Shrimp and vegetable Tempura Lamen
Karen T.

First time at this location. It's interesting but would have thought the broth for my tempura lamen to be creamier and tastier. The tempura was perfectly fried but the broth left something to be desired esp when compared to another ramen shop a few blocks away. The noodles were cooked well. My friend got the fried noodles and it looked great.

I've been walking (or running) past Reren for a while. I've had their soup dumplings through Uber Eats, but hadn't tried their entrees/Lamen yet. I ordered the Kung Fu Noodles and really enjoyed them! I appreciate a noodle soup thats also packed with veggies (hello, Bok Choy lover here), and the the kimchi gave the soup an added layer of glamor and crunch! It's advertised as spicy, and I was asked if I was ok with spicy after I ordeeed (which I appreciated), but I honestly didn't find the soup very spicy at all! It was pretty flavorful though. I'd get it again. I'm also looking forward to trying other items like their Dan Dan Noodles.

We dropped by after my wife was in the mood for ramen. I am glad we did. We arrived at 6:00 pm on a Tuesday before it got crowded. Most of the tables were taken but we were seated right away. We ordered the Edamame and House Smashed Cucumber. The Cucumber had the right amount of tanginess. The Cheng Du Spicy Wonton stood out. The spicy sauce that they came in was an excellent accompaniment. We finished off with the Reren Signature Ramen. It really hit the spot. The ambience is very casual. We were tourists but it seemed a lot of locals were eating there too. We would definitely come again.

Imagine thinking you're trying a new restaurant, then realized you've been there before. I was excited when I arrived. The restaurant was lively and busy! Thankfully, I didn't wait long for a table. I ordered the vegetable ramen, which was amazing, and a bottle of unfiltered sake. The flavors came together beautifully. I highly recommend for a quick, tasty meal. I shall return!

So excited when we found this spot after a work conference. We loved the fried rice, it came with so much shrimp and scallop! This spot had the largest portion size compared to so many of the other meals we had. The karaage came with literally double of what we were expecting. The Dan Dan noodles were so flavorful. The eggplant was such a plus! Definitely bookmark this spot!

I come here frequently for their chili fish. The wait staff are always kind and patient, even when interesting characters wander in. Single stall toilet in the back and it's a long skinny restaurant with probably four or five four seater tables and one high one, as well as a small bar area.

My friends and I had a reading party event at the National Portrait Gallery. It was SOOO cold, so we decided to stop here for some ramen. I have been to this place quite a few times in the past few years, and their Georgetown and the food are delicious. Today I was craving the classic General Tso chicken and also got a Mai Tai to complement the yapping and gossiping with my friends. Both my friends got the signature lamen. For an appetizer, we got veggie house-made dumplings. The food was delicious, per usual, and the drinks were as well. The service was speedy and attentive. Even though it is a small restuarant there is a fast turnaround for seating and eating. I like this spot and can't help but stop here every time I am near Chinatown.

We dined in for lunch and were seated right away. We enjoyed the tempura for starter and the vegetable tempura was perfectly crisp with a soft center. The dumplings were okay but nothing stood out about them. The ramen broth was flavorful and the fillings were plentiful. Overall we would eat here again.

I came back for seconds. I made it out ti D.C. again and stopped into Reren Lamen & Bar. I ordered the General Tso's Bourbon Chicken. It just as good as last time. I also ordered the Spicy Dumplings. The dumplings were hot, spicy and delicious. Service was great and nice clean interior. If you are ever in D.C. check out Reren Lamen & Bar!

I came for a quick lunch and for once I disnt want soup. I ordered the crazy fish and a cucumber salad and it was so good. The fish was fried to perfection and the onions and peppers were delicious in their own or as a garnish for the fish. The cucumber salad was spicy and tangy. The service was quick and attentive.

This is an extremely standard, affordable, chinese restaurant with decent food. The service is fast, the space is clean, if this were in a suburb it would likely be viewed as excellent food, but because there's options in DC it's just good. You can walk in, there are enough tables, they have some cocktails and your typical beers like tsingtao. The menu has all the expected chinese dishes from twice fried pork to soup dumplings. Not one dish is stellar, but I think the dan dan noodles are a good choice. They will likely not be the best dan dan noodles you can get, but they are flavorful and do the trick. Don't come here to impress a girl or your parents, but if you just want a quick bite of not completely americanized chinese food, this is not a bad place to do it.

Lots of seating and big portions! Dan dan noodles had a boatload of peanuts and meat, the ratio i like :). A little kick, and super flavorful. Needed a bit more greens, like scallions cilantro or cucumbers to offset the heavy flavor, but thats just my preference. The crispy fish was also fantastic as well, peppery and crispy, and my friends enjoyed their ramens. Definitely a different broth than the Japanese ones.

Kailee B.

The food was delicious!. First time trying it, I love it and I would go back. Dishes was excellent and authentic of course. The service was good, we waited for a few mins for a table and the ambiance was good.

Reren Lamen & Bar Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Reren Lamen & Bar

Do you serve liquor?

Yes, they have a small bar area

Mask required to eat in?

No. As of last weekend they weren't requiring them

How do you make reservations?

You can call ahead or they do walk ins too.

Good for vegetarians?

The vegan and vegetarian options are quite limited and bland.

Does Reren use MSG? (thanks, Alan, for condescendingly not answering my question!)

That Alan dude must be a lobbyist for the MSG industry. It's inflammatory and not good to consume......in let's say, Chinese food. Won't kill you right away or anything but it's inflammatory. Inflammation in the body- not good

What time does kitchen close on Friday?

2 am

Is there free parking located around this area?

Well, its in a very busy area of DC's China Town. I didn't notice any free street parking (everything looked metered). I personally was parked in a nearby paid parking lot for the night I was in the area (for the Phil Collins concert). Dont bank on…

Is there a kid's menu? What is good for kids?

No kids menu. But definitely can bring children. They can have dumplings, even request no spicy wonton and noodles. Plenty of choice for kids.

How is The a taste of The food?

If you are looking for an authentic one, this place is not right for you. But this place is a good twist Asian fusion foods. I forgot what I ordered due to it has been a while. But the ramen was good, the fried chicken wings were yummy. Boba drinks…

Whether the customers should pay the tips? How much tips should be paid?

Yes. In United States of America, servers get paid by their tips. Tip is the server's salary. It is usually around 15-20%. Plus, salary is only $2.77 per hour. If you have any questions let us know. Thank you.

I believe they improved tremendously compared to the last time I was there. I ordered the Miso Ramen with Xtra Spice added. I forgot to ask for no corn, but I was hungry & was not thinking. Other than that, I'll say the broth is impressive for it to be chicken based broth (I prefer the traditional pork bone broth based ramen bowls. I hope they will add that to their menu one day soon). With it being in Union Market, it can be hard to find somewhere to sit and dine because Union Market is action-packed and casual, in addition to available spaces being unclean. So, I had to go to La Cosecha to sit down and eat my bowl. Something that did bother me was how messy it was to open the bowl. The Xtra spice was all over the rim of the container lid (as pictured). I probably should've asked for the extra spice on the side to prevent the mess. Also not a fan of spinach being added to ramen. So yes next time I go, I'll request no spinach or corn. Other than those mishaps & suggestions, I'd definitely recommend getting ramen from Uzu. I'll certainly go again. They hit the mark with making a flavorful broth & ingredients/ toppings pairings.

Mekka Noodle Bar is doing nothing to change that. That said, if you arrive with the modest ambition of merely satisfying a ramen craving, you will succeed. It is possible. It is merely not impressive. I make a habit of ordering tonkatsu ramen at new establishments--a reliable test of a restaurant's competence. You order the same dish everywhere and you learn, very quickly, who knows what they're doing. Mekka does not. Their tonkatsu ramen was a study in haphazard decision-making. The crispy fish cake, for instance, had been deep-fried with such confidence that no one bothered to consider what would happen when it met hot broth. It became soggy. There it was: soggy. The noodles possessed an unsettling firmness. The broth was adequate. The pork was appropriately tender. The soft-boiled egg, however, had not been soft-boiled so much as half-boiled, arriving at your bowl in a state of philosophical confusion. I gave it two stars, which feels generous until you learn that they donate a portion of proceeds to a Vietnamese charity. Why they've decided that American diners should subsidize overseas philanthropy instead of, say, improving their ramen, remains unexplained. Noble, perhaps. Logical, certainly not.

I'd heard about this style of dish before and had been wanting to try it, so of course I had to! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and seated promptly. I ordered the Chicken Curry Abura Soba, and this was definitely a hit in my book! It smelled and looked so good that I dug right in as soon as it hit the table (so please excuse the picture lol). The curry flavor was rich and full, the noodles were perfectly chewy, and the chicken was crispy on the outside while still moist on the inside. At first, I only mixed everything together slightly and thought it was delicious. But once I REALLY mixed everything and got all of that sauce from the bottom incorporated throughout the noodles? Completely different flavor experience. So good! I also ordered the pork dumplings as an appetizer. Caution to eating by itself, it'll make you pucker up real quick. Wakame soup was comforting. They also have smaller portion rice bowls, that were plenty filling. I would recommend getting a couple add ons though, as the karrage chicken was good, but rather plain. If you like spicy, you can get it here, but you can also keep it mild. Fun dinner. She repeated my order back to me and was especially careful to confirm the swap from pork to chicken, which I really appreciated! And can we give a round of applause for the takeout packaging?! The broth came in its own deep, round container, while the noodles and other ingredients were packaged separately. The broth container is wide enough that you can pour everything directly into it and eat from there if you don't have a bowl available. Since I was headed home, I transferred everything into one of my own bowls, but I love that you don't need to. Most importantly, the ramen hit the spot! Warm, flavorful, a little spicy, and exactly what I needed while feeling under the weather. I stopped in around 1 p.m., and there were a few people dining inside. While I waited for my order, I also saw probably five people come in to grab takeout orders, so clearly the neighborhood knows what's up. The restaurant itself is a nice size, with traditional tables as well as ramen bar seating. Price-wise, JINYA is pretty comparable to the other ramen spots around the area, so nothing particularly surprising there. Overall, great service, delicious ramen, thoughtful takeout packaging, and the convenience of having it right in the neighborhood. I'll definitely be back -- although hopefully next time it's because I'm craving ramen and not because my body is begging me to go home and get in the bed.

Absolutely one of my favorite spots for my ramen fix! I love that they offer great lunch/brunch…read moredeals--nothing beats a big bowl of ramen with two delicious sides. My absolute go-to order is the Tonkatsu Ramen. For the sides, you can't go wrong with the crispy chicken, brussels sprouts tempura, spicy creamy shrimp tempura, or the crispy rice with spicy tuna. There is plenty of seating spread out over both downstairs and upstairs levels. Located right in the Union Market area, so parking can definitely be tough. Your best bet is to use the local garages, park at Union Market, or if it's way too busy, head across Florida Avenue to park in the residential area. Highly recommended!
