I ordered something online that I needed. Nowhere online was I made aware that "shipping of online orders means we ship to a store and expect you to pick it up." WHO ORDERS AN ONLINE PURCHASE TO BE SHIPPED FOR PICKUP? The website needs to clarify that they do NOT ship purchases like NORMAL businesses do. Zero stars, cannot recommend. They need to clarify that it ships to store like real stores do. My other online accounts specify if you are having it shipped to a store for pickup or having it shipped to your home. Elliot's does not. I went to the Elliot's Hardware off of Inwood recently to pick up some screws. It was a quick and easy trip that gave me a pleasant surprise. When I was checking out, a young man named Gabriel was taking care of me. He told me how he could save me $5 just for becoming a member and then could earn points over time. I was buying less than $10 worth of screws, so I was glad to share my number to save the $5. He had the most positive, upbeat attitude. Often times, younger generations act disconnected and unhappy. Gabriel was very helpful and made my day better with our interaction. He's a great example of what customer service should be. Great job, Gabriel! Keep it up! read more

Customer Service is not what it used to be at Elliott's! The very young man at the front counter repeatedly stated that they close in fifteen minutes; apparently an explanation for why he wouldn't help me?!?! I needed to find something to Jerry rig for a missing part...nothing extraordinary, but he would not even direct me to the hardware section so I could look for what I needed. I will say there ever since they sold to Ace Hardware if you never quite been saying they have moved twice since they were on Maple Avenue. The thing I like most about the hardware department is that you can go in and buy one screw or one washer and walk out the door without having to buy a pack The people who used to be at Maple Avenue are slowly drifting off. In the other reviews, everybody talks about "it's not what it used to be" and actually, they are correct. I needed a basic washer for the pipe underneath my sink. The one staff member that was on site told me he didn't know anything about plumbing and after he and I looked at the washers in confusion we both agreed it would be best for me to go to Lowe's. I even had the nut so I would know what size washer. I went to Lowe's up the street and the guy in plumbing instantly knew what I needed. Sad-- I guess Elliots had changed since the last time I was there... They no longer have staff to assist you with your questions on products. Elliot's is no longer a family owned business.The Elliott family sold in 2012 to Central Network Retail Group, a Memphis-based company that owns home centers and hardware stores. Called over to see if they had something that I wanted before I drove over to the location. I was transferred to a line that rang,and rang, and no one ever answered. So then I called back and I was put on hold so I drove way over there just to walk in 2 people sitting around chitchatting. since no one ever answered I was shocked to find two people one sitting in a chair and the other one standing at the front desk, Kiki and laughing and having a good time. So I look at both of them as I look at their phone and the lines blinking where someone is on hold because I know we have the same phone at my business and I go that's me on hold right there! As the denied it. They need to be retrained on how to help customers if they don't know something maybe walk around and find out instead of putting people on hold and transferring them to invisible numbers because they don't know where something is. If it wasn't for this nice African American gentleman that showed me around I would have given 1 star. read more

I am changing my review because the store manager called me today, explained that the service I received on Monday was not according to their policy, and asked that I come back and exchange my light for a new one. Since that is what I wanted in the first place, I have to say I am pleased with the outcome. I received a solar yard light as a gift. It doesn't work. I don't have a receipt, as it was a gift. I cannot get a replacement because you have to have the receipt. The manager had the cashier tell me this, because he was apparently too busy standing around (I saw him) to talk to an unhappy customer (me). The cashier was very polite and was just trying to do her job. While I can understand needing a receipt for an exchange or refund of a regular item, I do not agree that a receipt should be needed for something that was given as a gift and is defective. If you can't find what you need here, then you probably didn't need it in the first place. They have customer service only dreamed about in the big box stores. We recently went in to find new hardware for a bathroom remodel. They must have several thousand different drawer pulls and handles. Kimmey helped us find the perfect ones. Overall I am extremely happy with Elliots. Their products may cost a dollar more than the big hardware stores but their customer service is so worth it. They will actually walk down the aisle, help you find items and answer any questions you may have. This applies to any of the stores I have been to. This was a great store and a great company. In pre-Covid days I enjoyed browsing all the interesting and very useful items they had in stock. Also, they had some very knowledgeable, experienced old-timers to help you with your Do-It-Yourself projects. I received some great advice from them and as a result saved a lot of money. But I did not see any of those experts today. They have a sign on the window that masks are required for customers as well as employees. However, Kimmy was the only employee wearing a mask today. So I like to pretend that I'm Miss Handy(wo)man around the house, but I'm not exactly Tim Taylor. I own a toolkit and cordless screwdriver but that's where my handyman's belt stops. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I love Elliott's. I do. I can spend a few hours in there looking around and not notice "the store is closing" announcement. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not drooling over the power tools or gas-powered weed-eaters; but rather at the pretty cabinet knobs and bathroom fixtures. Elliott's is super duper cool for another reason: they don't make me feel STUPID when I ask a question. Whether I ask the greeter about dollies, or the old geezer working aisle 38 about a specific door plate (my examples from today's visit), they just smile warmly and guide me the right way. Thank you Harold, for being so nice! Oh, and did I mention they have *everything* under the stars you might need? We're talkin' from your next big outdoor grill kitchen down to the most minuscule fastener for your toilet. I even bought Silly Putty and a whoopie cushion there a few weeks ago. This place is so convenient. It's in between my work and home and has most everything I need. The service is awful and it is so horribly run. There is one lady who works most days that is so rude and annoyed at me because I didn't know exactly what I was looking for. I've been to Elliot's a few times at both their new and old location. The service has always been very, very good. You will generally receive personal attention fairly quickly when you walk in. With this kind of service, I never need to search for anything! As for the new location: I'm not sure why they moved to a smaller place. There definitely isn't as much stuff. In fact, like another had mentioned, it really has become more similar to Ace Hardware now, instead of the Home Depot/Lowe's that it used to be. CHECH YOUR RECEIPTS!!! They overcharged me for 2 out of the six things I bought there (that's 33%, btw) and when I went back then next day, to get the difference credited back to my credit card, they said I needed the items. When I returned with the items, they told me Id need ALL THE REST OF THE ITEMS. I told them forget it, just give me a refund. The VERY RUDE GIRL said sorry you're having a bad day. I said I WASNT having a bad day till I came there. She said she wasn't either, till I got there!!!!!!!!! After they refunded my money, I said i wanted to buy them, at the lower price they were STILL marked at, they refused to honor the marked price! I always knew Elliots had a reputation for screwing people, but just thought they charged too much for things. First time here and great customer service. Very convenient store and not as massive as other hardware stores.

What happened to Elliot's that used to be famous for customer service? Not at all the same...that's for sure! The cashier wouldn't budge from her chair...she broadcast for someone to help "this guy" and they were about 3ft apart. Whoever "helped" me looked at me like I had just peed on his floor and told me he didn't know specific things about their pesticides but their specialist would be in tomorrow. Same for other question I had ("they" only want us to work 30 hrs). Really disappointed in my visit. Will not go back. You get more help at Home Depot and that's really saying something! read more

Elliot's is great because it's a real man's hardware store, but at the same time, it lures the ladies. Elliot's has got both sexes appeal. Maybe because it's a Dallas mainstay, and everyone's parents shop there. Whenever I need something fixed, my Dad starts his sentence off with, "Go to Elliot's and pick up a _______. Oh hell, I'll go with you. Then we can go eat Mexican food across the street." The employees are friendly and always willing to help, and the prices are pretty decent. Also, if you have a grandmother or family member that collects Department 56 Snow Village pieces, and you need to buy them one as a gift, Elliot's will hook you up. Their selection is good, but it is always best to open the box and check for broken pieces before you buy anything. This is a hardware store, and sometimes those boxes get tossed around when they are stocking. They aren't expecting sissy, breakable, Christmas Snow Village Houses in with all the manly and tough drill bits and 2 x 4s. One of Elliot's few downsides is that they are not open on Sundays. Perhaps that's why they have good employees - they get a day off on the weekend and are therefore not bitter. read more

I have lived across the street from Elliott's Hardware for a year and never ventured in until this week. I am kicking myself for not going sooner. I needed pine-sol, a mop, and a trash bin. I walked in and was surprised it is as big as it looks from the outside. I didn't know where to start and, within a few minutes, a very nice employee came over to help. He not only showed me where my stuff was but he explained the layout of the store and its hours. The prices for everyday supplies are pretty competitive to Target/Walgreens/CVS. For the rest of the store's products/services (and I'm sure what accounts for the bulk of their business), based on the experience, I would definitely hit up Elliot's Hardware when the situation calls. PLENTY of parking, easy to get to, and it's a local business. Good times. read more

What a disappointment that Elliot's Dallas decided to downsize and move out of their old location. Not only have they moved farther into the bario, which may deter some patrons, but the inventory is now seriously limited. It used to be that you could get anything at Elliot's. And that was the big draw. Quirky but important(!) stuff was always findable at Elliot's. They had stuff that you didn't even know you needed until you saw it at Elliot's. Today I went looking for Rubbermaid spatuals. See, that's exactly the kind of thing you could expect to find at Elliot's -- useful, traditional stuff you can no longer find anywhere else. They didn't have the spatulas, but that wasn't the biggest disappointment. That was a long shot anyway (but definitely the kind of thing you'd be surprised to find at Elliot's.) It was heartbreaking to see how it's changed. Elliot's Dallas now looks like a Dollar Store or Big Lots. The aisles were narrow and cluttered; the merchandise seemed unimportant and disrespected. The only good thing I can say is that the parking lot is large. I guess no one in the family wanted to keep up the business and this is their way of phasing out of business. What a shame. read more

I love pretty much everything about Elliott's. They've had everything I need, the staff is knowledgeable, and I can get in and out quickly. Can't say that about some of the "big box" places. Elliott's isn't just a hardware store, it's a memory of simpler times... before the big box, before the crazy check-out lines, and before everyone wore kahki's and blue or orange shirts. I like to think of it as useful nostalgia... It's nostalgic, but they also have things that I need at generally reasonable prices. For 60 years, Elliott's has been Dallas' best hardware store because of their impeccable customer service. You will be greeted warmly when you arrive and assisted in finding or ordering exactly what you need. I recently needed a spare key and foolishly went to Home Depot (because Elliott's is closed on Sunday) -- where I fought traffic in the parking lot, employees passed me off rather than helping me, all cashiers had long check out lines, self check-out didn't work, and (worst of all) the key copy didn't work in my lock! In contrast, Elliott's offered plenty of parking, instantly made a key, had a real live friendly cashier, and got me quickly on my way. It's worth driving a bit further for such a pleasant shopping experience. read more

I was a little disappointed coming to Elliott's Hardware today. I have a Stiletto hammer and for those of you who know what that is, you know when you break your hammer handle, part of you dies with it. I had heard of my friends sending their hammers off to Stiletto to get their handles replaced. I was determined to replace it myself. On to the website I went and it showed that Elliott's had replacements. I was in the area (I live in North DFW) and stopped by. I looked in the tools area where the hammers were and there were no handles or Stiletto hammers. Looked around some more, walked around the store to find a police officer on a store computer in the paint area (weird). Saw some replacement handles for generic hammers, axes, hatchets, etc, but no Stiletto hammer handles. Finally managed to flag down a store employee who was busy talking to another employee and asked her about it. She took me to the hammers, then to the generic replacement handles then finally said, "I'll have to ask *so and so* and he'll know. I'll take your number and he'll give you a call tomorrow." Last time I went to the Coit location, I was looking for a 8mm socket bolt that was 80mm long. Nope. Not here either. Elliotts, you've failed me again. Maybe even for the last time. read more

For the most part...GREAT selection of items. When I asked for help though I was told "what we have is over there." No question of 'what exactly are you looking for?", "what are you needing?" Just a point in a general direction. If there were customers everywhere I would have understood..it was me and three other customers in the store. Did I mention I walked in between two different lock displays multiple times and NEITHER employee asked me if I needed help? This place used to be great but it has gone downhill. I shop here a lot as a designer and spend thousands of dollars here. I prefer to shop at Elliott's vs a big box store. Yesterday I tried to return three items without a receipt which I have done before. They scan my item and run my card and it's never been an issue before. A lady who usually doesn't work the register was there and I felt bad because she didn't know what to do even in a regular check out much less a return check out. She called for Lenny the manager twice before he showed up. I went ahead and checked out with my purchases and stepped back into line as I was holding up the line. When Lenny got there he saw there was a line and went behind the other register to help out. He immediately said oh this one isn't working sorry I can't help. So he then starts to help the female checker and when I get up there he immediately says he can't return my items. He did let me return two door knobs but when a light I bought didn't show up in their system he said he could not return it. He didn't even try to help me figure it out. I left the light there with my name and number attached to it for Monday's manager Kimmy to call me. I bought this a few weeks ago and I went and checked the shelves myself and I did buy the last one that day so that's why it's not in the system. Also, there are several employees there that will not give you the time of day. As for Lenny he was in street clothes, no red vest, no Elliott's shirt at all. He looked like a shopper, there is no way to see him in the store and know he worked there. I bet you can run my card and see how much I spend there a year and I hope they do. I'll start going to another Elliott's or just go back to big box because at this point I'm not getting any better service at Elliott's and isn't that what it's about. read more

Customer service and product knowledge is NOTHING like it used to be. Had several visits to Elliots during freeze and a bathroom and kitchen remodel. Most of it was in plumbing. Out of 5 trips unless I found this one gentleman (don't know his name) I was out of luck. The other three i dealt with were not much sharper than most pet rocks. Two times I asked questions...they said they would be right back...never returned. Nor will I. read more
