Cod fish tasted good - not heavy - small portions
Mary L.

Food tastes good. Small portions for the price. The staff is very nice and attentive.

Wine list, by region

Cozy neighborhood restaurant with excellent food and polite and personable staff. Good selection of affordable and select regional wines. The homemade jam with the bread was a very nice touch. Squash and creme soup with kale was very good, but I entertained myself trying to get the long slices of kale to behave themselves and get onto the spoon. Perhaps the kale could be chopped into shorter strips. Duck and mushroom risotto was delicious. The chocolate trio for dessert (I wish I could remember the names that were more sophisticated than "cookie, brownie and mousse" with slices of kiwi) made for a nice finish. The restaurant is at the intersection of Rua do Olival and Largo Dr. Jose Figueiredo. It has about 25 tables front and back, so when you look in the front windows don't be fooled into thinking that there are only 3 or 4 tables. Service was very prompt, polite and professional.

Raízes - roots, what we seek in many aspects of life, culture. The food - stewed pork and beans, crusty bread and beer here satisfy deeply, memorably. Easy exchange of greetings and conversation with regular locals so pleasant.

Cod with spinach and chick peas. Delicious! May 2017
Ninja C.

I visited Lisbon recently (May 2017) and I believe I had the best meal out of the week of meals at Raizes. I ordered the pork with polenta and my guest ordered the cod with spinach and chickpeas. Fabulous! From the close attention we were given, to the impeccable wine knowledge, to the suggestions on the food, I was utterly satisfied and hopeful I would get another chance to visit this establishment. Thank you so much for the wonderful meal, but moreover, thank you for the delightful experience!

This restaurant came recommended to us by another American that ate here two nights ago. His comments were so right. Excellent service incredible salad and main courses.

It was packed with people, which was a good sign. We enjoyed all our dishes, especially the tiger prawns, octopus, and seafood rice. The sangria was average. Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

Anifa, what can I say about the most amazing human, who took time to sit and chat with every patron and regale us with stories of his life, travels, and listened to ours without judgement and with a very keen love of life. My friend forever after our trip. Everyone should have a friend like Anifa. Yash. The drinks made by Yash were short of heavenly. The world's famous mixologists have nothing on him. I know he will be a great man in any career he so chooses, and the world will be better for this. The food was amazing, every dish exquisite. The BEST Seafood Risotto I have had in my entire life. The chef, whose name escapes me, will get a Michelin star someday. I should've written down his name to follow his career. If anyone reading this has it, please dm me. The 3 nights we spent in Lisbon, all ended up at Carmo. Thanks to Anifa and Yash for an incredible time, amazing human connection, and the best meals and drinks of Lisbon. Our paths will cross again.

The choco frito had a light batter on top and you could tell it was really fresh because it was so light and bouncy. The bolinhos de bacalhau were also a highlight; creamy potato filling with codfish mixed in. The asparagus and jamon with scrambled eggs provided a nice balance to our meal. I'm always a sucker for well made scrambled eggs. My favorite dish by far was the arroz de pato. It was packed with smoked duck flavor, and accented with charred sausage and bacon on top. The dishes were on the smaller end, so we ended up getting 5-6 dishes for three people.

The fact that my husband and I got there before anyone else came, allowed us to have the most amazing conversation with the staff that works there!! Faysal greeted us and was very welcoming! As we ate dinner, Bernardo who is a waiter there, told us the history of the building etc and since no one else was there, we talked about our families and that he going to be a veterinarian...and that he has something else coming up that is going to be exciting. All through our dinner we chatted with him (as if we were having dinner at his house) and enjoyed every minute of the conversation!! It was the best part of the evening! We even got to meet Miguel the chef, and were happy to tell him his food was amazing! I can't recommend this restaurant enough!!! They only charge 19.60 euro for all you can eat!!!! I hope a lot of people read this and go to Rosa da Rua!!!

The restaurant was quaint and intimate , with a small buffet that easily fills you up. There were many options from a beef stew to a curry, a noodle dish with bacon, salad, and other options. I would definitely recommend this to all in Lisbon.

Everything from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. For my meal, I went with Açorda de Camarão, which is a bread porridge with shrimp. I jokingly referred to this dish as "Portuguese shrimp and grits". ;) The blend of flavors and seasonings was absolutely amazing. While eating the dish, I told my partner that I could eat this dish everyday and even twice on Sunday. In fact, the next day when were having having some trouble deciding on a place to have dinner, I was like let's go back to the place that has "Portuguese shrimp and grits". ;) If you are hungry, this is the place for you because the portions were huge for the price. After eating my Açorda de Camarão for lunch, I wasn't hungry again until well into the late evening - even after walking around Lisbon for most of the day. Another delicious part of our lunch - the grilled octopus. In my opinion, the octopus was perfectly grilled and seasoned with a chewy, but not too chewy, texture. I thought the prices were reasonable, especially considering the restaurant is located in a very touristy part of town. The restaurant has a nice outdoor dining area where you can enjoy your delicious food and wine while enjoying the hustle and bustle of Lisbon. I thought service was fine. Although our waiter was not the friendlies of characters, he wasn't flat out rude. When I visit Lisbon again, this restaurant (in particular the Açorda de Camarão) will definately be on my "must do" list.

Like most restaurants in Portugal you start with bread, cheese, and olives. The cheese was very smooth and the olives tasted fresh. I opted for the chicken plate and it wasn't too heavy but was jam packed with flavor. Service was pretty solid here despite the language barrier and I definitely would recommend Tascardoso to those who are nearby the area for an authentic Portuguese meal!
