Been coming here on & off for many years. Over the years it has declined interior & exterior. It's BYOB & they use to not charge to get it. Having to pay $25 to drink your own alcohol is insane. Parking is limited as well.

The $4 hose I had to pay for unexpectedly.

If you're coming here for the food, don't. If you're coming here for the hookah, don't. Just don't come. Save your time, stomach, and money. This place ain't it. If you do come, expect reheated frozen food, a hookah that doesn't work, and a hose you have to pay $4 for (no, they don't tell you about it when you order). I took mine home The only good part was the sever. She was sweet!

I'm just so grateful this place had ordering until 2:30am via delivery apps (I forget which one exactly). While everything else was closed, this one came through, and it wasn't just late night trash food. As always with 3rd party apps, the food was overly expensive, but it was quite tasty. GLOWS: - chicken Kabob platter came with hummus and pita bread -The grape leaves were meatless (they had a deal of buy one get one free at the time) GROWS: -The pita bread was just okay. It could have had a little more flavor to it with herbs.

My buddy and fellow Yelper Victor H. introduced me to this spot recently and I really enjoyed it. It was our birthday week and we wanted a chill hangout before our birthday celebration the next day. Cafe Layal has been here for awhile, located in Midtown. Parking sucks in this area. If you are lucky, you might be able to snag a spot on the street or in one of the lots, otherwise you can use a nearby garage or a pay to park lot. Customer service is great here. We did hookah and they kept up with it frequently and there was always someone hovering around to make sure everyone was ok. I am in no means a hookah expert, but have dabbled in it from time to time, mostly at friend's houses. Here though, you just show up, pick your flavor and enjoy. They have quite a few flavors to choose from. We went with a watermelon mint that was very smooth and enjoyable. Each person gets their own mouth piece so no cooties are shared (unless you're into that). The staff is also very good about changing the coals often so you can hookah without it burning out. It is also BYOB here. Bring whatever you want as they don't serve alcohol here. They will set you up with whatever you need. As far as food goes, I went with the Beef Shawarma. This dish was delicious. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. The tahini and all the other accompaniments rounded it out nicely as well. I did find it hard to eat as they cut it into multiple sections then top it with a sauce. Two sections and sauce on the side would've made it alot easier to handle. The fries it came with were cooked to perfection and tasty as well. If you are looking for a chill spot to hang with friends, read a book or get some work done, this is a really cool spot. I will definitely come back!

Say hi to Sabrina. She makes the BEST MINT LEMONADE here!!!! If she's not making the lemonade beware! She's the BEST SERVER!!!

Great study spot. And the food is good too. Ask for Sabrina she's the best at making the mint lemonade (ASK FOR IT BLENDED WELL!!!!). Excellent vibe for a game night or hookah hang out. Bring your own games, cards and liquor. There is a small cork fee per person. The patio is large and has TVs and there are plenty of TVs inside.

I truly don't know what took me sooo long to write this review. I absolutely love this place from the servers to the food! The staff is always polite and willing to answer any questions you have. The hookah here is really good the pineapple heads are my favorite and they last longer. The environment is very chill. It's a place you can have fun but it's also super relaxing. They have a patio which allows you to bring your friendly pup along ! Now let's get to the food! I come here at least 1-2 times a month. It's an hour drive but it's worth it. The must haves are: Hummus supreme, Caesar salad with Gyro meat and the kabobs chicken or beef and last but not least the Spicy potatoes!

Whats a corking fee for a hookah?
    Vik P.

Not a bad place for hookah, haven't had the food in quite sometime so not going to give rating. Though what is this $5 corking fee for a hookah. They asked me if I wanted ice for hookah, never had it before and tried, but seen no difference so just another way to add $3.50 for nothing.

The place have a chill vibe and the food is good. Drinks were decent and staff was friendly. Parking is terrible though. I recommend this place eif your nearby and wand grab a drink/food with some friends!

It's a hole in the wall spot that's BYOB with hookah and middle eastern eats. Always enjoy coming here with friends and dates to smoke hookah, drink beer/wine, and occasionally munch on food. There's also TVs here where they'll put on a big game or event and they play a nice selection of music. Hookah flavors include exotic fruits (mango, watermelon, kiwi) which I recommend. As for food, they have great schwarma, fries, and veggie greek pizza. While they don't serve alcohol, you can bring your own six-pack or bottle to consume for yourself. The store is across the street for convenience. A very chill spot where you can relax and enjoy yourself.

Ask the Community - Cafe Layal Midtown

    Is the meat halal?

I m sure it is Halal . All Mediterranean restaurants in houston serve Halal meat.

Do they ask for ID in order to do hookah?

Not necessarily, but if they do, it certainly can't hurt to have it on the ready.

The vibe was chill and laid back. We are in our late 40s and it was younger crowd but we didn't feel completely out of place. I like the live music. If you're an old head, then the DJ music may not be your speed, but the live music was good. there was a young lady singing with a guitar accompanying her. i'ma pretty hard grader but I would go back.. the wings were $12 for the special six wings and fries . it was pretty reasonably priced in my opinion. They did get service right shout out to the server who served us their name was El. Because of the service and the lady who was singing (she started around 9) I give the place 7 out of 10. Decent pricing for drinks and Decent hookah for the city at $25. I didn't catch the bartender's name, but he greeted us immediately. There was only one other patron and the staff was decorating the bar with Christmas decor. The bartender informed us that the bar wasn't fully stocked but asked us what types of drinks we like. Based on my preference, he suggested a Martinez. I had never even heard of a Martinez but I was open to trying it. He made it, looked at it, and said it didn't come out right. He asked if it would be okay for him to redo it which I of course obliged. I appreciated the fact that he didn't serve me a drink that wasn't properly made. The wait was worth it. The Martinez tasted like a sweeter Negroni and I really enjoyed it! I'm glad I was able to visit one of the oldest bars in Houston. It was super low key and chill which was a perfect way to end our evening.

Atmosphere is casual, service…read moreis friendly, the vibe is definitely Viking (and from what I have heard, it's really popping during brunch!). We came on. Friday after work during happy hour and the prices could not be beat, especially with their lobster bites (was sitting at about $30, and we got them half off!) Drinks were fantastic! I selected the "Golden Cadillac" that comes with a miniature bottle of Grand Marnier inside of it. Very good. My company decided on an array of appetizers for his "main course", while I went with their Fried Salmon (served with Mac and cheese, and collard greens). Omg! So tasty! The pepper was prevalent throughout, but it did not over power the flavor! I make collard greens at home (and learned from one of the best), and even I found theirs to be pretty good! My company selected fried ribs, along with the lobster bites, and crawfish queso dip, and their wings! I tasted what he got, and we both agreed that the wings were "off the chart" delicious with a beautiful straight off the grill smoky flavor! So good that he got another order to go! Lol. What made our experience there amazing was our server Ray (Rajean = think "the 90's TV Show "Living Single"..."smooches"!)...she was the best!! From her hello, to walking us through the menu (as first-timers), her recommendations, her energy, her smile, and her being very relatable. Loved her! My only gripe was the bathrooms, the ladies room needed attention (and could use a spruce all around). It doesn't help that it is a bit small, but yeah, they need to focus some efforts on ensuring it's upkeep. As for seating and parking, there is a bar area and limited seating toward the front of the restaurant, but it does extend to back of the house with additional seating. There is also patio seating as well. Because this place seems popular, it is best to reserve ahead to ensure your seating. Parking is very limited! They do however, offer valet (but at $20+). There is off-street parking, but be careful since this is a residential area and nothing is secure. All in all, I really had a great time and left with my belly full! Definitely worth checking out! What was lost is now found! Enjoy!

I'm just not ok with a dj who is being paid by the owner, telling folks or allowing the MC to tell folks in order to request a song, you gotta pay. If I chose to tip him, so be it, but being forced ain't cool. My biggest complaint was the price of everything. Now I'm a country chick and realize that prices are more expensive in the city. I was approached by the manager and I told her I needed a set up. She asked me what chasers I wanted and I said water and coke. I was charged separately for the water and coke that was supposed to be included in my set up.... so all together for a set up and a hookah, I paid over $60. I've never paid, IN HOUSTON, more than $10 for a set up and $35 for a hookah. Then they have small 4 oz paper cups to get the ice out with. After all this she attempted to charge me a bottle fee for each bottle I brought in. I sincerely think the young lady wasn't sure about what she was doing. Again she maintained her professionalism but she looked overwhelmed. Let's move on to those hookahs, the flavor lasted maybe 10-15 minutes and then the other lady who was helping refresh the coals was firmly pressing them down on the foil. I called her to the side and advised her that she was going to burn the shisha like that and sure enough my next puff was nothing but burnt shisha. They did replace it for free so I can't say much about that but overall....... The employees need training, I think they were overwhelmed and I think y'all were understaffed to serve the amount of people that accompanied this party...
