Glad we found this restaurant online as we were driving to Baton Rouge. We only had 30 minutes so we called ahead and the food was ready when we arrived. Ate, it was good. A perfect stop along our cross country road trip. Jambalaya was my favorite. But all seemed to be missing some flavor so the hot sauce was a must. Overall enjoyed it! Wish they had okra

Still one of our favorite stops while in BR! If you are looking to take a meal to a family, dinner while passing through or just have a hankering for some good Acadian food this is a wonderful option. Tonight we chose a small bucket of jambalaya and crawfish pies to feed our family of 5. Everyone had full bellies and excited to get more our next time in Baton Rouge.

We were once again on our quest across the country and stopped for a night in Baton Rouge. I wanted Jambalaya because we're in Louisiana, you eat jambalaya or gumbo (right?). Anyways, the original place I wanted to go to was the Jambalaya Shoppe. However, it was Sunday, so most places were closed. I found Rice & Roux online and saw they had jambalaya so we decided to order online through their website. I had ordered the small Pastalaya (jambalaya with noodles instead of rice) combo, so I subbed cornbread for the roll and got the side salad. My husband got the regular jambalaya with corn on the cob and fries. We ordered and were waiting, all excited to eat this food. After about an hour and a half, we were starting to get worried so we called the restaurant. It turns out that the food was ready for a while, and it was f**king DOORDASH that didn't pick it up! They offered a full refund but I really wanted the jambalaya so we turned it down. In order for one of the staff members to deliver it to us, we would have to call DoorDash and have them cancel the service and then they could deliver it to us. But we were both hungry as hell so we decided to just go there and pick it up ourselves. The staff members at the restaurant were really nice about it and printed the ticket with the customer service number for DoorDash. We called DoorDash on the way back to the hotel and my husband was put on hold for like 45 minutes. Of course, DoorDash said we have to go through the restaurant to get a refund. (F**k DoorDash btw, I'll never use them again.) The food was delicious though, and totally worth the wait. The pastalaya was so good and flavorful, not too spicy, but just enough for a kick. Despite the horrible experience courtesy of DoorDash, I did like the restaurant and I would recommend it.

I pretty much stayed at this place when I was living on this side of town and before jambalaya shoppe was built right down the street from it. They have a very extensive menu to find a little something for everybody. Their jambalaya is good but it's not the best in BR. Sometimes the rice can be crunchy or very wet if that makes sense which throws it off a little. But it is still good so I am not knocking it just the texture can be questionable on occasion. I usually get the fish plate with double chicken and sausage jambalaya and upgrade my roll to cornbread. The cornbread is always so good. Worth the 50 cent up charge for that buttery homemade stuff. I am not being fan of their gumbo as the roux isn't the best but some people might like it. I'm just not a big fan.

This is a cute shop. I ordered from the counter for take-out. The jambalaya was pretty good; I still prefer more seasoning and a moister texture, but it was good. I got the seafood gumbo and we weren't thrilled with that ... it was very "fishy" so I'm thinking it was an older batch. It just didn't taste fresh. It could have used more crab (I didn't see or taste any crab). It also needed a little more seasoning and I prefer a darker roux. Overall, it was ok. I'd give them another chance.

Ordered Gumbo and bread pudding. Both were underwhelming to say the least. No season no flavor. Maybe just a bad day or maybe not

When I arrived I was 12th in line but it was still only a 10 minute visit---at the counter they had 3 people---1 solely to take orders and fill orders, another who rang you up and the other helped the two described above. They had boiled crawfish and boiled shrimp--the boiled shrimp was sold with or without heads. Additionally they had the customary fixings such as potatoes and corn. All of the orders ahead of me ordered some or all as described---not sure what else they had on Sunday besides this but nothing else was needed. As for the boiled crawfish, I was very impressed with the size of the bugs and the flavor---seasoning was great for me but others may prefer it even hotter. I will return.

I noticed that there were many employees standing around doing nothing, although I expect that later that evening, the place got really , Although the place was nearly empty, they still seated us close to the door to the kitchen, which I really didn't appreciate. We both ordered the softshell crawfish, and I was delighted that they brought out hush puppies at no charge as soon as we sat down. It didn't take long for them to bring out the soft shell crawfish along with a dipping sauce that was something unfamiliar. My friend didn't really like it, and I used it, but was rather ambivalent about it. The soft show crawfish seemed overcooked to me, and I've had fried crawfish tails many times that were much better. At least I can now say that I have actually had the chance to try a softshell crawfish. Also, since the proceeds from sale of the softshell crawfish, we're going to medical expenses for the owner's daughter's liver transplant, I was happy to contribute to that cause. I would go back to Dukes again, but I would order something other than the softshell crawfish.

The crawfish were flavorful, seasoned well, and priced right, which is honestly the perfect combination when you're sitting down ready to eat. They weren't that great, if I'm being honest, but I was hungry so they got the job done. The crawfish are clearly the star of the show here anyway. The atmosphere felt relaxed and unpretentious, exactly the kind of place you want for seafood with friends, cold drinks, and a table full of shells piling up by the minute. I called to place the order (4 meals: 2 salmon, 2 pasta with wings) on Wednesday afternoon for pickup on Friday at 11:30 (I also paid for it during the call). Total for four meals: $113.00 I arrived today at 11:38 AM, deciding on the way there that since they opened at 11:30 I would give them a few minutes to make sure the orders were ready to go since our lunch meeting was at noon. When I arrived, I gave them my name and told them I was there for the pickup order. The front person did not know what I was talking about. Another person (I assume the owner) told her that it was a call in, and that the order was on the side of the register (it was). I was told it would be a few minutes. At 11:47, the front person comes to me and asks if I was in a time crunch because they could deliver. I told her that I was and had to be back at 12. At 11:56, she comes back and asks me if I would like to substitute lamb chops for the salmon and there wouldn't be an addition charge. She said they had just put the salmon on the grill. At 11:56 - it had been almost 20 minutes since I had arrived to pick everything up. I told her no substitutions because the people who ordered salmon had dietary restrictions. There was no offer of a beverage while I waited, no additional updates on a time for my order or anything. At 12:12, I finally got the orders, an apology for the wait, and an offer to take a drink on the way out. All of that to find that the pasta was too salty. I didn't even eat most of the meal. If this were not a company-sponsored lunch, I would have cancelled the order and gone somewhere else. This is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. I don't mind waiting for food, but this order was placed on Wednesday afternoon. Today is Friday - there is no excuse for my order not being at least halfway ready when I got there. I will not be returning, and my company will not be ordering from here again.
