Rolled into town to play a show. place fairly empty. 45 minute wait for drinks. Took longer to order. We had to take our order to go cause to took so long, found out from locals at the venue that they don't eat at this place due to racism and we have 2 people of color in the band. First time we tried this place. My husband really enjoyed his Enchiladas, Tamales and Burritos. For me my "Menudo" was a BIG HIT. Just wish it had a little more Cilantro. And my tostada was tasty but I only wanted a single. So sadly the other 2 went to waste. We shall be returning to this eatery. A good Authentic Mexican Restaurant is a hard thing to find. The only thing I can think that would make this place better is if they were to go into an all out war with the other Mexican restaurants in the area. Who can make the best tacos, and sell the for the cheapest. (I also wanted to insert a beef joke, but can't figure out what to say. Ill leave the creativity to you.) AYCE tacos?! SIGN ME UP. I went to El Mariachi last Wednesday with a friend. The service was middling, but the tacos - OH THE TACOS - were delicious and bountiful. There's a lunch buffet set up in one corner of the restaurant that featured enchilada halves (kind of weird), taquitos, and rice & beans in addition to hard and softshell tacos. They even had that crumbly white cheese. $9.50 gets you food and a soda. The building doesn't look wonderful from the outside, but it's clean and well-kept inside. El Mariachi is a Moline GEM. The décor won't impress you. The menu won't impress you. But the service and the food, THE FOOD!, will really impress you. Their buffet is killer. A couple of friends recommended El Mariachi as a place to get authentic Mexican food. I stopped in with a friend recently, and while I can't recall the names of the dishes we ordered, they were just satisfactory but not extraordinary. She ordered a heavily sauced pork dish mixed with roasted poblano peppers, and I ordered a dish with chopped steak, tomatoes and jalapenos. The cuts of meat were fairly tough, and the sauces were a bit grainy and rough around the edges. Both dishes were served with ordinary Spanish rice and refried beans. There was nothing about the food or service that made me want to return. I've heard the restaurant's buffet (served three times weekly) is OK, but I doubt I'll return to find out because there are much better Mexican restaurants in the Quad Cities. read more

Bleh. Ate here yesterday on a whim after passing this place for years. The food was just ok, not much flavor to it. The beans were probably the best out of everything ordered, the rice was hard and crunchy. The flautas were okay nothing special though. The hard shell tacos were awful- the meat was extremely dry and the shell was so stale I could hardly chew... May be TMI but I have the runs like crazy today. We visited today, expecting a refresh on some of the dishes on display, but sadly, we were not warned, so there were none, and the Sunday Brunch Buffet was a disappointment. Aweful basic Mexican food. The taco bar was$10 and didn't even have refried beans. They had beans in a soupy mix with hot dogs! Nasty! I expect to eat on foam plates at the fair, not at a sit down restaurant. I made a chicken taco and had to pick out small pieces of chicken bones. We will never go back. read more

I have lived in California, Davenport, Seattle, Chicago, Arizona. This is the best Mexican food I have ever had.

It's okay. Nothing fancy. The food is average, almost a little bland sometimes. The chips and salsa are pretty good. The chicken tasted plain and watery. Taco beef was flavorless as well. The chorizo tacos were good. I ordered a large chicken burritto once, only to discover it was about 80 percent rice. I've heard the dinner menu is much better than their basic lunch items. read more
