This is a small restaurant, informal, but very clean. The wait staff were cordial and prompt. We had a group of 6, and while there aren't many tables that large in the small space we got lucky and arrived when another even larger group was leaving. They started us with a small cup of delicious rice and lemongrass soup. The fried spring rolls were crisp and hot, and strangely they tasted a little like cinnamon. Not sure if they use the same oil for frying doughnuts or something. It wasn't bad--just different. I had the fried tilapia with chili sauce and veg. It was crisp and so delicious I could have licked the plate. Others had Pad wu sen and said it was excellent. It was my friend's birthday and the server must have overheard me say so, because as we finished eating they played a happy birthday song over the sound system and brought out a free fried ice cream type dessert. I did not have finding great Thai food on my bingo card during my drive down to South Carolina to visit family for the holidays, but Rice provided! We had pulled off the interstate and were a bit road weary, so we decided to actually find something that wasn't fast food to satiate us. I pulled up the trusty Yelp app, and was blown away to see a Thai restaurant with a 5-star average in Kings Mountain of all places. We simply had to go and find out for ourselves. Rice is a small, looks like family run, kind of place. They did a ton of take-out business while we were there, but at peak dinner hours there was actually a wait for a dine-in table (about 15 minutes after we walked in). Clearly this is a locally loved spot. My wife went for the hibachi menu because she has an aversion to fish sauce, but I jumped right into the thai flavors with some fresh shrimp rolls and a bowl of their house specialty Tom Kha hot and sour noodle soup. To speak on the fresh rolls, I was a bit disappointed. Though the taste was great, they only had two measly shrimp inside them. The places near my home serve much larger rolls, with at least 4 plump shrimp inside. Regardless, with a very tasty dipping sauce, I was mostly happy with them. The soup shined bright on a very cold night. It was spicy enough to get my nose running at a level 3 spice, packed a really nice sour punch to balance the heat. There was a good amount of meat in it, and a very generous portion of noodles. I had some extra to take with us to our destination. Service is friendly and amazing! The sweet tea was really sweet, so make sure you ask for half-and-half or lemonade and sweet tea. Enjoyed the food. I got the Pad Khing w/ chicken and my date had the sweet basil fried rice w/ chicken is delicious. The curry puffs for an appetizer was a phenomenal choice. For wine, the UN Pinot Noir pairs well. Do NOT sleep on this place! Auntie's is now called Rice and it is, hands down, the BEST meal I have had this entire week of visiting Kings Mountain. The ladies who run it are so friendly and lovely! They were so kind to help me with menu options and even walked me through the sauce selections! FYI the Chili Oil is super spicy and super delicious! The Thai spring rolls have that umami quality that I was craving with a surprise hint of sweetness and dose of aromatic flavors I never expected! I could have ordered 30 of these! And crispy?!??! The crispiest! 10 out of 10! The Pad Kratiam (Pad Garlic) I ordered with pork but you can choose any protein from tofu to beef to seafood.... so many options to personalize it. The pork was so tender and the flavor was sublime! Notes of cilantro chased the garlic and sauted peppers.... coupled with the softest jasmine rice and a savory sauce.... I seriously suggest you give this one a try! And even though they are advertised as a Thai restaurant, they cater indiscriminately to their Asian-cuisine loving patrons by offering Chinese and Japanese style entrees as well as the most phenomenal Pho you can find this side of the state! All the food was fantastic we had appetizers 1 thur 6 all of them were great.. chicken lomain kids loved it. Pineapple fried rice with chicken amazing Red curry some of the best ever. Number 45 can't remember the name but it was so good we order another one to go. Service was friendly very helpful. Didn't take to long for food to come out there was a lot of take out orders and our food still came out fairly quickly and was spot on in flavor. It's a small space bright colors lots of natural light relaxed at You must get the homemade coconut ice cream so refreshing. We will be coming back for sure. Dang! I knew this place was good, but the online ratings/reviews definitely confirm it. These are some of the highest ratings I have ever seen across different review sites, and it's a tucked away place off a side road in a rural industrial area near a Waffle House and tractor shop. This is one of the best kept secrets I have come across on my journeys. And I only stopped here because I did a random search on the way back from a poker trip. The Sesame Chicken might be the best I have ever had. Awesome! The Chicken Lo Mein was just okay, but you usually need to know what to order at an Asian restaurant and I had no clue, so I can't hold it against them. Friendly service and great food. A friend and I drove to Kings Mountain to have lunch, but the restaurant we planned to go to was closed for lunch. After checking reviews of other restaurants in the area we decided to try Rice. It didn't disappoint. The appetizer sampler was very good. My normal Thai go to is Pad Thai, but we both decided to try the red curry at a 3 out of 5 spice level (with seafood for me and chicken for him). It was excellent. As the reviews mention, this place is legit! Especially for the area, I have to drive a little bit to get here but I occasionally have a craving for Thai food.... Plus wanted to try someplace new! The pad Thai is tasty, it is a tad bit on the sweeter side. Like really sweet. I felt like I had the aftertaste of a dessert after each 1/2 of it. I felt it didn't have enough bean sprouts or scallion... no spice whatsoever, but still good enough for my craving! He loved his hibachi shrimp, and the spring rolls were pretty good. One of our favorite places. We were missing good Thai food when we moved to KM a couple years ago, then we found Rice.

My family & I absolutely loved eating here for the first time. Such a pleasant place to be and so happy to see how highly well received they are, rightfully so. We love the authentic taste in their thai and viet options. Love that hibachi is offered for even more variety. Their hibachi sauce, carrots & noodles are a unique blend of their own. The only place where John is a carrot fan. It's also the only place where he approves of the Pad Thai, which frankly is the best shrimp pad thai that I've ever had, hands down. Infinity bonus for their complimentary, childhood classic, tri-color prawn shrimps imported from Thailand! True treat for sure, comes along with thai chili sauce, but it is delicious alone. My 6 year old calls it better than chips & salsa. The pho broth was divine. Very rarely am I one sip & gone. Didn't need to add anything else bc my taste buds were sinking in flavor land & love. There aren't any meatballs, and one of the types of beef was slightly questionable, but overlooked it bc honestly, the broth is just THAT GOOD! Not a hoisin sauce bottle in sight, but you likely won't care. This would be a very special place to share with my parents and family. Definitely would want to treat my grandma to their fish dishes. Came here for lunch. The restaurant m has a small dine in area maybe 10 tables. Service was good and the food came out hot and fast. I got the pork pad krapow The menu said minced meat but it was actually sliced pork. Ground pork is usually a bit fatty and the sauce can stick onto the meat better giving it better flavor. The sliced pork was a bit dry. But the sauce was very good. They may want to change the menu as not to mislead. But the dish was still good other than that. Would definition recommend. read more

I drove almost two hours (each way) JUST to eat here! Restaurant renamed to Rice but I've eaten here several times over the years. It's a hole in the wall joint, but don't judge as every visit has been amazing! Highly recommend the duck, curries (especially panang) and the satay...though after a total of appx 17 entrees, I've yet to find one disappointing. Service is great as well.
