Although I wanted to go blonde, after a consultation with Keisha she was honest and told me I'd damage my hair considering I'd dyed it black and lifting it would ruin me. Some beauticians don't give a damn and still would've done it but she saved me from ruining 2 years of being natural for a color I would've gotten tired of in a month. I appreciate that. She was kind and understanding of my rants on how I wanted to be blonde although she wasn't letting it happen lol! Professional and caring. Instead she blessed my hair with a wash, deep condition, press and trim. My hair has never been shinier, fuller or softer. Much love to this place. PS: great ass music and a lot of places to eat around the shop too.

Mary mentioned that she used to own a salon, and after this experience, I understand why she no longer does. The color is completely off, the highlights are uneven, and the overall result is just terrible. I have thin hair, and the haircut with multiple layers made everything worse-- and throughout the process I was literally being hit in the face with my own wet hair as she cut. It felt chaotic and unprofessional. The result was such a disaster that I had to go to another salon and pay a significant amount to fix it. The hairstylist there was shocked and kept repeating that some people simply should not be doing hair. I spent an entire week tying my hair up just to hide how bad it looked. To make matters worse, the payment experience was incredibly uncomfortable. I paid her immediately via Zelle and even tipped her in cash. Because the transfer wasn't instant (we have different banks), she became upset and made me stay while I called my bank to prove that I had paid. It was humiliating and unnecessary. Afterward, I sent her photos to show how disastrous the result was, and her only response was to tell me to book another appointment. There is no way I would trust her to fix this. I asked for a refund, which I now realize I likely won't receive after seeing other similar reviews. This was an extremely disappointing and stressful experience. I strongly recommend going elsewhere.

She has never had short hair so Roger cut and styled me first so that she could see that it's not so bad after all! Roger is a master and a true hair doctor. I had A LOT of hair and it's very thick. He combed my fro out gently and cut each curl and lock. Then washed and deep conditioned and then returned me to the chair for final styling. And he left me with a lovely curly fro. He then cut and styled me sister and got rid of the heat damage she had and resulted in a really chic hair cut that made her look even prettier than she already is! Later that week after admiring my sister's hair I decided to go lower (hey hair grows back!) I was able to book a same day appointment and Roger fit me in, giving me a bold low cut. We also had an amazing conversation on work/life balance and finding one's passion that I'm still thinking about! And after all this he said that it was no charge! I've only ever seen Janelle (from the time she worked at Time Studio, Inc and even when she moved…read moreto Neal's salon) and she's always been great. She's well-versed in hair care and takes her time on her cutting, coloring and styling. Her portion of this review is FIVE STARS! However, I'm leaving a 2 star review for the nail services. I called the salon - which I only love 5 minutes from, back in May for an appointment with Phelisia. I was told that her calendar was full for June but would open on June 25th for July. I advised that I was a new client and would call back on the 25th to schedule. On June 25th, the salon was closed for business but the calls are still answered so I was told to call back on June 26th to schedule. On the 26th I was advised that as of the Saturday before (6/22), Phelisia told the front desk staff that she's not accepting new clients for July. I advised that I had been planning to make this appointment for 6 weeks and that fell on deaf ears. When I questioned when she'd be opening her books for new clients, I was told there wasn't a date (that it would likely not be 'forever'). I say all this to say, as a black-owned hair/nail studio that not only I patronized but have had others close to me patronize/become repeat customers (in the heart of Fort Greene where gentrification has taken over), it's important to communicate accurately so that people aren't taken by surprise like this. In my gut, I felt like this appointment would never happen anyway because the artist only provides a phone number on her IG page and doesn't answer direct messages regarding her services. Always a red flag, in hindsight. My recommendation: if you're looking for convenience, don't bother trying to book for Phelisia's book. The attached photo is from her Instagram story on 6/26 that still doesn't advise that she's not taking new clients but when you call and ask - they explain that bookings are for existing clients only. I sincerely feel for those who waited like I did only to be denied an appointment. A friend of mine actually decided not to pursue these services as well because of this. Just BAD BUSINESS! I'm not sure about the work of the other artist (Veronica) but one might have better luck getting in with her. Anything else is a waste of precious time to be frank.
