply at this location. Visited this morning and ask for some assistance to find an item. The person assisted me...never said a word...walked ahead of me...and we got to the location of the item I wanted to purchase, he just pointed and walked away. I thanked him...but got nothing in return...just silence. I retrieved my item and went to the cashier. She asked me if I had a "phone number" with them, I did not, and she rang up my items. After she handed me my change, I again said, "Thank You, " and again...nothing in response. I again said, Thank You, and again nada. One more time, and again she gave no eye contact, just stared ahead, I iterated my, "Thank You." Nothing. So, I said, you know, USUALLY, when people say, "Thank You," the custom response is, "You're Welcome." Nothing, her eyes did not move from her straight-ahead stare. So...never, ever again would I shop at this ACE. And, frankly, given they're the highest priced hardware stores in America, I'll go somewhere else. If you liked to be ignored, well, ACE is the place. My wife and I just had the worst experience at our local hardware store, Ace Hardware, AKA, Lakewood Hardware. The store is great if you know exactly what you're looking for but God forbid you should ask somebody for help... Walking in I received the rudest treatment from the first person that I met who turned out to be the manager and then as I walked through the store and spoke to a salesperson he compounded the situation with even worse service. When I asked him a question about an item he asked me if I was kidding and then proceeded to almost rip apart the package in anger to show me how it worked because I was so ignorant. I do not work in a hardware store and I respect the people that do because they are incredibly helpful with items that you need around the house but man, I can tell you I will never shop at the store again as much as I like to try and support local businesses this place has lost mine forever and I will never recommend anybody to go there as I have for the past six years living in Lakewood. Elliott Hardware is just down the street and they have everything that you could look for in a hardware store and more, including excellent service! read more

I HATE this location. LOVE ace hardware but this store consistently gives poor customer service. And usually when Asking an employee for assistance... Such as "please cut me 5 1/2 feet of latex tubing" i'm very polite I give specific directions and I usually come in with a skill when knowing I'm going to have to have something cut for me. I swear over the past three months this is happened every time when I'm asking for something to be cut they tell me about the price and I respond back I don't care what it cost please cut me XYZ... The follow-through is horrible I'm simply asking them to cut some thing so that I can take it to the cashier to pay. Or such as today ask the cashier to have them cut some thing so that I could pay... And every time they always want to talk to me about the price and go back-and-forth back-and-forth and every time I keep asking for them to simply cut some thing. It doesn't matter if you have to charge me for 6 feet if all I want is 5 1/2 I don't care if you charge me for 10 feet I just want you to cut 5 1/2 feet. But for some reason this particular store is in capable of cutting anything other than 4 feet... It's stupidity and poor training, I even called and spoke to the manager in the parking lot hoping that they will be able to understand me and for me to be able to go back in and purchase 5 1/2 feet of a latex tubing. read more

I do not recommend shopping here unless you ONLY plan to shop at this store and not at another or online. They will not return anything unless it's purchased at their physical location. All Ace website/return materials and terms and conditions says that an item can be returned to your closest store, however, Lakewood ACE does not follow that corporate policy and said it's their owner's (who lives in CA) policy to not accept any returns other than what is purchased in their physical retail store. Just a very poor experience in 2020 and a bad hit against their "helpful place" advertising. read more

I like this hardware store. It's near my home in Lakewood and that's a big plus. I've been in 3 times in the last month and each time they had what I wanted. They are well staffed; and someone always steps up to help me find the item/s I'm looking for. So why not 4 stars? Or 5? That rating is reserved for establishments that make me feel important. The place is well organized as soon as you walk in the things you need are well labeled along the aisle easy fast in an out service. The women working there are as helpful as they can be if they cannot assist me they will get someone available who can, I highly recommend in stopping at ACE before heading over to another hardware store, because you will get helpful service right way, and the prices are reasonable never had an issue. This store has moved locations several times and now sits in the shopping center along with The Fresh Market and PetSmart. Its a great new location and the size of the store is much better than any of their other locations with long rows of products and a great layout. The staff is helpful and always willing to offer their help when requested. I've never had any issues with finding something that I need and sometimes come out of there with things I don't need. The store hours, however are limited compared to other hardware stores. I find myself struggling to make it during the weekdays as they close by 6pm. It would be nice if they stayed open until 8pm or so. I end up having to drive further to Home Depot to get things when they are not available. But that is the owner's choice and prerogative. I've been a customer of Lakewood Ace Hardware since 1997, when I moved to the neighborhood. They've usually had what I needed to make small home repairs. They have plenty of floor-walking help that seem to know the stock. The place has never been particularly friendly to cusomers, though, and this week I had three experiences on three different trips with three different employees, the last of which had me walking away without a purchase. Trip #1 a wordless employee walked me to the part I needed and walked off. Trip #2 another wordless employee walked me to the aisle I needed and walked off. I didn't realize Ace Hardware stores exist with all the large super stores. This store is clean, organized and convenient. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One of the best features of a store this size is the ability to get in and out quickly. Since I didn't spend 5 minutes walking to the back of a large conglomerate, I was able to dip in and out with the exact items I wanted in less than 5 minutes. Check out was fast & speedy. Based on a return of a defective humidifier today, I'm so disappointed in this store, which I've visited on and off for 30 years... Today I said plainly, without malice, to the manager, "I want you to take this back and give me my money back". He immediately became defensive, saying, "..A little pushy...", like I didn't present my return properly. I am very disappointed in this store for selling a defective product (fan motor frozen/inoperative) and then trying to insult me when I presented it for return. This defective product wasted an hour of my time, setting it up, finding out it didn't work, then boxing it back up, but all the manager could say to me was, "...a little pushy..." I wish them all the best, thanks for completing the refund, even if unpleasant. Not sure I will go back. read more

I've lived in Lakewood for 25 years and I've supported neighborhood businesses whenever I can, like Ace Hardware. But, Ace's customer service especially at checkout has gone way down. The people behind the counter always seem to be put to take your money. The rude person I dealt with today at checkout brings my shopping days at ACE to an end. I have to say that I was going to give this store 5 stars based on my 1st experience which was on a friday night before closing. I was so glad to see an Ace not far from home. My husband and I were renovating 2 rooms simultaneously. I went in after work and ordered several gallons of paint. The man at the paint counter was very warm and we had a great conversation while waiting on the paint. He even walked me to the car to help me load up. I was so impressed. The next day, Saturday, we needed 1 more gallon of paint and another paint brush so I talked my husband into going with me to ACE. (He's a Home Depot junkie) Of course we were not looking our best as we had been painting all day, but when we walked into Ace, we received some very concerning stares. We walked directly to the paint counter and asked for another gallon, the same nice man was there talking with a customer. Both just stared at us as if we were monsters. It was unnerving. We went to the next aisle over to get a brush and then there is the "customer" following me and actually pushed me to the side to walk in front of me. I looked at my husband and knew that we should leave the store before he got into a confrontation. When we went to check out, both the customer and the paint counter man stood at the door and watched us. At this point, I was angry because I realized that they thought we were going to walk out without paying and I am assuming it is because we weren't dressed up. WE WERE IN A HARDWARE STORE and we were in the middle of painting our house. Now I am completely appalled. I just spent over $250.00 in less than 24 hours in their store. I have shopped at ACE in Farmers Branch for over 10 years and have never experienced this type of behavior. Nor have I ever experienced this type of behavior from anyone in my life. read more
