We came in for a late lunch, and one other person was placing a lengthy catering order. Otherwise the restaurant was empty. We weren't acknowledged or assisted for close to 15 minutes, and there was no apology. Food took way longer than expected-especially because we asked for soup, salad, and a sandwich-all easy endeavors. My food arrived at the table first, and I asked for my husband's soup, thinking it just involved ladling it into a bowl. But it took several minutes for that and his sandwich. I have been ill and couldn't eat much of my lunch, and the server told me that they charge more for to-go orders (leftovers), even though both my husband were sitting at the table eating the whole time. When I protested, she laughed. The entire experience was frustrating and uncomfortable. Although the food was tasty and fresh, I left with a sour taste in my mouth due to the horrible customer service. BTW, the manager/owner was present the whole time and did not step in to assist with the catering order or ours. In these hard times for the food industry, you'd think excellent customer service would be a priority. Guess they haven't gotten the memo. read more

Not at all a fan. From the service to the food itself, my family and I left disappointed and still hungry. First - the service was subpar. The waitress we had seemed bothered by the time and had already closed most of the dining area down, even though they weren't closing for two hours, and the dining area smelled of cleaning chemicals. The dining room was not well-lit either, rendering it difficult to tell if the food was done or not. The food... Not much flavor, and not adequately advertised. And... no matter what it was, there were no room for substitutions allowed. Regardless of allergies. The pita tasted store-bought. I usually order from Olivit via DoorDash but I went in person this time and was greeted by a super nice guy at the front desk. He was very friendly, answered all my questions about their menu, and even gave me an enthusiastic recommendation. I really appreciate the customer service here. I usually get the wraps from here so I followed tradition and got a gyro and also the kobbeh balls, both of which were great. I've never had kobbeh before but the crunchiness of the outside and the soft, ground beef inside made me fall in love. I'm not always reluctant to try places that I didn't care for in the past, but I hadn't been lucky a couple of times here but I was craving shawarma. It has been a while so I thought I would try this place again. It's sad at lunch time I'm the only one here. The service was ok at first and the food ok, though incredibly salty. The shawarma.was good, though a little off putting that all due garlic sauce was in one dollar at the end of the sandwich, but the taste and texture of the sandwich was good. I was surprised there wasn't much chicken inside however. The falafel appetizer came out after the entree. For me not an issue since for me I intended it as a side, I only mention it if you wanted to have appetizers first. You might clarify with them when ordering. It had a great taste, though seemed a bit burnt. It was really quiet except now and again a worker in the back would whistle loudly and no tune - just weird whistles now and again. Server never came back to refill iced tea or to even ask if everything was ok. I'll come back and try something else for appetizer and entree, and I won't let it be so long before I do compared to the last wait. No criticisms, really, but definitely not a meal I'd rave to anyone about. It was just ok for a quick but relaxing lunch. read more

I hadn't been to Olivit in a few years, and decided to go back, as I happened to be in the area. It is a hidden mediterranean jewel as the quality of food and service has been consistent throughout the years. I got here around 5pm and restaurant was pretty much empty, so it was quiet and peaceful. After being seated, I ordered a fresh lemonade and spicy hummus for appetizer, which came with pita bread. Lemonade was amazing, just like my grandma used to make it, back home. Hummus had a nice spicy twist to it and tasted wonderful with the fresh popping bread that had just come out of the oven. For my dinner entree, I went with the "Olivit platter", which consisted of beef kabob, beef skewer, grilled chicken pieces with rice, more hummus, baba ghanouj and tabouli, It is enough for 2 people but I devoured the whole thing. It truly was amazing. Beef was juicy with plenty of flavor. The chicken was somewhat dry, but still had flavor. Rice were not clumpy and had plenty of seasoning. They have quite a bit of items on their menu. Its pretty extensive but the Olivit platter is pretty much my go to dish every time, because I can sample a lot of the items in one dish. I am very selective when it comes to food, specially Mediterranean. I have to say that I was really impressed by their wonderful food and the amazing authenticity of their flavors. I am from Los Angeles, and I will say that before I visited the OLIVIT, I was very frustrated because I wasn't able to find a good Mediterranean Restaurant here in Houston. Well... I have found it! Disclaimer: The person that typed this review has no knowledge about Mediterranean foods nor could he pronounce them even when reading off of the menu but will type out the experience that he had on the First day of the year 2016. I came here because of the choice of a friend that said she had a coupon for half off of a $30+ meal so I was wisked in because of the enthusiasm that she wanted me to try. This little restaurant is located on the East side of Louetta and the North side of Cypresswood tucked a little bar on the end cap of a strip center. If you see a Starbucks, you are there, right next to it, sort of. When you walk in you will be transformed into the likes of a snug dining room with medium lighting (dinner time) and not so overwhelming "Habib radio" music. As you are sat at your table you will see that there are "pillows" spread out along the hardwood bench type seating, this is not for pillow fighting so do not get your inner child coming out here. The menu is self-explanatory along with the prices on the right printed on a trifold menu, there is something for everybody. I'm glad the person knew what to order because if you are not familiar with this type of food like I am not, then you might as well close your eyes and dab a fork on the menu to see where it lands. We got the $37.99 combination/sampler which was an abundance of food in what I would say for about 4 people. I tried to tackle it but almost had to be rolled like a mega pregnant hippopotamus, I was defeated here! The presentation, the smell as well as the taste will have you glad that you ventured out of the comfort food box and tried these. I can only show you the pictures of what I ate and hopefully if you haven't already eaten here before that you might bookmark it and try this sampler, just make sure you haven't eaten in a few days or you brought your extended family. The service was stellar here but factor in that this was at night time and there was only one other table in here when we entered. Alexis who should have a shrine to her name for the above and beyond bubbly service that can hardly be matched except by maybe somebody that has ever worked at a 5-star hotel. You people that travel knows exactly what I'm talking about. It is sad to hear that January 10 will be her last day here from what we understood. The coupon that was supposed to have taken half off of the price was not read right which stated that cannot be used Friday, Saturday or Sunday, expensive lesson learned. The manager wouldn't even budge on it but that is not his fault. The three hours that we spend there was a relaxing one in "wow" with the food and good conversation about the old/new year to come and may I remind you that the ambiance of the restaurant will almost make you forget where you are. Had a salon appointment in the area and had a brief amount of time, but wanted something different so I chose this spot. I love Persian, Greek, Middle Eastern, etc and was excited to stop in! After walking in, it's a little confusing if it's a sit down full experience restaurant or a fast food place by the design.
