Chicken kebab plate with hummu - really nice chicken!

This place was great. Good food, friendly service. I had the chicken kebab plate. The chicken was the star of the show - very tasty and tender grilled chicken with a charred lemon spice flavor. The olive oil on the hummus was also very good. The pita bread would have been better if it was warm. The side salad was unremarkable. Overall a great lunch spot.

Visited this restaurant in a Saturday afternoon at about 1:30pm, for a couple of takeout dishes. Guess business was slow, there was one table dining in. I ordered the beef shawarma wrap and krafta kabob with hummus and eggplant dip as sides. The flavors were good and accompanying pickles really added interesting taste and texture to the dishes. It was decent, just a little pricey on the kabob in my opinion.

Pretty good only came because my flight was late and it took 2 hours to get a ride. Open at 9pm so we got some appetizers. Fresh baba ghanouj drizzled with olive oil and crispy falafel. I don't do hookah so the place filled up with smoke without me. Decent service just order at the stand and they bring the food. Normal prices. No real complaints. read more

Was in Houston on business and unfortunately the hotel was not super close to any restaurants worth while and I had. I car so decided to take a Chance an order to go. Ordered with the app on yelp which was super easy and gave me status on when order was received and when it was on its way to be delivered. Food was carefully contained and was still hot upon arrival. The chicken was very tender and has the right amount of spice on a layer of tasty rice. The hummus as a side was super tasty ( probably some of the best Ive had. The bread was large and I ordered 2 as I thought hey would be smaller however it was coated in sesame seeds and had a strange flavor. Not bad but certainly could not compare to some other Lebanese bread I've had from another Mediterranean restaurants. The baklava I ordered was flaky and soft not too crunchy and had a very good flavor. Overall very pleased with his find - if your in the mood for Mediterranean then this will not disappoint. read more

Good Ambiance very friendly people. food taste okay, hummus taste good , baba ghanush okay, garlic sauce v good, Mo hot fresh pita with food, They make it every day but they warm it up for you if you miss the boat when they're making it. we went for dinner late at night and we had to eat Pitas made earlier in the day, not fun. Chicken skewers not holding optimum food temp and overly burnt. A lot of room for improvement , wishing our guys the best. read more

Really great, authentic Middle Eastern (Lebanese) cuisine. The homemade flat bread is made fresh on a brick oven and is nice and soft with a bit of chew. The hummus is delicious, and you can tell it is made fresh. The grape leaves were solid (wish there was a bit more filling in them) but very tasty. We tried the chicken, beef and Kafta kabaobs. All were excellent. The chicken (breast meet) and beef (tenderloin) were perfectly cooked with a bit of char. The Kafta was my favorite. It was juicy and flavorful. The accompanying rice and house Lebanese salad was also delicious. Good stuff! read more

My husband and I stopped in last night around 10pm as we've driven by several times and it was always packed and we love Mediterranean cuisine. It wasn't packed, our waitress Christina greeted us and she was so friendly! We sat closer to the hookah bar and we asked if she had any suggestions on flavors for hookah, she recommended orange mint so went with that. We shared an entree the sampler kabob (chicken and beef) with hummus and baba ghanouj. They brought the hookah to our table, very elegant looking! We both tried the orange mint........ WOW!!! It was super refreshing and we both enjoyed it! Great suggestion for our first time in the place. Our entree arrived, my husband ate the chicken and I ate the beef..., another WOW moment because they were seasoned oh so well!! Everything was absolutely delicious and the whole ambience was very relaxing. We are definitely coming back and bringing the kids! So glad this place is here as it's 5 minutes from home and no longer having to drive across town. Thank you Christina for being so nice and a great waitress! read more

I've had better Med. food but we went on a Saturday night and they had a live band. If you like experiencing different cultures & being open about it, you will enjoy the music and seeing the crowd having fun (mostly Middle Eastern). Waiters are friendly and the place is clean. Where do I start with this Restaurant? Hands down my go to Hookah Cafe. There are tons here in Houston and none come close to this place. They treat me like I am at home every time. I HAVE to order the Chicken Kabob plate every single time I come. Made fresh every day. Youssef makes the hookahs and they are BOMB. We ask for Hesham as our waiter and he always takes care of us. Even Joe the charcoal guy is HILARIOUS. Being a regular here is awesome and being that its right by my house....I literally get excited to come here. I've had the pleasure of dining at The Rest House several times and it's always delicious! Topped off with friendly and helpful staff. And, oftentimes the owner, Ismail, comes by to welcome you. I recently ordered a takeout dinner for five. The food was ready on time and Ismail went above and beyond adding a few items to make the meal even better. Everyone at our small, Covid-conscious party raved about the food and I got to take all of the glory for "discovering" The Rest House. (Ok---I shared some of the glory w Ismail!) Well i'll start by saying the food is good, could be better but not bad. I went to another Mediterranean buffet and ya'll had similar options. First i'll start by saying the workers are a mess, I did not know who to ask for help when I first walked in for a take away, and I felt really awkward and terrified, and I don't think anyone would eat food if there is too much hookah! A quick tip though would be to manage your workers better and be more professional and maybe more people would come! Overall... Meh, I might come back. read more

Listen people!!! Don't dismiss this review as the rantings of a crazy guy...I flew into Houston hungry and in the worst mode. I walked into Rest House Cafe to get a bite to eat...they kitchen was closed but totally understandable since their posted hours said close at 11:30pm...it was 12:30...I was told the kitchen was closed but I was telling the wait person I was so hungry...she was so compassionate and empathize with my hunger, so she gave me (free) hummus and pita!!! (Delicious btw!!). Made it a point to go for lunch the next day and had the chicken sandwich. AMAZING!!!! Then I went for dinner and got the kafta sandwich...even better than the chicken!!! I've been back every day for 10 days for lunch and dinner and they left me more and more enchanted!!! There is nothing I can say to dissuade anyone from having the most amazing food, the most AMAZING service and the most amazing I'll "NEVER" forget this place experience...go and be blown away as I am. He asked if it would be okay for him to redo it which I of course obliged. I appreciated the fact that he didn't serve me a drink that wasn't properly made. The wait was worth it. The Martinez tasted like a sweeter Negroni and I really enjoyed it! I'm glad I was able to visit one of the oldest bars in Houston. As for seating and parking, there is a bar area and limited seating toward the front of the restaurant, but it does extend to back of the house with additional seating. There is also patio seating as well. Because this place seems popular, it is best to reserve ahead to ensure your seating. Parking is very limited! They do however, offer valet (but at $20+). There is off-street parking, but be careful since this is a residential area and nothing is secure. All in all, I really had a great time and left with my belly full! Definitely worth checking out! I was approached by the manager and I told her I needed a set up. She asked me what chasers I wanted and I said water and coke. I was charged separately for the water and coke that was supposed to be included in my set up.... so all together for a set up and a hookah, I paid over $60. I've never paid, IN HOUSTON, more than $10 for a set up and $35 for a hookah. Then they have small 4 oz paper cups to get the ice out with. After all this she attempted to charge me a bottle fee for each bottle I brought in. I sincerely think the young lady wasn't sure about what she was doing. Again she maintained her professionalism but she looked overwhelmed. Let's move on to those hookahs, the flavor lasted maybe 10-15 minutes and then the other lady who was helping refresh the coals was firmly pressing them down on the foil. I called her to the side and advised her that she was going to burn the shisha like that and sure enough my next puff was nothing but burnt shisha. They did replace it for free so I can't say much about that but overall....... I might have just found one of my new favorite restaurants in Houston. What a great experience!…read more Recently, a good friend dined here and immediately called me to tell me how great it was. She then text our friends group and said we all had to come together and we did just that. She made reservations in advance as this place is popular thanks to recent Michelin Bib Gourmand awards as well as many other accolades. Walk ins are welcome as well. Our reservation was later in the evening so after a night of bar hopping, we ride shared in which I think is one of the best options as parking is limited here or you have to find street parking in the neighborhood. This place is literally a house turned into a restaurant. Inside is just multiple rooms with a couple of tables. It makes for a unique, intimate dining experience, perfect for a date night. In our case, we were a group of nine so we got patio seating. The patio is spacious and well kept, and if the weather cooperates, a great place to hang. One thing that really stood out to me is the amazing ambience of this place. I was told that the bartenders pick the music for the night from the owners extensive vinyl collection. Once the album is in, they play it in it's entirety. The sound system was systeming and on top of the great company and food, we were totally vibing with the music. Customer service was amazing. Every staff member we came across was so friendly, especially our server. The menu here changes. There are some mainstays, but they like to change things up. Their website shows current menus daily. We were told that family style is the best way to experience this restaurant. I am one of those people that will always listen to the staff and go with their suggestions. Our group went through quite a bit of their menu from apps, entrees and desserts. I loved that our server and staff brought our food out one by one in what they thought was the best progression so we could take a culinary journey. We started off light with their popular Dilly Bread. Best bread I've had in awhile. Next was the Texas Tartare. It was my first ever tartare and it was delicious. We then moved on to Fingerlingin Good which was a crispy potato dish with chili crisp and mascarpone. It was potatoes elevated to the highest level and so so good. Next up was Beer Battered Sweet Tots. I didn't think sweet potatoes could be that good. Our first entree was a vegan dish called the Carroty Kid. I could seriously become a vegan if all dishes tasted like this. It was curried. A bowl of jasmine rice would've made it a complete meal. Next we tried another famous Nobie's dish called Nonno's Pasta. Handmade, perfectly cooked tagliatelle with a delicious bolognese. I wouldn't share this next time. Ok, I will, but it was that good. On to the heavier dishes. First up was the Jamon With Your Bad Self. This came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. It was favorite heavy entree. It was high quality, iberico pork steak with shaved brussels and all kinds of other tasty ingredients that when combined made such a tasty bite. We then went to the sea with the Drops of Grouperter. It was good, but not something I would order again. It was a little too smoky for my liking. Our biggest dish that came market priced was the Kick His Ass Seabass. This was a whole fish that was presented beautifully on a platter with all the accouterments to make your own elevated fish tacos. We left no morsel of fish behind. It was absolutely delicious. One of the things this place is really known for is their pies. This was the part I was most excited about. Just like their menu, their pies change up. We got all their offerings that night which they presented on one big platter of goodness. Their main stay and I believe always on the menu is the famous Olive Oil Cake. It's not a pie, but I can see why this is such a popular dessert. I can't even describe it, you just have to try it to understand. The pies we had were the Black Bottom Strawberry Pie, Banana Rum, and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would order all of them again. We all had a difference of opinion on which was the best, but my fave was the Banana Rum. Overall, I was highly impressed with this place and kind of mad at myself for waiting so long to make it here. It had made it's way to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in Houston. I will be back.

The chocolate peanut butter pie tasted like a salt rock and the lemon chiffon pie had great flavor but not lemony enough for me. All in all this place is a bit pricey but truly a gem! AMAZING, cozy restaurant that accommodates the entire family! The staff is friendly, observant, and very hospitable. My family, including children, went for a special night when a belly dancer kept us all entertained. It was a beautiful and artistic evening filled with smiles. Last but not least......the food!!!!!
