BEST LARP EVER. I am lao and my lao auntie makes the hour+ drive often to eat at this restaurant from the triad just for this larp. The owners are also lao and specialize in raw beef larp aka larp dip. It's the first place I've ever had this on the menu and it's fiiiiire. If you're feeling adventurous for something different, I'd encourage you to try it because they do it the best. My auntie knows the owner, who pridefully cooks the food herself, and told us she has the butcher specially deliver the specific meat to her restaurant for her larp. She knows what she's doing and how she wants to serve it up. Can't be more emphatic about how great it is. Otherwise, walking into the restaurant, the decorations just scream laotian influence. There are a lot of Thai places that have Lao owners but it's not often Lao folks front being a Lao restaurant. There are certainly more these days, but it's not common. It was nice being able to be intentionally represented and picking through very well executed Lao cuisine. We also ordered the Lao papaya salad, with the funk (badack aka fermented fish sauce), Lao sausage, gang (beef soup), and nam khao (lao fried rice) not pictured to go. This place is a go to for my fam especially when treating ourselves or visiting family members to the best. Can't wait to visit again. In the meantime, I've got the larp I've packed to go in the fridge to enjoy another day.

Pho lao is an amazing restaurant. It is clean on the inside, the atmosphere is great, the food is authentic and delicious, and the waiters are nice. I enjoyed this restaurant, and my grandchildren loved it.

Decor

Delicious and authentic! Everything so fresh and flavorful! Absolutely love the purple sticky rice and lao sausage. Enjoyed with lao papaya salad (not pictured). Service was good considering the limited staff, just be nice and patient. The food is worth it! The ambiance was nice with music playing, not too loud. Everything looked clean and orderly. Can't wait to come back when I'm back in the area.

I finally got up the courage to try curry. Ya'll, why have I waited so long?! Based on our server's recommendation I opted for the yellow curry; absolutely delicious! The flavors are just incredible. The spice was very mild and the coconut cream base gives it a smooth, gently-sweet, taste. The veggies are all super fresh and both the veggies and chicken were plentiful. My only complaint...the chicken is dry. Each time I've tasted it, it's the same so I usually go for a shrimp dish. I ended up picking all the chicken out, but even with that issue the food was still amazing.

Authentic lao restaurant. Highlight were the papaya, laab and drinks. The lao pho portion could feed 2-3 people, and broth was clear.

Long overdue review from my visit back in November 2020. I believe they had only been open for a few weeks at that point and I was happy to stumble upon this place in Morganton. Located in a strip Mall this family run restaurant really aims to please the customer. I was quickly seated and brought my drink. The decor is on the sparse side but this place is more about the food part of the experience. What I had: Summer Rolls and Yellow Curry with Chicken. The Summer Rolls had a strip of cooked pork, not the shrimp you might typically find. It was nice for a change. The Yellow Curry had nice flavor and texture. The chicken was a bit tough/chewy but all the veggies were cooked well; I especially enjoyed the broccoli and onions which mingled with the curry and melted in your mouth like curry butter. I was even offered more rice when I was out. Good service - tasty food - keep up the great work!

This is my current favorite place to eat in Morganton. Portions are massive and the food is sooooo goood. I've been ordering the Panang curry... so tasty. Prices are good and the place is nice. Just ignore my review so this place doesn't get too busy!!

Friendly service great food ask for their shrimp sauce it is very good. They do not play on the spice levels though so watch out. Would highly recommend if you want Asian food

Potstickers

Service was very friendly and food came out at a reasonable time. We got several appetizers and ended up ordering some entrees. Very good! We over heard several people come in and ask for the usual. It was a peaceful environment and the waitress was so sweet.

Hidden Gem Stopped…read morein after realizing the new Catawba Two Kings Casino still has limited food options. Found this spot online, open on a Sunday evening, and decided to give it a try. It was packed just after 7 PM, but I was seated immediately. Drinks hit the table within minutes -- super efficient. The menu is huge, and they carry all the Asian beers (Sapporo, Kirin, etc.), which was a nice surprise. I ordered the crab Rangoon, Thai fried rice, and the shrimp teriyaki plate. Everything came out piping hot and incredibly fresh -- you can taste the difference here. Portions were solid, flavors were on point, and nothing felt rushed or sloppy. Service is a 10/10. You can feel the family vibe -- everyone working together in harmony, smooth, friendly, and the place is clean with good energy. Highly recommend. I'll be back on the next casino run

It was on a Sunday at lunchtime and it wasn't busy, just one large table of about six people. The restaurant is a small but cute and clean. We sat down and we both got water and our waitress brought them right away and also brought us out some ginger soup. I ordered the Taste of Thai mixed appetizer and my husband ordered the hibachi chicken. Our food came out fairly quickly and everything was very good. The reason I am giving it one star is because after we looked at our bank statement two days later we realize that they had added on an extra $24.78 to the tip after the fact. Our total bill was $28.25. My husband left a tip of $8.75 (Over 30%) bringing our total that we paid to $37.00 but they charged us $61.78. I have added a photo of the price of our food from their website and also a screenshot of our bank app showing the $61.78 charge and the $24.78 reimbursement. The food is good, but the integrity here is not, so we will not be back.

Service was amazing and food was even better. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had.read more

My wife and I ordered from Pho Lao Kitchen Der for takeout. We are quite versed in Thai cuisine,…read morehave only become interested in Vietnamese cuisine in the past few years, but are completely ignorant of Lao food. The portion sizes here are huge! Here was our order: -Shrimp Salad (Summer) Rolls: 10/10...the rolls were twice the size of rolls you get at other Thai places for the same price. But with the peanut sauce, they were transcendental. That peanut sauce could be bottled and sold en masse. So so so good. -Papaya Salad: 7.5/10, very refreshing, but with a secret hit of spice on the back of the palate that wakes you up. Crisp, fresh, healthy. -Larb chicken: this was a first for me....to my unrefined palate, it tasted almost like ground chicken cooked with pho spices/herbs. I ended up drizzling some of the leftover peanut sauce on the chicken which was amazing. Again, lots of protein and vegetables, perfect for health-conscious folks. 9/10 -Pad Thai: this is my wife's safe order that she always uses as a litmus test for restaurants, and it did NOT disappoint! She said this was her favorite pad Thai EVER, and with drizzles of the extra peanut sauce and lime juice, this dish was truly elevated. 10/10. -Mango Sticky Rice: 100000000/10, my lord I don't know how I lived my life without this. It's reminiscent of peach cobbler in my opinion, but with mango. The sweetened rice isn't overly sweet, which allows the sharpness/sweetness of the mango to shine. The mango itself was perfectly ripe, whereas most mangos tend to be sickly sweet and mushy from overripening. All in all, this is our new favorite for Thai cuisine in Tri-Cities, and my introduction to Lao food was beautiful and filling. We will absolutely be back in the future, as I'd love to see how Lao pho differs from Vietnamese pho. Plus the mango sticky rice is etched into my mind permanently.
