I want to start off by saying that my experience with staff during my visits has always, ALWAYS been great. From the very first time I walked in and sat at the bar with my friend, every bartender has been great, friendly, engaging, very much excited to talk about the products, excellent drinks. Terrific. I liked it so much that I wanted to throw an event there and this is where my experience turns left. I emailed the events coordinator, no response. We actually went back and spoke with staff and they said they'd also try to send an e-mail. Nothing. When the events manager said it would require paying for the entire space and quoted me an astronomical number which obviously I didn't even entertain. Fast forward to that day and I brought some people there for cocktails anyway. There were like 6 people-I was quoted like 7500 to close out the room. I doubt they made 7500 that day, and now it makes sense that they've been 'temporarily closed' for a few months.

It was better than we could have imagined and very strong. The maraschino cherry was delicious. The covered patio was great. Although, all the seating is barstool height. The quality and taste are truly top-tier. When we go with a group of friends, we like to order a flight so everyone can try different flavors. The whiskey is strong, but still very smooth and tasty. They also have a limited edition release called Nancy's Pick at the beginning of every month, and it usually sells out within a few days. That alone tells you how popular it is. We like bringing friends here when they visit Austin, and it's also a great place to grab a bottle or two as souvenirs when traveling out of state to visit family or friends. Good whiskey, good vibe, and super friendly staff. Definitely worth checking out.

This is a unique venue in that it's a bit off the beaten path near driftwood, up in a hilly area. GPS guided us there just fine. The distillery is attached to a church and wedding venue, and the wizard academy (which our friend attended for his whiskey sommelier certification). I think the distillery is their own separate business and entity but the property all seems like one thing. The bartender said crowded barrel isn't run or connected to the wizard academy but they are friendly given the shared love of whiskey. At the whiskey academy, so somewhere on the property, is the wizard's whiskey vault. Now that's a room I'd like to get into. But, I'm not trying to be a whiskey Somme, so I'll likely never see it in person. We had a few cocktails and couple of straight pours. If we had come earlier in the day, I would have done a flight in addition, to get more tastes. Come with at least an hour to spend here. I enjoyed the Anejo agave (tequila) spirit and we bought a bottle of the Snake Wood Whiskey. This is a fun and uniquely flavored whiskey. It's a bourbon finished with Brazilian Amburana Oak which lends an interesting cinnamon like taste. But it's not cinnamon, it's like reminiscent of baking spices. Very tasty. The staff were friendly and happy to chat about whiskey. We enjoyed our time there, wish we had been able to spend just a little bit longer but such is life :)

While the tasting flight gave me a deep appreciation for the spirit on its own, I found that sotol truly sings in cocktails, where its earthy elegance can mingle and unfold alongside bright, bold flavors. The on-site bar offered a handful of inventive, locally-rooted options, but one drink in particular bloomed on the palate like a cactus flower after rare desert rain: a Prickly Pear Margarita. We went into the Bottle Shop & Mercantile building which has a tasting bar with tables & chairs, and a sitting area with a big screen tv. They have lots of outdoor seating area to enjoy with live entertainment. Pet friendly. You can also do a tour of the distillery which we did not get to do, but will go back soon to do it. Met a friend who lives in Dripping Springs at Dripping Springs distillery (DSD) to here some music…read more While we missed the live music, it was a great opportunity to catch up, DSD is known for their vodka and gin. We sat outside under the wooden canapy patio. A cool breeze permeated throughout the patio. The wind was gently blowing and branches on the oak trees swayed back and forth. So peaceful...there were a number of family and friends groups chatting it up. My friend ordered a pizza and I got hamburger and fries. We were pleased with our meals. It was self-pickup. There is a pick-up window in the center of the building. No table service. Although it is a distillery, the standout is the family orientation and focus on connection. The back yard is huge with yard games. There were about 20 children playing in the yard.

Whether you are a local hosting out-of-towners or looking for a professional team-building outing, Austin Detours provides a seamless, stress-free way to experience the best of Central Texas. 5/5 recommend! Our day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met our driver, Luke, who was fantastic throughout the trip. We hopped into a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van for a smooth 40-minute drive out to the hills. One of the best parts of these tours is the people you meet. Our group included travelers from Ontario and Brazil, and it was wonderful swapping stories about their first impressions of Texas while we cruised toward our first stop. We started strong at this legendary BBQ spot - The Salt Lick. After placing our orders for some of that famous fall-off-the-bone brisket, we took a quick walk over to Salt Lick Cellars to grab some wine. Pro tip: Salt Lick is BYO, so being able to grab a bottle right there to pair with the BBQ is a game changer. Next up was Driftwood Estate Winery which was pure relaxation. We grabbed a bottle, found a spot under a massive oak tree, and just took in the incredible Hill Country views. Our new international friends joined us after their tasting, and the conversation was just as good as the wine. Our final stop at Fall Creek Vineyards was originally meant for a formal tasting, but the interior was buzzing and a bit loud. Since the Texas weather was doing us a massive favor -- sunny and nearly 80°F in February! -- the group opted to buy a few bottles and head outside to the fire pit. It was the perfect way to wind down. The drive back to the Austin Visitor Center flew by. We were all chatting, sharing snacks, and enjoying a final beverage in the van. A few things to keep in mind: The $69 price is for the expert guide and transport. You'll want to budget about $35 for BBQ and $10-$25+ for wine tastings/bottles. The Vibe was incredibly flexible. Whether you want to do a formal tasting or just split a bottle by a firepit with new friends, the pace is up to you.
