I've never seen so many bad reviews for a trash company. But here I am, writing one too. I am a small business owner here and set up my first trash can delivery 2 weeks ago! Sadly, even though I started working, I have yet to see my cans. I was asked by the representative if I can put my trash in other people's cans until I get mine. Wait, what??? "Are you sure the cans have not arrived?" Yes, I'm sure!!! Is it really that hard to get cans? I currently live in Vallejo, and the trash service out here is GREAT! Even calling them isn't a 2 hour ordeal. I've never encountered this many issues for a trash service. This company needs some serious help getting it together. read more

Republic Services is by far the most frustrating company to deal with... they simply don't care about you. On top of that they have little if any competition to make them raise their bar. At least once a month they do not pick up a bin. We've had cases where they missed a pick-up for our entire street for 6 out of 10 weeks. Most recently I requested a special pick-up of appliances. I was told they would pick up my refrigerator, but they never did. Despite at least10 calls, escalations to management, promises by their escalation expert Warren in Customer Relations, they never picked it up. They never called me to report progress, they never called to say they wouldn't pick it up. In fact, they will never call you - it's always the customer who has to reach out. They also don't offer a direct line to their agents, so each time you call back you start the problem over with a new agent. Republic Services simply doesn't care. read more

Green waste can is usually picked up Friday morning. This is Monday afternoon and it's still out on the street. We were told to be picked up this morning then we were told it would be picked up between 3 and 6 PM today then we were told to be picked up Wednesday or tomorrow the entire street Was not picked up. Per guidelines, we are given 2 free yard trimming picks up per year. Has to be within a certain weight and with specific packaging. We scheduled for yard waste to be picked up and left it out as instructed. All bags were in compostable bags, under 50lbs, and all identical bags and trimmings. Truck came and picked up 6 out of 15 bags. Left 9 bags behind -- 3 were now ripped open and 6 were left intact. I called in to have this issue resolved, but to no avail. Requested to speak to the manager, and he dodged all my calls. I called in 3 times, left a message, asked to transferred and nothing. No resolution. If there was another utility company to service garbage pickup, I would drop Republic Services. read more

I have lived at my place in Orinda for a year and a half.. In that time I have had roughly 30-40 missed pickups... On top of that i have started calling the day after and been promised all kinds of things to have them never actually happen. I have literally called 3 times in 1 week and still not gotten a pick up. This is business negligence on a level I have never seen before. No problem solving - no adapting to make improvements just false promises and underperformance. read more

They never come on time, green/recycle is every OTHER week (for the price is absurd) and often go 4-5 days after pickup till my blue bin is finally taken. They often pass right by my house and take 2 out of 3, leaving one for weeks with trash in it. Call everyday to get them to come, say they will and never do. Have my new house looking like a trap house with trash bins outside waiting for some piece of S**t company to do its job i pay for..... Anyone working here should be ashamed of themselves, do better. Really horrible customer service...so bad I want to rate it with zero stars. Phone call 1: Representative gave me the wrong information on my order. Quoted me from something that was not what I needed. Call was 30 min Phone call 2: Representative told me the first representative under quoted me and the price would be double of the initial phone call. I proceeded with the order because construction was beginning on my project. She said everything was confirmed for my order and charged my credit card. Call was 1 hr Phone call 3: Delivery day...Representative told me that my paperwork never processed. Supervisor told me again that my paperwork never processed. THEN Why was I told it had processed and why was my card charged for the service? call was 1 hr If you are on a construction schedule, do not use this company. read more

Republic is basically the only option for trash pickup in Contra Costa which is why their customer service is non-existent. Be prepared for a 30 minute wait on hold if your call does not get disconnected first. See the reviews below - Republic is a monopoly and they act like one. read more

Why do I pay you a ridiculous amount of money AND have to call you to ensure your staff is picking up my bins every week?? Every time I call, I get a different answer depending on the representative. Since the pickup crew no longer has to get out of their truck to hook my trash can, sometimes when the forklifts connects, my trash falls out onto the floor and the lazy POS you hire leaves the trash on the street like they did today. I can't confirm, but I believe the truck number is 2493...which I also saw parked just outside of my service area. The next time this happens, I'm going to report it as a trash dumping incident...yeah I'm going to be that person. You have ONE JOB TO DO and these guys get paid really well to do it. I'm going to make it a priority to talk to our politicians, supervisor, and the city to either A) make sure you provide a consistent service and/or B) look into what it's going to take to have you replaced. It all starts with one person creating social media posts, msm involvement, BBB complaints, inquiries that will eventually involve other neighboring cities that Republic "services" to create a momentum. Look at your reviews, there is plenty of frustrated customers regarding the service you provide (if you can even call it that) to have you replaced permanently. In my zip code, and beyond, there's already been extensive conversations and complaints by neighbors and that list is enough to have your operation looked at more closely. This post should be enough for you to re-evaluate how you operate and why you have so many complaints. Do not try to pacify me by responding to this review asking me to email you with my service address, phone number, and a bunch of other details to then give me a standard bs response( like you did to the previous reviewer) of ," I apologize you went through this, this is not what we want for our customers, I will bring this to the attention of xyz or I understand your frustration and I'm sorry" because the STANDARD should be the same across the board regardless of my service address, that's why it's called a standard. This place is absolutely terrible! First off, how can a company have such terrible reviews and stay in business?? Because the have a monopoly. They miss and/or take have of my can all the time. I've called 4 times this week and get the same answer.. they're coming today or tomorrow. Bullshit, and don't bother replying to this with a "I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, please e-mail us" you have 1.5 stars for a reason and clearly nothing is changing. Services should not be part of their company name because they provide NO service. What they provide is inconsistent haphazard and careless trash pickups. They have missed pickups consistently. When they do pick up, the containers are often dumped over leaving loose garbage on the street. Absolutely no concern for their customers. After complaints are registered, there is no improvement. Funny thing though. They never miss sending a bill. They are very good about that. How this company continues to get contracts is a mystery. Do better Republic Services. Forgot to pick up recycle bin, not a big deal. I called to let them know, waited on hold the first time for 20 minutes, hung up and waited so hour or do, called again, waited on hold for 15 minutes, hung up. Called again, still on hold, my guess is they will not pick up before I hang up. Guess I will be waiting for my next pick up with an overflowing recycle bin. Website sucks, no way to email message, basically says call and wait for us to get around answering the phone. Horrible way to run a needed business this size! read more

Well we keep paying more, and the service is getting worse. Last winter their driver flipped over a truck in downtown Pleasant Hill. Going too fast perhaps? Meanwhile, they routinely "throw" my plastic bins back at my property upending them most weeks, and frequently tossing them into my landscaping. Now it's become ROUTINE to get a call, from them telling me that they are not picking up the green, the trash or the recycling. Now that its summer, and we are supposed to put food type garbage in the green cans, this is problematic. I have NOT had regular service for 4 weeks, and just got a call today. Again. Republic Services has been perfect for us. The trucks consistently pick up early every week. If they or I miss something, a simple phone call has them here the next day. Earlier this year I called to ask them if they could pick up a couch. She said yes. So I was surprised that the couch was still out at the curb the next day. I called to ask why. The nice lady reminded me that I'd said I was gonna wait to see if a friend wanted it and call them back. At that point I remembered that she was right. The super large couch was picked up the next week. I was going through a stressful time and I really appreciated her remembering the entire situation. And her kindness. We live in a HOA that doesn't allow the little green veggie kitchen container, but I would like to. Republic does accept used bicycles for kids and I'm donating three for Christmas. No other company seems to accept them. I had even called the Martinez Police Dept to ask if they were aware of a grandpa in town who fixed bikes up for kids. They didn't. read more

Terrible recycle driver! No ppl skills whatsoever. He cant ever answer a question, just drives away! Today he flipped us off. I have been getting my recycle bin emptied for 11 years all of the sudden we get a new driver and he wont take it. He gets his fat ass out of the truck and digs through the bin b4 he empties it. Today he opened the bin took a pic and flipped us off. The route supervisor is too busy to return a phone call or just doesnt want to get involved. Terrible company! I feel bad for the good drivers! Can I give Republic zero stars, please? We are going on 3 WEEKS without trash collection now, in an 8 unit apartment building with one dumpster. Trash is overflowing and piling up on the ground. Did I mention that this is right outside of my bedroom window? Thank you Republic for allowing your customers to live in filth and unsanitary conditions. Republic has missed pickups in our area several times, most recently last week. When I called, they explained they couldn't come until next week. They again missed the organic bin. WHen I called to get a credit on my billing, the said because they picked it up before the next pickup (2 picups in same week) no credit could be provided. I further was told: 1) It is up to the customer to call and complain about missed pickups because they have no monitoring as to when a complete comlex is missed for pickup. 2) If they pickup the missed week, before the next scheduled pickup date, then no credit is provided (even though this means there are 2 pickups in the same week) 3) they won't let you speak to a manger to help resolve the situation etc. Overall, this is one of the worst run companies I have ever seen, and has no recourse povided. PITIFUL COMPANY AND SERVICE! This needs some serious regulatory oversight! read more

Called to have my extra recycling container picked up. They asked that I leave the container curbside and scheduled a date. One month later, 6 other dates scheduled, 7 phone calls, 1 visit to the local office, 100 promises and still hasn't been picked up. Aesthetically I'm sure my neighbors appreciate the container being left out for an entire month. Still no answers....Just open ended promises and dates for pickup scheduled. read more

Our garbage is supposed to be picked up every Friday. It was not last week. We called and told them. We were told it would be picked up on Monday. The supervisor lied to us because it was not picked up until Tuesday. As you drove by the garbage cans you could smell rotting food. The next time this happens I am going to bag up my garbage and throw it on Republic Services Business office property so they can smell it. I will encourage my neighbors to do the same thing. They have a monopoly so there is no other garbage company in town. If you want us to pay you on time then do your job on time. No excuse for this, if you need help hire more people. I have contacted Republic Customer Support Services in Pacheco California three times for pick up service issue that I cannot get resolved. The customer service representative are polite, but they seem rather useless in resolving the problem. I have requested to speak with a Supervisor, but to no prevail. It seems to me that the customers are not that important to this company because we really don't have any recourse due to there is no competition for one's business in this field, we can't cancel our services with them unless you want to have your garbage pile up or do an illegal dumping! They are very nice and helpful when you get customer service in person, so 1 star for that. It's unfortunate that you have to actually go there in person for assistance, when it could be easily managed online or via phone. This inevitably means that you have to take time from your work day to take care of things, which is a luxury not available to many. My debit card expired, and I forgot to update that on the website. I tried logging in, and realized that maybe I was using an old password that no longer worked. I requested a password reset, but never got an email allowing me to do so. So now I'm stuck calling them. That's all well and good if someone actually answered. As it is, I've been on hold for nearly an hour. Yes, I am at work doing this, because my commute means that I cannot be there during their business hours, and yes, this is a total pain in the ass. The funny part is that they have no problem calling me to tell me my card is expired, but when it comes to calling them back with updated information, they just won't pick up. WTF, Republic Services. I moved into a new place and had to request trash services through Republic Services. I called on 1/6/22 and was told I would not receive my bins until 1/17/22. While that seemed like a long time to wait, I understood and didn't say anything about it. On 1/17/22, my bins never arrived. I called Republic Services to ask where my bins were. They said they would show up later that day. They never arrived. I called again on 1/18/22, 1/19/22, and again on 1/20/22. I was never rude, and kindly asked where my bins were. I was transferred to a dispatcher who kindly apologized and said they would definitely arrive the following Monday, to which they did. The bins were finally delivered on 1/24/22, 7 days after promised delivery and 18 days after my initial request. (As you can imagine, I had lots of trash piled up in my garage ) On 1/31/22, they dropped off an extra recycling bin to my residence. I called on 2/3/22 to request they pick up the bin. The line was busy and they had to call me back. When they finally called back, I was on the road and had to connect my bluetooth to answer my phone. The call taker, Janine (or similar), was very rude. said, "Sorry I couldn't hear you when I first picked up, where are you calling from?" I didn't recognize the number since I receive calls frequently on my cell. Janine replied very rude, "I said it three times already." Unacceptable customer service and terrible overall experience. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Had a very negative experience with Republic Services from the beginning. (See my initial review) This week 8/15/2022, my trash bins went missing after trash collection day. I thought they had been stolen because I had already paid my entire bill online the week prior. My boyfriend called Republic Services and asked where our trash bins were. They had mistakenly taken them believing we had canceled our services...??? (Huh??) I double checked my account. It was still active and paid up to date. My trash bins now apparently can't be dropped off for a week. So now I can have trash piled up in my garage (again!- see my first review) for a week even though I'm a paying customer for their services. Cool. No accountability. No sense of urgency. read more

I never leave reviews on Yelp, but seeing that corporate has been responding to some of these posts, maybe I can get the help I need through here. I manage 2 veterinary hospitals serviced by Republic in the Antioch area and have been having problems with missed pickups for months now. Myself and my staff have wasted an incredible amount of time calling customer service with ZERO result. The ladies on the customer service line are always very nice, but every time I ask to speak with a supervisor no one ever calls me back. This Monday, after months of trying, I was able to get a supervisor named Robert on the phone who assured me he would get back to me the next day with a solution to my issues. It is now Thursday, still no call back. The complete lack of service is unacceptable. For the amount of money we pay each month, we are not anywhere near the caliber of service expected. Drivers (when they do show up) have now started leaving our dumpsters in the wrong area and leaving the doors to our dumpster housing unit wide open. I echo the sentiment of others on this page in that if I had any other option but Republic I would have switched a long time ago. I left another message for the supervisor to call me back today. I called them to have a large pickup as I was moving. First the hold time to talk to a human is ridiculous. Every time I call it is like this. So I decided I didn't want to have to sit on hold again I also told them to cancel my service as of the first week of November 2020. This call to them was in October of 2020. In April 2021 I start getting calls that my bill is past due. Which I think, "Okay, I never did received a finial bill." I talk with them they tell me I owe them through March 2021. I tell them I cancelled almost seven months earlier. They tried to tell me that they have cancellation as of April 2, 2021. What I think must of happened that the new residents call for service and that's when Republic Waste realized their error but then tried to tell me I still owed them for service I never received. I wanted to settle up but they make it impossible to do. Their website is a dismal failure. You can only get their phone number and you can be old and grey before it get answered. read more

Their trucks dump trash all along your neighborhood when they do the over the top dump. They miss picking up one of the cans 30% of the month. They won't come back after you call. The guys sit on the street and play on their phones instead of working. The are the worst company because they are a monopoly. They don't care once they get the Town of Danville contract. I used to live in Benicia ,and I had very bad experience with republic services . First off if you forget your trash it's very hard to get them to come back and pick it up. THey don't have a local drop off site , I have to drive to Martinez and pay 6 dollars toll . Their trucks leak garbage juice all the times . After using republic for the past couple of years I ended my service because I found out they charge TWICE as much as the other services in Charlotte. After ending the service they charged me a fee of nearly as much as I paid for the full quarter just to remove the can...way to get a last bit of money out of a customer and ensure they never come back! I will absolutely never use Republic Services for residential or business. If you are in the Charlotte area, there are others who will offer the same service for a fraction of the cost. Using Republic Services means you are quite literally throwing twice as much money in the trash each week. That's just a fact. Two better options are Suburban Sanitation and Taylor Made Sanitation. Both are at half the cost of Republic and are even more reliable (Republic took nearly a month to come and get my can even after charging me their premium pickup price). Long story short...the savings more than cover the penalty pickup price Republic Services charges you to leave, and over the years of you being in your home or business space you owe it to yourself to put their high priced services on the curb along with their can and find another option. read more

1 star isn't low enough. The absolute ROBBERY that this company does - I pay my bill and then get no service in return. The amount of missed pickups I've had is astounding, and so I'm literally paying for nothing. I truly wish there was another service in our area because this is just a joke, truly comical at this point. Walnut Creek, Lafayette and nearby cities should write a petition to replace Republic. Their services are flawed, limited and their personnel are ignorant of their own service and rude. I lived in Dublin for 20 years where the the Waste Management Co & the San Ramon/Dublin district gave excellent services. We had 2 lenient bulk pickups a year, recycling events, holiday schedules are managed well, they have the latest recycling trucks and their personnel are trained in true customer service. We regularly give appreciation to their truck drivers because of their efficiency. read more
