I was hiking in the morning at a near by mountain and decided to have lunch here after . My first time trying this restaurant and I can tell you this if you love southeastern asian food, you must check this place out! Upon entering I was greeted by staff. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with green plants. I mentioned that it was my first time here and they suggested what dish I may like to try. Everything I tried by far is so delicous and tasty!! Food came out fast, service is excellent and the atmosphere of the restaurant is just a bonus. I would definitely come try more food!! read more

The Peanut House is a casual Thai restaurant in Hickory. There are various dishes on their menu, ranging from noodles to rice to soup. The inside is clean and has a slight industrial look with bright red chairs for warmth. I thought the decorations inside were beautifully chosen. There is a decent amount of seating inside, but not a lot as the restaurant itself occupies a sort of small space in this plaza. The service was good! Food arrived in a timely manner and servers checked in on us often. We shared the Shrimp Tempura and I got Drunken Noodles. The Shrimp Tempura was really good! Each piece was fried to perfection and paired well with this sweet chili sauce. They were a bit thin though. As for the Drunken Noodles, I got it with chicken at a medium spice level. I will say that I was feeling the spice at a medium, which is what I usually get at Thai restaurants so be warned! I feel like there was a good chicken to noodle ratio in the dish. More chicken than I expected. The flavor was right as well, but the dish was too dry and a bit salty. There was like no sauce and I do not even like my noodles to have that much sauce but I was looking for it in this dish. An added plus about this spot is that their entrees come in generous portions. Overall, I would rate this spot a 3.5/5 stars. There are probably dishes on their menu that would have hit harder for me than the Drunken Noodles. This seems to be a solid spot for a small town like Hickory. read more

The one star is only because you're not allowed a zero rating on Yelp. Actually, I don't know what rating I would have given The Peanut House ... if we had ever gotten our food. After sitting nearly an hour, we left. And we weren't the only ones. As we were going out the door, another would-be diner, who had stepped outside for a cigarette, volunteered they had ordered more than 45 minutes earlier and were still waiting on their lunch to be served. read more

After a long hike, my friends wanted some good comfort food. So I told them I know where to go! We came here about 4:15pm on a Sunday and they closed at 5 pm. At first we didn't want to go in but the staff said it was no problem! The staff was so nice and helpful with answering questions about the menu because some of my friends were vegan. The decor and vibes of the whole staff and restaurant is so welcoming. We had a good time. The food taste like it's was made by my grandma and brought back some good memories! My favorite dishes are the Sunny Egg Noodles and the traditional fried pork!!!! The papaya salad was a hit! I love that it comes with pork rinds. So if ya in the area after a long hike, stop by and give them a try! read more

Stopped here again recently and wanted to try what the menu described as "coconut chicken soup" - so glad I did! This is such delicious soup! It's so difficult to describe the flavor. It's not sweet, like the coconut might make you think. It's rich and creamy and warm. I loved it. We also had the Sunny Noodles (I think that's what they were called!) and they were delicious too. Lovely thin strips of chicken in well flavored noodles. It's always busy here, but never takes too long to get our food. Always comfortable and clean as well. read more

Great Thai food for the area, and huge generous portions for the prices. We had the following: - Pad woodsen with chicken (level 1 spicy) - slightly sweet and very flavorful. Very mildly spicy. - Pad Thai with shrimp - excellent - Drunken noodles with combination meat - average. Noodles were a bit stiff and did not taste or feel fresh. read more

Absolutely delicious food and service. Their seating area is small but clean. The service was excellent and they were incredibly friendly.

Food was amazing! And service was friendly and fast. Will definitely go ta again when I am in area. It's a great find!

The fresh spring rolls were the best I have ever had, you won't be disappointed. The fried tofu was also a good app. Both old our meals were very good and the service was excellent. Cute little hideaway that you can pop into in very casual attire. read more

I ate here for the first time during a lunch rush and the environment was a bit chaotic. There is no hostess stand or waiting area if the tables are full, which is why I'm giving four out of five stars. There is no clear direction to see a hostess or seat yourself so we checked at the counter before sitting down. On to the food...I was impressed by the food and presentation. Each dish was beautifully plated and the colors popped. We ordered the Veggie Spring Rolls and Egg Rolls as appetizers. I would definitely order the Egg Rolls again, those were amazing! The mint in the Spring Rolls was a bit strong. For my meal, I ordered Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice with a spice level of two. I was conservative with my spice level since it was my first dining experience here but I would try a four next time. I thought the dish was excellent, from the chicken to the cashews to the fried egg, I enjoyed it all. My mom ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with a spice level of two. It was delicious, very crispy with plenty of sauce. My friend ordered the Masaman Curry Stir-Fry and thoroughly enjoyed it. We elected to order our Banana Egg Rolls for dessert to go and they were delicious. All the food was amazing and I can't wait to go back! read more

I have to admit, the food (weh had two soups) was pretty good, but imagine how hot it was over there for us to sweat even before we ordered. They said that the restaurant has no insolation... say what? But, as it might be true, the ac was not working either! We started eating and sweat was pouring down our backs and faces. We ended up taking the soups to go and finishing them in the car . How funny is that . Strike 2 Peanut House read more

Overall a good experience. Schetchy at first walking up as the parkinglot and strip mall are not maintained very well. But was led to a pleasant surprise when I got inside, and it was very modern and new. The waitstaff was friendly and considering that they were busy, they did a good job. The only reason it is not a 5 for me is that the food was different. Not in a bad way, but the Pad Thai was calmer than normal and didn't have as much flavor. I also got the Tom Kha Gai soup and it was almost like a chicken broth with coconut powder texture, not the coconut milk soup I'm use to. Again it was not bad at all, just different. I will be back and you should too! Just be prepared for a different take on Thai Food read more

Came in around 2:00pm on a Sunday. It was super busy! Small space and it was packed, it got pretty warm quick. But the waitress was really good at multitasking and serving everyone. A little patience as a guest can go a long way. Now onto the food; The beef larb was good but not great. A solid 7/10. It wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad. Good savory/salty flavor. The Pork Prik Kanf Dang was really good, the savory/salty/sweet/spice was great. A solid 8.5/10. Sticky rice and steamed rice both tasted fresh and great. Also had 2 of their spring rolls, the rice paper felt really dry but the insides were nice and crunchy. The peanut sauce they use for the spring rolls is HEAVENLY. Really good peanut sauce. read more

I'm glad we came back. We knew we would based on how flavorful the food is. We typically go for spice level 3. Today it was a bit spicy but doable for my husband. It was right on point for me. It wasn't just a "spicy" tasting dish, but flavor with a kick. The service was much better. The staff were always nice. Today they were super friendly and the service was prompt. That being said, I did ask ahead of time for our food to be brought out at the same time. I didn't pay as much attention to the other patrons as they were all in groups and difficult to see if anyone was waiting. The updated menu keeps the more traditional dishes and eliminated some of the generic non-Thai (like crab Rangoon). If they keep the service up: it's okay if it take a while for the food to be cooked to order, but the dishes should arrive together or within a minute or two if a big group. I always recommended this place, and tonight's service showed that this place really is worthy of a 5 star review! read more

Wow--this place is so good! I eat Pad Thai more than I care to admit, and The Peanut House has some of the best I've ever had! I decided to dine in, so I started with the papaya salad--it was fresh and had great flavor! I tried it Hmong-style. This was my second Thai restaurant this week. I ordered Red Curry Tofu at both places. The Red Curry sauce at Thai Lotus was more traditional. The Peanut House has a thicker sauce Both are quite good. The portions of food are slightly larger for lunch at The Peanut House. The lunches at Thai Lotus includes the choice of Soup or Spring Roll or salad. I would gladly meet people for lunch at either restaurant. The Thai Iced at both restaurants were very tasty. read more

Simple place. Not high on traditional thai aesthetic style, but comfortable to me. More of an industrial feel. Ordered: Dumplings($6.55), tom kha gai ($6.95), thai fried rice (thai hot w shrimp)($10.95), jasmine tea ($2.50), thai tea ($3.99). Jasmine tea is served in simple, white, tea pot. Simple but elegant. Tom kha gai soup is a mild, comforting soup. Not very tangy, not very very salty. Mild in flavor, but I really enjoyed it as a comforting soup. It has tomato, snap pea pods, mushroom, bamboo shoots, onion, chicken, carrot. Thai basil fried rice was standard, reliable dish. I added more spice to my meal, but that's me. Nothing out of the ordinary, but its good for a quick meal. Prices are reasonable. I would come here for a regular meal, but not for a special occassion. This is a great place to order to-go for an enjoyable, quick meal at home. Service was okay. The waitresses were sweet and kind. I would come back to explore this restaurant's Laotian selection, as well. Lots to see and try here. I recommend. 4/5 read more

Really such a fantastic place to grab some fresh made thai food. With a party of 8, there was something on the menu for everyone, even a vegan section on the menu. The Peanut House never disappoints! Who else browses the menu even though you already know what you want?! There's soo much to choose from! I usually get their bomb Combo Pad Thai..but today, I was feeling Chicken Kapoon & it hit the spot! Their Hmong papaya was light, sour, sweet, & spicy! Very addicting. My bf got his usual - the Green Beans with Pork Belly! & lastly, you cannot dine in a Thai cuisine without ordering Thai Tea! The staffs are always professional and friendly! If you're looking for real deal Thai food in the surrounding area, The Peanut House is your best bet. Their menu offers a variety of Thai and Southeast Fusion items from curries to stir fries and traditional salads. The orders are perfectly portioned with just enough flavor to keep you coming back for more. I love how you can order the curries in a soup or stir-fry style. It comes with a side of jasmine or sticky rice (your choice). Overall, A+ customer service and hospitality. The new owners are really kind and goes out of their ways to make it a fantastic dining experience. My favorite part about eating here is the feeling of home. When a restaurant can make you feel that way, it's always a hit. I look forward to trying other items on the menu during my next visit. read more

Food is authentic, clean atmosphere...don't go by what the outside looks like, totally different inside... nice atmosphere

I have gotten takeout only, a few times. Never dined in. Food tastes great. We occasionally get a markedly reduced size portion for unknown reasons. The drive through is theoretically quite convenient. But it has been very hard to call in orders ahead of time, necessitating a drive to the window, placing an order, waiting 15-20 minutes, then driving back through in hopes that it is ready. Other people in drive through May or may not have succeeded in getting through by phone ahead of time. read more

What a find ! The star of the show was the food. It was the opposite of bland. Flavorful and delicious. Says on the flimsy paper menu that they don't play with spices. Order with that in mind. Dumplings for appetizer excellent. Drunken Noodles with tofu a treat. Perfectly balanced and again super tasty. Sampled the sweet and sour chicken. Wow ! If you want to give your taste buds a treat this is the place. Service was also outstanding. Our friends that recommended this place said everything on the menu was up to the same high standards. Very friendly staff, not very good food. Eatable, yes, if you're hungry. I tried the appetizer platter for variety, its mid to low-grade flavors, and preparation. The Tom Kha soup was decent. My wife's yellow curry was mid-grade eatable, though she didn't finish it. My daughter-in-law's Pad Thai was about the same. Fortunately, my teenage grandson can eat anything and finish it for her. His pork dish was again average at best if graded on a curve. If you're desperate for Thai food and hungry, then this place can likely satisfy you. But it's not very good overall...less than mid-grade to us in our experience. read more

Delicious with many Gluten Free (GF) options! Our daughter has Celiac Disease, so finding delicious gluten free, locally owned restaurants is not easy. The Peanut House staff was knowledgeable about GF preparations and helpful. Our entire order was amazing! Our family tried the spring rolls, Thai fried rice with beef and drunken noodles with shrimp. The shrimp were large, fresh and perfectly cooked and the beef was tender and delicious. We enjoyed the peanut sauce with the spring roll and loved the way we could choose the spice level that was right for each of our tastes. We will be back! read more
