Wow! First time in Asheville and were recommended Rhubarb by a friend. DO NOT SKIP!!! Every bite is packed with beautiful and complex flavors and the quality really shines. This farm to table joint is made even better by the wonderful servers and kitchen staff. What a find! We LOVED Rhubard last night - Thursday. Half off wine bottles night - so THAT was fabulous. The food was AMAZING! LOVE their whole seasonal farm to table approach. Supporting all our favorite local farmers is super important to us. We just ate our way through the menu. The bread service - Don't miss it! I don't even like honey and I loved this freshly made, warm zucchini bread and whipped butter & honey combo. Summer Salad was too die for with the goat chess and peaches - sooo good. Fried Gnudi - fabulous. Roasted Beet Salad - incredible. AND - it's all such beautiful food which makes it so much better for me! We sat on the outdoor covered patio and got to listen to a local busker that was so beautiful. It rained a titch which made it even more special. I am not normally a fan of these. Chicken Pot Pie Fritters: Another winner, I could have eaten several of them! House Seasonal Bread: Literally the best thing on the menu, so bummed that I didn't take a picture of it! Served in a large, ramekin-style dish, it was fantastic and I would have eaten so much more. Wood-Roasted Chicken: Not much to it. Roasted Brussels Sprouts: Definite miss. Looking for it to be flaky and crunchy but instead it was just hard. Perhaps it was out of season. Garlic Roasted Root Vegetables: Another miss, lacking in flavor and also very hard. Buttermilk Smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes: Another one for the win column! Apple Crisp: The smoked cinnamon ice cream was quite good, and I liked the apple part, but it wasn't served warm, which seemed like a definite opportunity to end on a high note. We enjoyed this farm to table restaurant! Our server, Nicholas, helped a lot with my sister's dietary restrictions. He checked things with the chef, offered menu suggestions, and was attentive and friendly. We sat in a nook by ourselves and it was so fun! So happy Rhubarb re-opened! It continues to be an incredible restaurant for food, service and cocktails(really nice old-fashioned). Mallory is doing Rhubarb proud! The steak tartare and goat cheese burrata are a must. My husband claims the tartare to be the best in the AVL. The duck confit agnolotti is to die for. The menu is so exciting - I love all the local and Appalachian ingredients they use! It's not often you find places that put such an emphasis for the kinds of ingredients that are local but not really used in American culinary settings - daylily blossoms, juneberries, sorghum. Even the tea is from a local tea company. We got the hoe cakes, green garlic bread, beet salad, hushpuppies. It looks like it's not currently on the menu (we went 4 months ago) but it was a dish that involved I think braised beef and olives - if I remember it I will update my review, because it was one the most perfect entrees I've ever eating. Really exceptional. Service was very good and ambiance was nice. I would definitely go back if I'm visiting Asheville again to see what other local ingredients I might be able to try next! read more

Let me start by saying that if your restaurant is called Rhubarb, one would expect that anything made with rhubarb would be exceptional. Alas, this was completely opposite from my experience at Rhubarb. I'll start with my initial rant: we ordered the rhubarb pie with visions of sweet and tangy rhubarb in a flaky buttery crust. Instead we were served soggy rhubarb, visually unappealing and small and with brown burnt crust. My meal was also borderline inedible. I had a house smoked sausage that was dry and unseasoned. The beans underneath were bland. My brown food was plated on a brown plate and oh my!, it looked as untasty as it was. Husband had the smoked pork Osso bucco. Overcooked and charred on the outside. Rhubard is BACK!!! We were pleasantly surprised to see Rhubarb open again - and it was EXCELLENT. The menu was elevated, local, and downright incredible. One of my favorites was the southern take on a Greek favorite (dolmades) using collard greens - trust me you have to try this. Each course was exquisitely presented (with hearty portions). The salad was perfection - and the very fun "naked cheese sticks" (actually polenta delicately topped with a feta cheese) were soooo yummy. And if you go - you MUST have the olive oil chocolate cake - wow, wow, wow!! Service was wonderful. read more

As this restaurant received such great views, I had to visit! The atmosphere is ok, a bit industrial like, thus not very comfortable for sitting. I did receive a great table in the window which was ideal for people watching. The open kitchen concept is nice as well! For dinner I ordered the goat burrata. It was good but not great. The dish was not presented that well and tasted a bit bland. For dinner I had the trout. The fish unfortunately had too much salt: what a waste. The filet was actually a nice cut. As for the sides on the trout plate: the garbanzo beans were good but had pickles in the mixture- odd combo. The green were tough to cut. As there are so many great restaurants in Asheville, I unfortunately would probably not come back to this establishment and would recommend other to try another popular location. read more

This is one of those places we've walked by many times and said, "we need to try that". We finally did last week and weren't disappointed. The food was authentic and flavorful with small, medium and larger entree-size offerings for sharing. The indoor dining space and warm and inviting. They also have a large dog-friendly patio. I was looking forward to a creative and well prepared meal based on reviews and perusing the menu but was sadly disappointed. The "simple salad of hearty local lettuces" had raw brussel sprouts leaves, which I later found out were supposed to be deep-fried. They removed the charge from my bill but not till I complained about raw cabbage leaves on the trout entree and said why do they keep serving indelible raw vegetables. That's when the manager came over and I told her the trout was salty. She had a new one prepared and this time the cabbage was sauteed. For dessert the pot de chocolate was supposed to have "meringue" but it was a soft white, untoasted mess on top, along with a chocolate chip cookie that seemed out of place - I sent it back and asked for the check. read more

As a foodie, I was excited to make my first visit to Asheville. It has become a mecca for fine dining. I attended the James Beard Awards this year and witnessed two Asheville restaurants (Curate and Chai Pani) both win national recognition. I would have loved to have dined at Curate, but it's closed on Monday. So I went with Rhubard, whose chef has been nominated multiple times. We left Rhubarb underwhelmed by our experience. I love the taste and richness of butternut squash soup, so I tried the Peanut and Butternut Squash Soup. What an odd combination. After two spoonfuls, I said no more. I was surprised our server didn't say something when he removed the nearly full bowl. My wife loves burrata as a starter, but we were surprised to see it served with big slices of toasted bread. We ordered the Rhu Bread Service, but our server should have told us that we didn't need to order more bread. That's the way evening went. Our two entrees were excellent. I ordered the Grilled Marksbury Farm Teres Major Steak, that featured two large, super tender medallions. My wife ordered the Smoked Ashley Farms Half Chicken, which is a large portion that two could share. To prepare it, the chicken is soaked in a cider brine. The skin had a strong salty taste, but was moist and tasty inside. After clearing our entrees, our server didn't ask us if we wanted dessert and presented our check. Why would you assume we didn't want it? I will be surprised if someone from the restaurant reaches out to me to learn more about my experience. We still gave our server a 20% tip, even with the service miscues. read more

For our 8th year anniversary, my husband made dinner reservations for us at Rhubarb. Rhubarb is dog friendly, which was important to us, because we wanted to bring our dog along with us. Rhubarb's outdoor seating is completely covered, which is great for rainy and winter days, AND for bringing your dog with you to dinner. To celebrate our anniversary, we selected the Raffaldini, a local NC red blend, which was very cool. The wines are very reasonably priced, which I can appreciate. For food, my husband and I shared some kind of pate, the gumbo, the braised lamb shank, and the carrot cake for dessert. Unfortunately, the pate, the braised lamb shank and carrot cake all tasted very mediocre. The gumbo was an Appalachian styled gumbo, not like gumbo from Louisiana, so that was interesting to us, and tasted pretty nice. Rhubarb was named one of the best restaurants in Asheville, and for the prices they were charging, I was expecting really tasty food and larger portions. I really want to support and like Rhubarb, because their staff members were so sweet and accommodating, and they are dog friendly. Unfortunately, their food was just ok. read more

Rhubarb was another recommended restaurant to us for Asheville! It was a fun little date night farm table style. Featuring lots of local produce/meats with farms local to NC! We loved that they support local farmers as we both grew up on farms that provide grains and beef. We loved our cocktails, are varying entrées, and the sorbet dessert. The choices were a little bit more limited to me being gluten and dairy free but our server was very kind and working with me to figure out what options I could have. I don't give 2-star reviews often but I just can't rate this place higher. My husband & I eat out a lot, at many different restaurants all across the price spectrum. We were visiting Asheville and as I heard from a friend that the previous chef from Blackberry Farm was here, we were intrigued as that's a highly regarded resort with amazing food. Everything was a disappointment here unfortunately. From the lackluster service, unmemorable drinks, poorly executed food... there was truly nothing we really liked. This place is much more casual than I expected given the price points and boasting such an inventive farm-to-table culinary experience. Cornbread was dry, bitter (and I don't mean unsweet, we are use to real southern cornbread) & overall unenjoyable. We also had the short rib and we were served one whole portion (there was 3 smaller pieces) that was pure fat. How could they serve that? Our server was nearly nonexistent and we literally had to flag someone else down to get our check after waiting much too long. It's a hard pass for me & I do not recommend it. read more

My wife and I dined at Rhubarb during a recent trip to Asheville. We had a later reservation on a Wednesday night and were promptly seated in a lovely table near the window. We also had a nice view of the open kitchen in the back as well as the chefs table. The restaurant was less crowded than I would have expected but that may have been due to it being later in the season. Our server was quite prompt and we quickly got two cocktails which were excellent. We ordered the mouse, burrata, bouillabaisse, and sweet potato. The mouse itself was very good but i did not love it with the crispy lavash. The Burrata was out of this world and paired amazing with the sweet onions and vinaigrette. It was one of the best Burrata dishes I have ever had. The bouillabaisse had plenty of seafood and a great low country kick. I almost couldn't finish it given how rich it was. Overall the food and service were excellent clearly making Rhubarb one of the top restaurants in Asheville. read more

Won't lie, this wasn't our first option, but was so glad we ended up here. The food was delicious and the dessert! Woah, the peaches and cream was the best dessert I've had in a while. Wasn't too sweet, which is my preference and it was cold which made it all the more better in the heat. We sat outside since we had our dogs, and the waiters were super accommodating and sweet. Although it wasn't like other places around that had dog menus etc, they brought out water containers for our pups, and brought us some chopped carrots for them to munch on when we requested it and were super sweet. really enjoyed this place and our pups loved the carrots and water, thank you! read more

Got the hoe cakes, duck wings, wedge salad, goat cheese burrata, and hush puppies. All were a hit but the hoe cakes - it was the only thing we didn't finish (just didn't resonate with us.) The duck wings were different and tasty, the goat cheese burrata disappeared quickly (and we asked for more of the bread-it was very nice), and the salad and hush puppies were solid. These were shareable plates, and they worked well for four people to get decent-sized sampling portions. If you're hearty eaters (or really hungry) you'll probably need to order more. (We'd had a big lunch so weren't famished.) The atmosphere is kinda rustic, very pleasant. Service was helpful and attentive. read more

Exceptional! Rustic interior with an open concept kitchen. Really enjoyed being seated near it. The menu is creative with surprising ingredients packed into each item. Very accommodating for my dairy allergy - I was dining with a large group and was given my own annotated version of the menu so I would know what my options were. I was willing to forgo an appetizer, but Allyson + the kitchen came up with a veggie plate for me! I was surprised and really just amazed at all the flavors on the plate. I ordered the scallops and the modified plate of them was delicious. So many different flavors included and it was plated beautifully. I loved their wine menu and the Te-pach-eh cocktail. Finished the meal with lime sorbet which had flavor that transported me to a pier at the beach. I'm so grateful for the excellent kitchen here and Allyson! Her ideas were insightful, helpful, and delicious. Bonus points for her suggestion for a member of my party to have a dessert wine spritz. Menu: incredibly creative, thoughtful use of seasonal ingredients that made "farm to table" even more inspired. Less inspiring, however, was the blunt force & heavy handed use of oil/butter. Service was top notch. Attentive and friendly but not overbearing. They have a nice outdoor area that was pretty much enclosed with plastic on a chilly evening. Our dog was very welcome on the patio, which is always a big plus for us. The food was fine, but not remarkable. I like the idea of farm to table dining, but my trout was not terribly exciting. The wild mushroom and the chowder sauce were delicious, the grit cake was dry and odd, and the green vegetable was pretty tough. My husband's steak was good, but again not exactly newsworthy. Decent wine list and we really liked the Albariño we ordered. A little overpriced for the meal, especially if you are hungry as the portion sizes are modest. I'd maybe give this 3.5 stars, but I rounded up to 4 because they brought out complementary bubbly since we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. read more

This is a cute upscale restaurant in the heart of downtown. Great location and easy to get a table. Outdoor seating is available however it's slightly loud since it's next to the Main Street. The food overall was okay. We had the short rib, burrata cheese, the turnips, bread and hush puppies. They are small portions so you won't get full off of one dish. The service was great.
