They had the little rubber feet I needed, and a beautiful soprano pentatonic wind chime.

Customer service and product knowledge is NOTHING like it used to be. Had several visits to Elliots during freeze and a bathroom and kitchen remodel. Most of it was in plumbing. Out of 5 trips unless I found this one gentleman (don't know his name) I was out of luck. The other three i dealt with were not much sharper than most pet rocks. Two times I asked questions...they said they would be right back...never returned. Nor will I. read more

For more than 30 years I've patronized Elliott's. First at the Maple @Motor location through their downsizing moves now ending up on Inwood. Elliott's was great to find in the 80's, it became my indispensable "go to" place to pick up those things the big box stores didn't carry. With every move of the store it was downsized. With every move it seemed staff became fewer, younger and less interested. With every move Elliott's has become less and less indispensable. Now at the Inwood Road location in Dallas and after my latest visit I'm giving up and sadly dispensing with Elliott's services for good. This is why.... A hobby for me is buying, owning and fixing cars, those over 25 years old mostly. Not long ago I acquired a 30 year old Pontiac. It needed very little to return it to near showroom condition. The reconditioning and sourcing of hard to find little items is part of the fun. I was happy to find a correct new-old-stock set of General Motors key blanks. I went down to Elliott's to get the keys cut. Right away the clerk said "we only cut keys for the blanks we sell". Seriously? So I ask "do you have General Motors blanks? Not generic blanks, actual GM blanks." She didn't know and asked another lady who told her "no". I said "good, then you are able to make my keys". Miffed the clerk replied "we only cut keys using the blanks we sell". Seriously? What's wrong with this picture? read more

Everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable. The store is organized and clean. Love coming here.

Elliott's Hardware is a great little hardware store. They once were huge and had everything under the sun. Now they have moved to this new location reduced their inventory from an over whelming great supply of items and friendly staff down. Still to this day, the inventory maybe down, but the friendly, knowledgeable staff can still help you out more than the average. read more

Best selection around, fun to browse, gadgets galore, kitchenware, and all the hardware you could wish for NOT in a warehouse. You can find what you need faster, and with help, if you like. The real deal. The only thing I like more than this is a feed and seed store (farm supply). read more

Appreciate the mom and pop thing, but this place felt like a discount store with really old product. Wasn't my cup of tea.

Great place to find anything, I love not having to go to one of the big box home improvement stores. These guys won't BS you they will find someone who knows what they are talking about and find what you need. I went there looking for a specialty item and they weren't afraid to send me to another place. They are confident in there product and knowledge to send me elsewhere knowing I'll come back. They aren't afraid of researching and told me the next time I came in they'd custom order my product and have it on the shelf after that. I had a good attitude leaving there because of the staff. Thanks Elliotts. read more

The new owners (a big corporation) bought the Elliot name, opened at a smaller but new location at Inwood but have horrible service and attitude. The sales associate at electrical parts didn't even bother to verify and said they don't carry the part. Only after complaining that other hardware stores carry the part, another sales lady looked into it and said they do have it. The present owners should change the store name so that not to ruin the image and good name of Elliot Hardware that we used to know and love. read more

If you remember the old days when you could go into a hardware shop and get personal attention for 1 screw that was a certain size, then Elliott's is the place! They are an attention to detail place where old guys are at about every aisle waiting to assist you. These days when customer service is so hard to find, Elliott's breaks that mold and brings you back to a better time. The gals on the front registers are there to check you out, if you need assistance finding specific items, there is like a guy or two on every aisle! They have a hardware department in the back with every kind of knob/hinge you can think of. VERY DETAILED small parts everywhere and professional help finding it all. It's always a pleasure getting my items here as opposed to the wharehouse one size fits all stores. read more

I guess I'm supposed to like and support these local-type stores. But there's a reason the big-box hardware giants are taking over. Elliott's had horrible service. There were 4 people at the front gabbing about the latest movie or TV show, I had to walk to the front, kids in tow, to roust them out of their duldrums. Then I was treated as if I had the problem b/c I actually asked for assistance. Fine. But then the girl that "volunteered" to acutally do her job didn't know what I was asking for, if they had it, and wondered around aimlessly looking for it. Finally, I said, "I can wonder around and look for it by myself, don't need your 'help' for that!" I know, asking for a turkey fryer the Wed before Thanksgiving is completely crazy and confusing and all. So, sorry Small Guy, back to Home Depot for me. read more

This is a great little store. It had just the part we were looking for and couldn't find elsewhere. Good service and just so much more personalized and helpful than the big chain stores. read more

I grew up around Elliott's when it was up on Maple, my mom worked there when she was a teenager, I was pretty stoked that it would be moving closer to our house, which is on Denton right across from us! A stone's throw indeed, I like the small compact of the store, haven't had any issues trying to locate what I need, But the only thing that gets me is when you walk in and the strong smell of fertilizer that hits your nose and tends to linger ... But hey that's just me, I am here on vacation, visiting and I had to make a stop here, the 1.00 bins are pretty hit or miss depending on what you need. Overall I can't say that I have any other issues with this place. read more

My first visit since they moved. I was expecting more and bigger. I went for bird seed and found it at the going rate. But they had sent me a coupon which made it a great deal. But seriously, I expected them to have way more variety. Nice people though, quick in and out. read more

Just had the RUDEST telephonic conversation with Fredericka J of the Inwood store. I sent my driver to pick up 40w fluorescent bulbs for my shop and she told him that she didn't have any but that she had 30w bulbs. Well, AFTER the sale was made, she told my guy that she DID in fact have the bulbs after she did some checking on her system AFTER she sold him the lower watt bulbs. So, my guy called me and asked me what I wanted done at that point. I talked to the Fredericka and asked her if she could just give my guy our check back and I would re-issue another check for the correct amount for the correct bulbs; she said no she couldn't because she "couldn't take it out." I asked her if she did an electronic check and she said she didn't know but that she couldn't take it out. I thought to myself, 'what the heck is wrong with this girl?' I asked her what she meant and she said she just couldn't take it out. I said "Fine, just give me a credit memo for the transaction" and she said she would give me a store credit in the form of a gift card (same thing, but ok). I told asked her why she couldn't have saved us all a headache and done her job by looking out for her customer and found the bulbs BEFORE she rang up my guy? She then said she wanted to talk to my manager and I told her she WAS talking to the managing partner of the business and then I told her I was going to speak to her manager. She got rude with me by saying "Do whatever you want." She then called to my shop 4x and each time my secretary passed her to me to try to complain. Elliott's needs to get rid of this girl or send her to CSR school. My driver said she's always been like this towards him and that she has a gold-capped front tooth so if you encounter her, BE SURE TO TAKE NOTE OF HER ATTITUDE; hopefully it's changed by then. He also said Linda S. is far more pleasant than Fredericka J. read more

Not only do they have everything, they have lovely folks that know where everything is. I've always had a thing for hardware stores, so I could potentially wonder around for hours. On top of their usual awesomeness they have a recycle event about every quarter, so you can take lots of things for Goodwill, e-waste or regular recycling. Yey for Elliot's! read more

I went to Elliott's while visiting my daughter and son-in-law. This store was amazing to me and I cannot say enough good about it. The staff was more than helpful, and I felt like I was the only customer in the store, as far as how they answered all of my questions, and took me to various items I was shopping for. They didn't have an item I needed, but took my name and number and called me when it came in! Very friendly staff. Where I am from in the east, you cannot find stores like this, any place! It was truly an experience from the "good ol days", and very much appreciated. I will be moving to the area in the next few months, and I will shop at the Denton Dr. location. I really look forward to it! read more

I'm not even sure where to begin. I spoke with 3 employees and received no help to resolve my problem. My wife bought me a chainsaw 3 weeks ago for my birthday. Unbeknownst to her, I had already borrowed my neighbors chainsaw to finish a project I was working on. I had no use for the one she had bought so I brought it back to return so I could get myself something else for my birthday. The first employee I spoke with at the register needed someone else to process the return. She paged him about 10 times, then sent me through the store to find him. He came to the register finally and told me my item was ineligible for a return or even store credit. Nowhere on my receipt or invoice was this stated. I called my wife and she told me that no one notified her of the mere 7 day window, the chainsaw was able to be returned in. She bought it 5 days before my birthday, so by the time I received the gift, I only had 2 days according to this employee to return the item. I asked to speak with a manager and he told me the same thing blaming the manufacturer for their return policy. If this were Home Depot or Lowes, they would accept the unused item back or at least be very clear at the point of purchase about all of the limitations and conditions. I consider this fraud. Had my wife known of the stipulations, she never would have made the purchase. We have clearly been taken advantage of. We will not be coming back and I suggest you go elsewhere as well. If it was posted, it was not clear and the staff absolutely did not make sure my wife was aware of the conditions before the purchase. read more

Paul Cornell at new Denton Dr store today gave me the most complete information about lawn fertilizers ever heard-I had been researching "green" and he "pulled it all together" with facts and solid suggestions. Have always thought of Elliott's as the store with helpful personnel vs big box home stores. BUT just encountered the rudest employee (senior gentleman or honestly just man) who walked off before even letting me describe what I needed and said if I didn't know the exact name he couldn't help! Literally walked off...thankfully I know exactly where the part I need is at the store in Plano so I will head there. Very disappointed. read more

Elliott's Hardware is amazing. I found this place by accident while driving around looking at homes for sale in the Oak Lawn Heights neighborhood. The store is in an unexpected location at the back of this older Dallas' neighborhood that has recently seen a good amount of reinvestment and interest it and the Denton Dr. DART Rail station and platform is right behind it. The store itself is in an older, squatty, single story strip center along with a large Mexican restaurant; to the store's other side is a large space that appeared to have been a supermarket in its past but has since been vacated. Because the neighborhood where the store is located in is transition, appealing to younger professionals, the parking lot filled with old trucks of blue collar working class and families alongside Range Rovers, Mercedes, and BMWs... all parked together, side by side, with the aging, past-its-prime strip center as a backdrop is almost metaphoric for what is going on in Dallas at this time: the rebirth of neighborhoods and the prosperity of local businesses like Elliott's Hardware. Walking in is the checkout counter and a section of cold drinks, candy, and snacks with the lighting, garden, and paint departments all in eyeshot. To the far right wall is what looks like a separate room/vault that contains any kind of drawer pull and other such hardware imaginable. Getting further into the store there's a great household supplies aisle. I was able to buy Spic & Span powder cleaner for the first time in about 10 years... I'd just thought it was a product that had been discontinued. I always loved (and had greatly missed) the familiar smell of it and bought two boxes. I was able to find many types of better furniture waxes and polishes from brands like Howard's and Natchez that I can't even find in the big box hardware or discount stores; this earned Elliott's my business for good because I have an unfinished wood dining table and I can't use any of the more readily available products (i.e. Pledge, Olde English, Endust, Liquid Gold, etc) to clean and polish it. Other purchases: Old school Lysol concentrate in the dark brown bottle with yellow label: check! Natural Lye shower soap: check! A bottle of grape Faygo pop (which I haven't seen in 22 years) that I found when I went to make my purchases: check! I also picked up a handheld vacuum with those finds, all to the tune of about $65. I can't really tell you what I'd have paid elsewhere because I haven't found some of these items elsewhere in years, but I think it was a very fair price given the handheld vacuum was $37. Shoppers who like the sameness of Lowe's and Home Depot's store layouts and products may be turned off by Elliott's almost "Woolworth-like" shopping experience with its broad, albeit slightly erratic, merchandise mix and may view the store as having "a whole lot of nothing"... however, if you browse or just ask one of the many friendly sales associates for assistance, you'll learn that it's not that Elliott's has "a whole lot of nothing" but rather "a bit of everything" and that what you can't find in the store, they will gladly special order. As far as finding what you're looking for, I'd say you have to have some shopping savvy, otherwise, ask one of the sales associates, they're wonderful and were all eager to help. I not only like the fact that they had what I needed when I dropped in after discovering this store, but that they also had things I wanted: things that I thought were no longer available. As I walked out of the store taking a drink of my cold grape pop, I felt good that I was supporting my community and by supporting a local small business owner. You should really check Elliott's Hardware the next time you need a hardware or household item; I feel that my business was much more appreciated there, especially when I think about the countless times I've been forced to go though the self-checkout line at Home Depot because there's only one cashier ringing up customers and the line is 8 people deep (on a Saturday, of course). read more

Awesome, small hardware store with happy to help staff. Found the obscure hardware I needed for a furniture building project right away thanks to their help. It's much more manageable than a big store but still has a huge collection of fasteners, so nicely organized. read more

One of a kind. Sadly, this Saturday is the last day we can browse the cavernous Oak Lawn store; they are moving to a new address--approximately 1/4 the size--near the Denton drive cutoff. Yep, the Big Box stores killed their power tool, garden equipment and nearly every other category. I was assured the new store would have the esoteric fasteners and O-rings, etc., I have been used to seeking. We'll see. read more

I think the new Elliott's location on Inwood near Irving Blvd. is great! This is the 4th location in the Inwood/Hines area since I've been in Dallas (previously at Maple/Hudnall, at Maple/Motor, and Denton Cut-Off). The new location has Elliott's awesome signature fastener section, and it looks like they have a complete plumbing section with every kind of fitting. Staff is eager to help me find what I need. And like before, Elliott's tends to avoid stocking cheaply made low-quality items that are in abundance at the big box stores. Parking is easy and there is a light right there to help you get back onto Inwood. read more

Really had a good selection, made keys, did exactly what I wanted. But I have to say, it just seems small for a hardware store. Perhaps my expectations have been raised by the big boxes, but yeah, seems a little small. read more

Way overrated! The knowledgeable and helpful staff you hear so much about turned out to be a bunch of curmudgeons who could care less if I bought what I came in to purchase. I have been forced to be an Elliotts customer for years because they are the only place to find certain small yet vital things. Therefore I have always endured the often less than friendly employees there BUT !!! enough is enough. Since they moved to the Inwood location the employees are just unbearably rude. I have been 2 times since they moved, once a guy in garden supplies was not interested in listening to what I needed and would only tell me about his deep knowledge of trees. I finally just walked away, him still talking after I left. Todays visit I had a question about a paint product in stock, went to the paint desk and stood in front of a lady for 5, yes 5 minutes while she tapped away at the register. Finally I said can you answer a question, with an attitude she said "well I guess". Then the 2 girls at checkout were miffed that I interrupted their conversation to pay. I am done with Elliotts. read more

When my family and I moved to DeSoto in 1982, my father-in-law said Elliot's was the only place to shop and he was right. For all those years, no matter what obscure part, piece, tool, material, you-name-it, Elliot's had it or could get it. And 98% of the time, they had it on the shelf. If they didn't have it, they could get it. If you had to make do, there was plenty of stuff to make do with, but that was rare. Yeah, it cost a little more, but so what? Quality everything! And not like Home Depot or Lowe's where they never have everything I need. I call then the 90% stores. I can get 90% of the stuff for the job and have to improvise or drive across town to Elliot's to get it. I would plan my projects so I could make my Saturday trip to pick up everything I needed. Didn't mind at all they are closed on Sunday. The big box stores, Ace and the rest were for emergencies only. Then stuff started to disappear. Ever-increasing floor space and 1/2 of what I need isn't there anymore or I have to make do with "close, but no cigar." They are becoming just another Ace, Best or True Value. I have one of those a mile from my house. No point in driving across town for that! Very sad. Very sad, indeed. They were once the hardware king of the world. An absolute shrine to the craftsman. Now they're just another over-priced hardware store with a string of dollar bins full of cheap junk. read more
