The food here was superb. The burger was to die for and the fish special was light and delightful, perfectly filling. The ambience is cool and almost sultry, which gives a fun vibe to the evening. We attended the restaurant slightly early, around 6, and service was not great but nonetheless we enjoyed our evening. Would definitely recommend, and p.s. the unlimited fries are out of this world!

Nice setting and many choices. Service could be improved-needed to give reminders and part of our orders were forgotten.

In their defense we are Americans and expect to be served or greeted at our table within 10 min. We waited about 20 min before someone even came to the table. After we ordered everything was better. The food was delicious. The filet had a real charcoal taste to it. Haddock light and flaky, Cornish hen juicy and flavorful.

Romantic French style setting has so much potential but is ruined by wait staff. We stood in front of 3 staff for 5 minutes without even a greeting despite them seeing we were there (it's a small restaurant and was very quiet). They made eye contact but totally ignored us in favour of a social chat together! Almost walked out but it was raining so we stayed. After being seated we weren't given menus. After a few minutes I politely asked for one and got an abrupt 'Yes I know!' before she picked up the menus and walked away to do something else (again, totally unrelated to servicing other customers). Finally given the lunch menu (in n English) and the dinner menu (in Dutch). Given the service so far we gave up asking and did our best to translate instead. Food ordered: soup and steak tartare. Steak tartare was disappointingly served with a steamed (not raw) quail egg which was too over cooked to be mixed into the tartare. Tasted ok - good caper taste - but I've had much much better. Soup was the consistency of blended sugo. Taste was ok but nothing noteworthy. Would I go again or recommend? Sadly not. Despite its great location and its lovely cosy/romantic French vibe, the service is poor and the food just average. With better leadership and decent training this place could be turned around.

Inside was cozy and decorated for the holidays.

Stopped into Black for a glass of OJ & a croissant for four of us; we were on a time schedule so we could not eat a full meal. Prices were fair, service was ok- slow to be greeted as there was one server who was on a call for 5 minutes before acknowledging us, and little to no engagement. The front window and inside were inviting as it was dark interior contrasted with holiday decor and lighting.

Good atmosphere with good food. Would come again in the heart of the city. Next to the river, indoor and outdoor seating are available.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

The Pantry - I hadn't had Dutch apple pie since my days waiting tables at Denny's, in the '80s & this was well worth the wait.

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. Don't make the mistake of walking past it for as long as I did!

We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!
