It was thin as it should be and not greasy at all. Wish it had been cooked with a little seasoning. Salt and fresh lemon solved that problem. 4/5 - Potato Salad: excellent. Almost addictive. Loved the fresh mache and pumpkin seed oil on it. 5/5 - Cranberry Sauce: or as I call it lingonberry sauce. Average. Tasted like out of a jar. But good. 4/5 - White Asparagus: served with a tomato herb vinaigrette with chopped egg. Wish the asparagus had been served warm then topped with the vinaigrette. Would made the dish pop. Very good. 4/5 - Atmosphere: Outside was glorious. Area was spacious. 5/5 - Service: waiter was abrupt and would disappear for lengthy times. Must have been really busy inside. 3/5 - Value: somewhat overpriced. Think the mandatory $4.80 bread service per person put it over the top. I expected outstanding bread and got a very small serving of bread and a pad of butter with a couple of tablespoons of a herb mixture.

After a early morning tour, our group met and walked over to Zum weißen Rauchfangkehrer for our lunch... about 35 people. We all grabbed a seat at the family style tables and prepared ourselves for what was about to be a very [very] robust lunch. Happily, everything was picked out for us. Our first course was a beef broth soup with one very large dumpling. Rich-tasty and delicious. Our main meal consisted of Schnitzel with potato salad. This was and remains the best schnitzel of the trip. Delicious, fresh and incredibly tasty. And, of course, we hd to end with a Strudel. This was just amazing. I also loved all the wines that we had throughout the meal The old style decor of this shop was wonderful and the service team was amazing, friendly, and helpful. Very unfortunate for a Michelin mentioned restaurant. The ox spitz has the crispy bread crumbs on top with soft meat on top a bed of veggies. Highly recommend. Vienna Schnitzel is ok but the schnitzel one is better. Service is good. The house did bring out the cucumber cold soup to clear the palate and the cold chocolate to end the meal on the house. I recommend in the winter sitting towards the back, front half can be drafty and cold. Authentic Austrian menu. And I believe in authentic Austrian style, the portions are huge. Go with an appetite. The pork schnitzel was almost the size of the platter, was well seasoned, and tender with crunchy coating. The French fries were good too. The cordon bleu looked like a schnitzel. The ham and cheese didn't quite make it to the edges. Roasted potatoes were additional. Seems family ran, less than hotel restaurant prices, and convenient.

I shake my head now in disbelief of how perfect this soup was and LUSCIOUS. It had this potato dumpling in the middle that absorbed the creamy broth with every single bite. My husband had a potato soup that included mushrooms and he was pretty much freaking out about his soup as much as I was (in his own, subdued, calm manner....opposite mine!).
