Great spot for dinner! This place is giving dive bar in so many ways, but the food quality is stepped up. It was very warm in the place, so keep that in mind if you're traveling in Amsterdam during a heat dome! We had a couple servers who worked with us nd both were kind and friendly. They didn't quite communicate with each other about our need to split the check a specific way, but it worked out in the end. We enjoyed some cocktails and beer (ranging from 9.50 Euro to 12 Euro), as well as the Pork Belly and Pickles to start off (21.50 Euro for 300 grams). Tasty way to start the meal. The three of us shared our mains and enjoyed what we had. The Favorite Ribs (24.50 Euro) were flavorful; the L'Incroyable 300gr (Ribeye; 34.50 Euro) was good, but our least favorite of what we ordered; the Le Cannibale Royale 170gr (burger) was super tasty. Cool ambience, kind of dark and moody, the main wall is covered with clocks of all shapes and sizes. We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. I must have walked by this place dozens of times without really knowing what was inside, but I'm so glad I finally stopped in. Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. Summary: Casual yet elevated. Had dinner with some colleagues at Cannibale Royale. The atmosphere was "pubby" but food they overachieved on food quality. We opened with the steak tartare, crispy cauliflower, and the delicious cheese. Everything we sampled was great and flavorful. For mains, we all ordered different entrees. I elected to go with the ribs based on table envy while snooping during appetizer time. The ribs were my favorite style - fragile. What I mean by that is the meat melts off the bone with minimal effort. They were also extremely messy (plus points on that) and the flavor was on point. Only issue for me was I couldn't finish them because of quantity. Yes, food won in this instance, but I will be back to try again. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They checked on us regularly and were spot on with their recommendations. I understand that there are multiple locations for Cannibale Royale. On first glance, Cannibale Royale looks like a bar. But inside, it gives elevated restaurant. There's a hustle and bustle atmosphere, lots of chatter and moving waiters and waitresses. For drinks, we ordered an Espressotini and an Aperol Spritz. Both were outstanding. For appetizers, we split the vegetarian Caesar salad and the mac and cheese. Both were some of the best we have ever had. For dinner, we ordered the Cannibale Royale's Favorite Ribs, and the Cauliflower Steak. The ribs were unbelievably tender and fell right off the bone. My friends and I came here because it's one of the only sit down restaurants that are still serving food past 9 pm. The food is just not good. My friends ordered the steak and I had the veggie burger and there was nothing to write home about. I honestly didn't think it was possible to mess up a veggie burger. My other friend also ordered a regular burger and she did not like her meal either. Walked in on a Monday at 5:30pm without a reservation and they gave us a great table and asked that I finish before the 7pm reservation. It was a Monday but this place was busy at dinner time. We arrived around 7:30pm and ended up at the bar which was fine because it was fun watching the bartender make drinks. After a round of cocktails and an appetizer, the hostess told us there was a table available which was a nice surprise since we were fine at the bar. What we ate: Cauliflower wings were really good. It's basically breaded cauliflower. The breading was nice and not too thick, perfect fried and not oily. Le Cannibale Royale burger was amazing. Walked by it the first time and did t even know it was there (too many distractions through out the touristy area). Once inside it's a great atmosphere with a unique energy and lively crowd. The food is great. (4.5 stars) The decor is rustic old European. This place is a sure bet if you are in the area. The service is fast, friendly and very efficient. The garlic bread is a must have. Why 4 stars? Because this was a pretty good take on American food. --- --- --- I love eating local and authentic cuisine, but in doing my research about traditional Dutch food, I was not super enthusiastic about trying it. Instead, we opted for Cannibale Royale. I had seen ribs on many menus, so I was curious to try Amsterdam's version of something I've eaten approximately 5,000 times in the U.S. And the burgers looked incredible, so that was a requirement too. The Cannibale Royale burger ended up being the star of the show. Honestly, if I were to do it all over again, I would skip the ribs and just have one of these all to myself without splitting both with the wife. 5-stars. The ribs were fine, but unlike in America, they only give you a small cup of sauce, so you have to use it very strategically. They had a good flavor, but were a bit dry. 4-stars. We also enjoyed the sweet potato fries and mac-n-cheese as our sides. Not amazing, but definitely better than average. 4-stars. Visited on a Tuesday afternoon, after a long travel day. We were greeted by the server who immediately asked us English or Dutch, directed us to the open seating and brought over menus. There was 2 of us and we shared the 16 piece Cannibale's Chicken Wings with a side of french fries and the L'Excentrique (crispy chicken sandwich). All the food was brought out quickly and fresh/hot! The chicken wings were good - although they are listed as spicy, I would say at most a 3/10, so not very spicy to us. The wings were extra saucy, if I ordered them again I would ask if they could either do light sauce or on the side. (Super messy, but they also provided wet wipes). The fries were just fries - crispy but still good. The chicken sandwich was the star! The fried cauliflower (think chicken wing in sauce but cauliflower) on top of the bun was absolutely delicious! I didn't have any bread as the bun is super thick but my spouse said it was good! The crispy chicken with bacon was very flavorful. No complaints - server was working alone with maybe 5-6 tables during lunch service and she was attentive and kind. All of the food was good and Goose Island beer was the perfect match for the food. Needed somewhere for a late night dinner and I'm really glad I found this place. To start, the garlic bread was absolutely delicious, and highly recommended. I ordered an old fashion that was made perfectly and my wife had some delicious Cava. For dinner I was impressed by the rib eye steak I received. It was a Tuesday night near the red light district and it was time for dinner. We couldn't decide what to eat so we decided to walk into Cannibale Royal completely blind and it was the best decision we could have made. This place was packed to the brim when we walked in but luckily a table just opened up and we were seated right away. The menu here has steaks, burgers, and a few other entrees as well as a slew of drinks and appetizers to go with them. I was looking for some substance so I settled on the Le Sympathique steak and split a side of the Rosemary French fries with my wife. The food didn't take too long to come out and it absolutely blew me away. The quality of meat was perfect, the juicy tender center was so flavourful, and each bite compared to the best steak houses I've had in Las Vegas. The Rosemary French fries were the perfect pairing and were the best version of fries I could have asked for. Overall, Cannibale Royale gets five stars for being dang near perfect. This place looks super cool inside and is covered with cool art, darker lighting, and just feels nice to be inside. I couldn't recommend this place more if I tried, seriously, this place is perfect and you need to try it yourself if you find yourself reading this. read more

Cannibale Royale was recommended to me by my friends who had been here before. Wasn't too sure what to make of the place, since the food looked pretty American. But hey, why not right? We were lucky to be able to sit down immediately as the place was pretty full and we got the last available table. Although a lot of people seem to rave about the steak or ribs, I simply couldn't do it because I had literally just eaten four hours before coming here. Besides, I kinda felt like a burger anyways. So of course I had to Le Cannibale Royale because there's no way their namesake burger would be anything short of fantastic. And you know what? They sure as hell didn't let me down! The meat in this burger was just extraordinary. Don't tell me the Europeans don't know how to make a good American-style burger, because this was excellent. Somehow, they made a burger with pulled pork, sauerkraut, cheddar cheese, sauteed onions, mustard mayo, and bourbon BBQ sauce work without one flavor overpowering everything else. I was impressed for sure! Also, my friend did get the ribs. I did try them. Not the best I've had and definitely not fall off the bone tender. But they were flavored pretty well. I can see why so many people love them, it's not like you can find pork ribs like these readily in Europe. Service was great, no complaints from me. Our group absolutely loved the sausage, thought the bread and butter and especially the Mac and cheese were fantastic, the flat iron steak was flavorful and cooked spot on. We were lucky enough to find Cannibale Royale after a late night out in Amsterdam......don't ask don't tell right? What we found was great food, a fun atmosphere and the best most enthusiastic service I've had anywhere in Europe (BY FAR) Ribs that were too much for one person and by all rights shouldn't have been that perfectly cooked that late at night..... The steak was perfect (add the chimichurri) Mac and cheese and fries next to a tall beer on the side tied it all together. We asked the waiter if we could try a small Heineken to see if it tastes much different than it does in the states (like Guinness in Dublin) The next thing you know we had 4 glasses and he joined us for a drink on the house. Came here twice during my trip to Amsterdam. The first time was fantastic and our host/waiter was great and friendly. Food was good. I very much enjoyed my ribeye steak. Cooked perfectly, very tender, and loved the course sea salt flakes on the side. The corn on the cob I probably wouldn't order again as it was just ok, sorta soggy. Garlic bread was fresh and hot, nice table starter for five euros. Also appreciate this place actually knows how to make a cocktail, as a lot of bars and restaurants in Amsterdam just pour a shot in a glass of ice and give you your mixer on the side in a bottle. Music was decent, overall fun place to hang out. The one downside is it was overly warm inside. They should turn down the heat a little bit, it was cold outside so it's not an air conditioning issue, they just have the heat cranked up too high making it stuffy and warm inside. Came back a second time and the average looking female hostess/waitress had a huge attitude which I didn't appreciate. Also completely forgot a round of our drinks that we ordered. It was such an unfortunate experience with her that I almost took off a star, but overall the food tastes good and I would definitely come back and hope she just isn't working or was having a bad day. Prices are somewhat reasonable at 26.5 euros for a decent quality 9 oz ribeye steak (with all sides and sauces a la carte so you literally only get the steak on a board with a pile of salt for the price so if you add chimichurri sauce and corn or fries it starts to add up quickly), I hope they do not raise prices as I probably wouldn't go back it if was more expensive. read more
