    Apple pie

Authentic Amsterdam cuisine at its finest! My friend and I made a reservation in advance for this place after seeing all of the good reviews. The inside gives a homelike feel where you know you will be well taken care of! The service was friendly and timely. I had the mussels and they were exquisite! Perfectly cooked and accompanied by a wonderful balance of sauce and mushrooms. It came with fries and salad which were good but not spectacular. For dessert, we shared the apple pie that came a la mode with this deliciously sweet cinnamon ice cream! The pie itself had a great flavor but was a little on the dry side. But overall we loved our experience at t' Zwaantje and highly recommend making a reservation to take enjoy a wonderfully authentic amsterdam meal!

I really wanted to try traditional Dutch food and was able to find this location on Yelp. We got there right at open - def make a reservation! They got busy as we were there. The waiter was super nice and explained the dishes to us when he set it down which I appreciated! We started with bread and butter. The butter was deliciously seasoned. The bread was very good also. Freshly baked. I ordered the stewing steak - it came with the beef in a dish and then a plate of mashed potato's, green beans, carrots, Brussels, and a side of apple sauce. It was explained to take the beef and like it over the veggies to eat. It was a huge portion. I enjoyed it! The trout was a full fish - my fiancé wasn't a huge fan just due to it being not seasoned in any way.

    Grandma's Stew

Reservation is definitely needed here. And when you do get the reservation email, be sure to scroll down and hit the "confirm" button. Good thing I used Google translate because the email was in Dutch. Our friend recommended Zwaantje for traditional home style Dutch entrees. We shared the Grandma's stew which comes with a plate of vegetables along with mashed potatoes and apple puree. We also got the pork satay that comes with a side salad and fries. Grandma's stew was so tender and delicious. Our waiter informed us that back in the days every Dutch grandma would know how to make this dish, and this is still their family's recipe. The pork satay came with a generous amount of peanut sauce and it was soooo delicious! The pork was juicy and tender. We simply couldn't eat much of the sides because the main entree's portion was quite big. The mayo/aioli that comes with the fries was super addicting. We were wondering if it's really mayo cuz I never like mayo, and the waiter looked at us "it's JUST mayo" lol He was friendly and the price here is very reasonable, considering a tourist trap stroopwafel bakery down the street is already $10 Euro.

Reservations are must for this bar restaurant. We started with the mushrooms on toast which was a little underwhelming. For the main course, we split the Grandma's stew and the boiled mussels. The stew was fantastic. It's a large dish and could honestly be for 2 people. It's the perfect meal with protein, mashed potatoes, vegetables and a sweet and tart apple puree. The mussels were tasty. The portions in this restaurant are gigantic so make sure you come hungry. The staff were very friendly and helpful about the food they recommended. The price was fair considering the large portions of food.

We popped in around 5 pm without a reservation to see about getting a table- we were told by one of the guys serving (no formal host) that they were fully committed and there was other food around the area. It felt a little off-putting - like he didn't want us there because we were tourists. So we went online after leaving to discover that they had a few open reservations for later that evening. *We were determined to have a true dutch meal upon our visit and this is definitely one of the few places in the city that offers that. We enjoyed the escargot, cordon bleu and the Grandma's beef stew. All were really tasty and a hearty portion size. The apple pie was pitched as their best desert, but without the ice cream and creme, it would have been very dry. The server who discouraged us from coming back warmed up by the end of the night - which we think is worth mentioning. We got the sense they appreciate a dutch/local clientele. The rest of the staff was really sweet and we would go back if we were in the mood for a traditional, home-made dutch meal.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!
