Now, I wasn't really happy about our seat but I couldn't see behind the wall to know if there was another table to request to move to. We were sat in the front corner I guess directly under a vent and it was already chilly outside. I didn't let it bother me because I really wanted to try ERRTHANG on the menu. Now, this is where I was about to get up and leave. We sat for a good while and NO ONE came to greet, take a drink order, or even ask have we been helped. I want to say it's because we were somewhat out of sight. Because it was freezing I got up and asked for another table, which was on the other side of the wall with all the other customers and much warmer even with the patio bar doors open. No, I don't remember my waiters name, but he came over immediately and apologized for us being stranded in the back. We went on to order our drinks which came fairly quickly and we ordered our food. I was kind of disappointed because he said they no longer served fried crab legs and should be taken off the menu, but that's OK. I was ready to order something else. I had Chef Mo's Shrimp & Grits and when I say it's the best shrimp and grits I've ever had in my life. It was amazing. The grits were three cheese grits with crawfish, étouffée, and large perfectly shrimp with some BOMB jalapeño beef sausage, which I would have removed, but I said let's do it. Best decision I've ever made. I cannot stop thinking about the grits. My friend ordered the Cajun fried fish and grits with a side of eggs (no pic). We both raved the entire time about how creamy and delicious the grits were. I didn't need to add anything, no butter, no salt, no sugar. They were absolutely amazing and I'm not even a huge grits fan. Now, the fish, the menu stated half a pound, which came out to be one small piece of whiting. I guess I was expecting a bigger piece or maybe two pieces because it was so tiny but that baby filet was seasoned to the gods, I mean perfect. The breading was so flavorful but not overpowering or salty. The eggs tasted like the eggs I had in the marines out of a bag, but he mix them with the grits and was fine. Everything was so good that we thought about coming back later that night to try something else. Please bring back the deep-fried crab legs

We started our evening with a Lychee Martini and smoked coconut old fashioned, fantastic craft cocktails. The butternut squash soup was delicious, thick and rich. The Caesar salad is a table side presentation and just as delicious. Our entrees were the curry snapper and the lemon pepper snapper. We couldn't decide who made the better choice. They were both amazing. We ended the evening with the flambe' bananas, another table side presentation. The pianist, Rufus was great, and the entire staff was warm and welcoming. Both dishes were so good. We also tried the escovitch fish, which was very tasty. It was a little small for the market price, but the flavors were definitely there--nothing was left on the bone. Highly recommend, and I will definitely be back. We went on a Friday when there was a live DJ, which added to the great atmosphere. At times the music was a bit loud and made it hard to have a conversation, but the DJ was playing great music. If the volume were lowered just a little, it would be the perfect balance.

Whatever seasoning they use is chef's kiss -- I selected garlic as a topping but I could tell there was more going on. The crab meat was warm and perfectly seasoned too. My only note: the 16oz eats more like a side salad than a main dish. For $13 it's competitive with a Sweetgreen or Cava, so next time I'm just sizing up to the 32oz. Service : 8/10 -- The young lady at the register was pleasant and made sure my order was complete. I did wait an extra 5-8 minutes past my 5:55 pickup time, but nothing major. Ambiance : 9/10 -- Not your average salad spot. The vibe is cozy -- think relaxed bar & lounge on a smaller scale. Love that the menu item names are fun and creative, though the menu itself feels a little busy and could be simplified. I'd love to see Kenny Kale franchised on a larger scale someday. Overall: 9/10 -- Kenny Kale is killing it and is def a keeper on my list I found this place and ordered the same day -- that's how excited I was. I'm genuinely thrilled to have a unique, healthy restaurant in the area that isn't another Chipotle, Tropical Smoothie, or..... fried chicken spot that keep getting placed in Black communities instead of diverse, health-forward choices. And did I mention it was black-owned?! lol nonetheless, it's a literal breath of fresh air. I'll definitely be back!

I decided to to bold and ordered the chicken and biscuits. Unlike the photos I saw on Yelp, they now give you two chicken biscuits and hash browns. I asked for the hot honey on the side but it was liquid instead of thick. It was delicious but not as spicy as I had expected. The biscuits were superb! So thick and flaky, freshly baked. I wish I had some jam on the side. The fried chicken was solid but thin so a little dry. My spouse had the burger and he said it was amazing. The fries are great but some were a little too salty. What was mind blowing and the reason we came in the first place were the Ted's Tarts. I absolutely love pop tarts from child hood but no longer eat them because I know better but these were the tarts of my adulthood dreams. We ordered one of each flavor because we were flying back to CA later that evening and also, why not? The fillings were rich and ultra flavorful. The pastry was flaky and delicate. Just WOW! I chose Ambar for my group, and I'm very pleased with our selection. Food Most of our group had dietary restrictions. Several of us were gluten free, and one person was both nut and seafood free. Ambar did an excellent job curating a menu that worked for everyone without making anyone feel like an afterthought. We opted for the Chef's Table experience, which included a spread tasting with veggie sticks and a variety of dishes that were clearly labeled and thoughtfully prepared: * Bean hummus - GF / DF / NF * Ajvar - GF / DF / NF * Balkan salad - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without feta cheese) * Baby carrots - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without tofu sauce) * Roasted peppers - GF / DF / NF * Cauliflower - GF / DF / NF * Baked beans - GF / DF / NF * Roasted lamb - GF / DF / NF * Stuffed pork belly "Sarma" - GF / DF / NF * Brussels sprouts - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without yogurt and bacon) * Seafood platter Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The meal was so delicious that I didn't even manage to get photos of everything, which rarely happens for me. Just know we dined very well and left completely satisfied. Service The staff was wonderful from start to finish. From the event team member who served as our account manager, to the chef, to the servers and wait staff, everyone was attentive and accommodating. They handled our dietary needs with care and professionalism and made sure our group felt taken care of throughout the evening. Pricing We paid a set fee that we were able to negotiate, and the final rate wasn't too bad for a group experience like this. Just keep in mind that there is an admin fee, a 20% gratuity, and taxes added on top, so be sure to factor that into your planning if you're booking a group event. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Ambar for group dining, especially if you have guests with dietary restrictions. They made coordination easy, delivered great food, and created a memorable dining experience for our team.

THIRD TIMES THE CHARM!…read more This is my second time dining at Lydia's on H (third visit). My first time was Valentine's Day, and the restaurant, while calm, was chaotic, AKA the full menu was not available. The second attempt to dine there, the staff member (whose name I forgot, please charge it to my head and not my heart!) informed us before we sat down that the evening service was a limited menu. To entice us to return and ensure consistent customer-centric service, the bar manager invited us to return on the first night and asked the staff to inform us when we arrived. Sure enough, the next day, when we arrived, there was a note for the staff informing them that they should be expecting us. The vibe in Lydia's is always chill! The music is always good and at a volume where you and others can still enjoy each other's company with conversation if desired. Overall, the food, service, and ambiance at this establishment should be the standard for many others. Well done, Lydia's. We are excited to come back and try the steak-and-cheese egg rolls next time.

Food looks better than it tastes...just hear me out!…read more We decided to close out Black History Month by supporting a Black-owned establishment, very intentional, very on brand for us. It was also my first time trying Malawian cuisine, so I was genuinely excited to experience something different. I went with a group of friends after an event, which worked out perfectly because we were able to taste a little bit of everything. I ordered the Brussels sprouts as my starter; they were good, nicely seasoned. My only issue? Timing. They didn't come out first. Everyone else had their food, and my "starter" came right before my entrée, which kind of defeated the purpose. For my main, I had the shrimp and salmon rasta pasta. It was good...creamy, flavorful, but definitely spicy. Not unbearable, just be prepared if heat isn't your thing. My mocktail was refreshing and good too... just small. A couple real sips and it was gone. Overall, the service was good. They were accommodating and made sure our group was seated comfortably, even moving tables around so we had a better setup. I appreciated that. The ambiance was very Black eclectic: cool R&B vibes, nice energy, a solid spot to gather and vibe. Checl out my pics! I'll be rating each dish I tried on a 10 point scale. Would I return? Probably not. It wasn't bad; it just didn't wow me. And in the DMV, there are way too many other spots on my list to try.
