I had check a week ahead of time and my heart was so broken when I realized I had waited too long to get a reservation. I had come here once before two years ago with a friend and absolutely fell in love with the place and I couldn't wait to bring my mother and sister. We showed up and initially were told that they were booked but the server was so kind and asked up to wait just a moment. A table outside opened up and I was so grateful for their patience with us. We ordered the Hollandse Rijsttafel and the Moeders Spare Ribs to share and we were overwhelmed by the incredible spread that we received. We feasted like queens! Everything we had was incredible. To this day it will forever be my favorite spot for local Dutch cuisine and I'm so grateful to have been able to bring my family here for such a phenomenal meal.
Our group went here for dinner on our final night in Amsterdam. What a cool place - a restaurant where you bring a picture of your mom and it's placed on the wall as a tribute to all moms. It was just really need to look around and see the pictures of everybody's mom. Now let's talk about the food. If you are hungry Person and you generally like good size meals than this is the place for you because the portions were definitely not on the smaller side. Overall, I thought the prices were very reasonable and absolutely delicious. Considering we had a group of 15 I thought the waitress did really well with getting everybody's orders food and service in a timely manner. I would come back here and try some other Menu items because all of the food that came out of the kitchen looked amazing.
What an amazing little restaurant! We were seated immediately after coming in. The restaurant is filled with photos of the Mothers of guest. Authentic food and a vibe that is unmatched. The staff were kind, but not memorable. All except one woman who was so kind. She took the time to explain the menu to us, the concept of the restaurant, and even poured us an after dinner drink. We ordered three entrees to share and then two desserts. Food came out hot and delicious. Overall it was a great time and atmosphere! Will definitely go back.
Ambiance: vintage Dutch, Oma's house Service: Friendly home style Food: Homestyle cooking Mama's ribs were true to Mama. Seemed like we had her leftovers from earlier in the week. At least they were tender off the bone. Cole slaw and potatoes were delicious Oma style. Meatball and wieners were tasty. Just enjoyably simple. Apple Pie and ice cream were the best part of the meal. Overall, I recommend Moeders to try some traditional Dutch dishes.
Such a unique and cosy spot that you must visit. A reservation is the best way to go, the place gets packed and walk-ins aren't guaranteed a table. I came here for the traditional Dutch food and that's what I got. One thing about the Nederlanders, they love carbs. For starters I had the pea soup that is served with a side of bread. My main course was the stamppot which was one of my favorite dishes in Amsterdam. Portions are huge as I couldn't finish my dish, great to share. The staff is friendly and attentive.

The service is amazing everyone so attentive even though it was packed. The interior is decorated with pictures of mothers from all over! Walking home today I see a queue of tourists waiting outside for a table inside. They are all staring at their phones probably wondering why they are spending their precious time in Amsterdam at this place. The food here is average, at best. Ambience is unique with all the mother photos on the walls but please spend your time visiting other real authentic Dutch restaurants. It would be different if Moeders made good food, but it's one of the few places we actually put down our forks and didn't finish eating.
Very popular restaurant for traditional Dutch food. They are very busy and booked for weeks but you might be able to get a table depending on the time you go. Super friendly and efficient staff. They restaurant is full of photos all over the walls of peoples mothers from many decades. Very unique decor. I tried the traditional Stam pot. They have other things too including daily specials.

There are thousands of pictures of mothers hanging on the wall which was very cool to see. The service was very quick. We tried a lot of things on the menu and everything was really delicious. I highly recommend for people visiting as they serve many traditional dutch foods!
My friends and I came here to try authentic Dutch food. We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by how savory and yummy it was. We got the meal that allowed you to try many different dishes, which was perfect since we'd never had Dutch food and were not sure where to start. We also got Mom's ribs and the croquettes. You could taste the Indonesian influence, including the beef stew which strongly resembled Rendang, an Indonesian staple--minus the coconut milk and other spices. In addition, the croquettes seemed to have a curry-flavored filling. The two stews we had were pretty similar, but both were very tender. It also came with a variety of different potatoes--all similar to each other. The cabbage was made with apple and very yummy. You could also tell the applesauce was freshly made and it went really well with the rest of the savory elements. The ribs were super tender and very flavorful. Overall, it was a satisfying and hearty meal. You can't go wrong with meat and potatoes

A great restaurant away from the tourists in the center. Great local Dutch food. The staff was great and explained all of the choices to us. Bring a framed photo of a mother and they will place it within the restaurant. I had the Stampot and it was delicious. My wife shared the Hollandse Rijsttafel and the selection of items was great. Highly recommend Moeders for a great meal and atmosphere. read more
Quirky and homey and offering traditional Dutch food. Food your mother would serve this restaurant is dedicated to mom's from around the world and it was fun looking at as many photos of mothers. My friend and I waited 20 minutes outside but they came with a drink menu. We decided to wait it out for dinner. They also turned on the heater under the patio. We ordered the DUTCH RICEDISH which slow served a muncher classics. It looked plain but surprisingly had good flavour. Service was good. I enjoyed my menu and hope to return when to get to Amsterdam. read more
Fun food and atmosphere. I ordered the hotchpotch, this was my first meal in Amsterdam. Was very filling, well prepared. Service disappeared a few times, which was funny because it's not a large place. I do recommend, for the food and the atmosphere. read more

Came here for our first meal in Amsterdam since we wanted to try some traditional Dutch food! We got the rice dish for 2 and the serving size was massive between us. Decor of the restaurant is also super cute decorated with peoples mothers! Service was also great and super friendly read more

Reservations strongly recommended. They book up early however some lucky walk-ins are lucky if there is a cancellation. Follow the link on the Yelp profile page. Service and hospitality = A Food = B+ Location = A (one block from tram stop) Ambience = A Dutch food. read more

Are you looking for traditional Dutch food?! Then you're in luck! This place is called "Mothers" and the whole place has pictures on the walls of mothers. There is literally no space uncovered. The people working are very chill so if you're looking for a quick service place this may not be for you but it's still a really good experience. The prices are definitely not bad especially for what you get! We tried the meal for 2 which was perfect since we wanted a bite of it all. The beef stew dishes were my favorite. It also came with a couple different potatoes, cabbage, and apple sauce. For dessert, we got the apple pie and I could've ordered a second one... it was THAT good. read more

I was lucky enough to have come early in the night and they fit me in before their next reservation (which was super nice as other places in Amsterdam wouldn't sit a party of one). My waitress was kind and the owner was extremely sweet. It's super cramped and also had a lot of tourists. The food was pretty good. I had the beef carpaccio (not pictured) but should have gotten the vegetable soup. The stamp it was extremely hot (temperature wise) and on the saltier side. I recommend stopping by to try authentic Dutch food and try to make a reservation ahead! Tons of people got turned away but some were told to come back later/try their luck again in 20 ish minutes. read more

The staff makes you feel like family, and it's a great place to experience the taste of Dutch comfort food in a friendly setting What we had: Stamppot // Hotchpotch (€17): mashed potatoes with vegetables served with a sausage of butcher Louman, a meatball & bacon. Fish from the Market (€21.5): Salmon with Hollandaise Sauce. Hollandse Rijsttafel // Dutch Ricedish (€21): a combo of all the Dutch specialties, including granny's stewed beef, Dolly's hachée (beef stew with onions), hotchpotch, boiled potatoes, red cabbage, apple sauce, bacon, sausage & gravy. Appeltaart Van Moeke // Mommy's Apple Pie (€7.5): Homemade & with vanilla ice-cream. It was our first time having Dutch food and WE LOVED EVERYTHING! They all tasted so good. The Rijsttafel, especially, gave us a unique experience because we got to do a lot of mix and match with those little dishes. The sweet and fruity taste of the apple sauce impressed me the most. It went well with everything. I just couldn't have enough of it. Bonus: You can give them a photo of your mother and they will hang it on the wall! They also collect all kinds of plates from customers who give them as gifts so feel free to contribute. read more

Moeders "mothers" is an eclectic family ran authentic Dutch restaurants that gives honor to mothers. They are an amazing tribute and memorial to mothers, thousands of pictures honoring Moms it was beautiful. All the dishes are mismatched and it's beautiful we were told when they opened people brought in items from their collection. The food is delicious and hand made, so prepare for a long wait. This is very common when traveling to Europe, so enjoy not having to rush around shouting out orders or waiting for the bill as we often do in the states. Thank you for a delightful dinner. read more
Such a great family spot in Amsterdam for some very traditional Dutch food! This place is definitely a must if you're visiting Amsterdam. Moeders = Mothers. Walking in, you'll notice that there's a lot of picture of families and specially a mother in it! That was awesome to see them celebrate mothers in that way and their recipes. You'd usually want some reservations if you're planning to dine during rush hour, otherwise, they should be able to accommodate if you're with a small party. Everyone working there is super sweet, just like you're at home. To start my meal, I ordered the pea soup. I've had pea soup before and it's usually a hit or miss, but this place is great! There's smoked sausages in the soup and that makes all the difference. We followed with one of their sampler dishes so we can try out different traditional dishes which included stewed beef, sausage, potatoes, mashed carrots, and apple sauce. We shared this among two guys and it was plenty for a third person. We didn't have room for dessert, but we heard their pies were amazing! Giving this place 5 stars because I couldn't find anything wrong. read more

This place was recommended by the canal cruise guide. He said to make sure to get reservations or you won't be able to get in. And he was right! We were lucky because we met a couple who had placed 2 reservations for table of 2 and table of 4 but their friends couldn't make it so gave us their 2 months ahead reservation! So my husband had to be called George for that night lol. I am not familiar with Dutch food and really wanted to try authentic Dutch food. And this one was bang on. We did the sampler and did not know what to expect. There were 5 ( very hungry) of us, so asked for 5 of the sampler meal but the lady said order 4 of those and should be good to feed 5 hungry humans lol. We got our order fast, the meal was yummy and would definitely recommend it to someone who haven't had authentic Dutch food like myself. It's a small mom and pop diner and the space is limited. This place is one of the most beloved place by the locals. They specialize in traditional Dutch cuisine. Which is a mixture of Thai, Indonesia food and potatoes. To be honest, service is not the Dutch's strong suite. Then can do better. They are always polite and with a friendly face. That would suffice anywhere, but coming from a place in where the service is all, I founded them wanting a little bit in this department. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was very casual and cozy. The place is very warm and has certain friendliness that screams to you, like a restaurant that has been around since your childhood. But if you arrive without a reservation they will send you away. The place is very small so they cannot accommodate large parties with ease (maximum 9). The food is very tasty and unpretentious. Like if you were eating at a friends house. They do not offer table services like bread or sauces, but they do give you wet towels to clean your hands. The Rijsttafel is their own interpretation of the famous dish. Very well executed and tasty. However to much potatoes for my taste. The deserts were just ok, certainly there are better places for Dutch apple pie. In summary, this place is a must whenever you visit Amsterdam. Just be sure to make a reservation beforehand. read more

Delicious "home cooked meal". I definitely suggest the hoLLanDse rijsttafeL / DutCh riCeDish. It comes with 3 meats (2 beef and a sausage), 3 potato dishes, red cabbage, and applesauce. From food to service everything feels like home and makes you feel warm inside. We did see quite a few people turned away because they didn't have a reservation. We lucked out and just walked in. read more

My favorite place we ate in Amsterdam! This place has a very comfortable and locally inspired environment and the food tasted amazing and home cooked. I also had the beer Brewed By Women and it was fabulous! The service was friendly and fast and the prices were reasonable as well. I would definitely reccomend to anyone visiting the area! read more
