Below is what I posted earlier. I had called 3 days in a row with no response, and when I finally found an email to complain to, I got a response to post my complaint in Yelp. Well, that seemed to work, as I finally got service and a call from Republic Services to follow up. So I changed my review from 1 to 3. I'm happy they finally responded, but it should not have taken 3 days, nor the situation I posted on below. Republic Services did not pick up my black landfill barrel on Tuesday. I called Tuesday afternoon and they said it would be picked up by 6pm. It was not. I called Wednesday, and they said it was on schedule to be picked up Wednesday by 6pm. It was not picked up. I called on Thursday and they said it was on schedule to be picked up by 6pm on Thursday. It was not picked up. I don't know if they just blow off their customers with repeated lies, or they simply have no idea of what's going on in their service area. I don't know if there is any other service we are able to use, as it seems they have a monopoly, and I'm not sure complaints really help any considering the very low reviews this company has for their lack of service. read more

I don't know how this company has 1.5 stars -- truly the most unreliable, unprofessional service I have ever encountered. They make talking to comcast seem like a coffee date with your bff. I've been a customer for a little over 2 months since moving to the area and I am on a first-name basis with half of their customer service team for how many times I have had to call for missed pick-ups, misinformation, being charged for services/things I don't have (and then having to call back 10x times for the same reasons when they're not handled the first time) -- the list goes on and on. I'm getting ready to rally the troops to see if we can get Recology over here -- what a waste of time, money and energy being forced to use republic. Didn't pick up reuse items that were appropriate per their list. Not a huge disappointment since the next day was waste pick up. Well, they never showed. The worst part is that someone added their junk to our pile so now we have more than we originally had to dispose of. We called twice today and they reassured us that they were on their way. Terrible customer service. They are feckless. They cancelled my service because they never sent me bill. I payed up the bill plus a predatory reinstatement fee. Fast forward a few weeks my pickup stops happening. I call them and the agent that took my payment NEVER reinstated my account. They then tell me they can't pick up my trash because it takes a few DAYS for their system to push it through. Every week it's the same old thing, but now it's getting worse. The driver who picks up the recycle (brown) bin should be fired. He picks up the bin and while still moving, dumps it in the truck and then slams it down. Today he carried it 30 feet down the street and dropped it on its side with lid open. what's the hurry? Matter of fact they contacted me several times to make sure I was getting serviced, had the missed pick-up completed, and then let me know to connect with them if there are any more issues. I live in Pleasant Hill, CA. They supposedly offer 2 free bulk pickups a year, which I never used for the 25 years I've lived there. But I'm moving, and tried to schedule one. First one was not picked up because I didn't know it had to be left in the street, and I left it next to the street. OK, so I called and rescheduled for a week later. This time, they simply did not come. I called the next day, and waited on hold for an hour or so to get it noted as a missed pickup, and schedule a pickup for that day if possible, or the next day. Well, it was not done at all. It looks like it was entered as bulk pickup, but the stupid software forces you to choose either trash, recycled, or yard waste that was missed, so that might be the problem. So, now I have to call again, as there is no place online to enter a missed bulk pickup. Their voicemail sucks, and the first time I called before, I was disconnected instead of transferred, and had to wait on hold another 45 minutes. This is just unacceptable, and I plan to complain to the city, although what can they do - there is no competition. Aren't monopolies wonderful! read more

if you live in certain cities, you are FORCED to use their services only if you need a dumpster. The process is unclear, but you are rushed to agree and pay before you get the contract. If I could give no stars I really would! I ordered a new green can, after one of their trucks dropped mine in the back of the truck and cracked and broke it. I didn't think it would be such a big deal to replace a green can. I was promised a replacement 5 weeks ago. They have come up with a new excuse for not replacing my can every time I call. Week 6 and still no replacement can and no smaller size replacement can until my size comes in. No customer service manager will call me back. They refuse to make an exception and rush my replacement can as soon as they come in even if it's not my pick up day. Unacceptable! **Update** My brand new can came in. I wrote a pretty scathing review, which I stood by for a while- but I've got to admit things have improved. I received a call from their new manager of ops, who was pretty straightforward about what was happening over there. We had about another month of sporadic missed pick ups, but things improved gradually. A couple years later, I really have no complaints at all. read more

Due to having surgery, I was unable to get my trash cans out on time. I called to see if a one time pickup up off schedule could be accomplished. A pick up was possible but it was an additional $45 and the recycle can could not rescheduled. I have had missed pick ups, drivers that refused to service the cans, and other issues where my trash was not picked up. I did not receive a refund for that week and was inconvenienced with a late or rescheduled pick up. Further, the drivers are rude and are entitled. It's one of the reasons I leave no gifts or tips for the drivers because they never go "above and beyond" for the customer unless they're compensated for it. They NEVER get out of the truck and to do something outside of pulling a lever. They're either incapable of it or they refuse to do because there is no personal gain in it. I was told the additional charge was "company policy" and could and would not be waived. Policy is not law. It can be waived if the person on the company end chooses to do so. I have been a customer for years but I'm in a monopoly. I don't have a competitor I can switch to so the company doesn't "give a shit" about my satisfaction with their services. Granted, the missed pick up was due to my error on this occasion. But given all the missed pick ups over the years I have endured waiting for, at times, days beyond the scheduled pick up. Unfortunately, customer service is nonexistent at Republic Services, it's more like a Customer Monopoly. read more

Thank you as it seems the issue of glass being left in the street has been remedied. Unfortunately, it took negative reviewsand complaint to the city to get attention. The person that is responsible for customer service in my area was dismissive, and rude even hanging up on me. Glass litters our street every week after pickup. I Googled Republic Services.it said they observed the 4th of July, and my garbage would be picked up on Sat. 5th. I didn't put my garbage out. RS' web said they would be on a regular schedule. I called and the costumer rep. was willing to credit 1/2 of the $40 to resend to the driver. The supervisor sent a truck out and got it free of charge. They gave me great customer service for something that was not their fault read more

Again same issue of 2 more failed pickups. The staff seem to forget my can routinely! I've gone to extreme lengths to make the can visible by pushing it into the middle of the street. I move all the cars night before so the visual field is clear. They just don't bother to get out the truck & look. I have to call so much for complaints that it's a full time job. I just talked to a customer service specialist about our green waste not being picked up regularly at my apartment, they sometimes go as long as a month without picking it up. While talking to the customer service specialist they were super rude, said that they have no record of my apartment and are going to make a note to not pick up any of our garbage, recycling or compost. My apartment is being managed by a management company, whom have records that it's been being paid every month so there is simply no excuse for this. I watched as the green waste truck picked up everyone's green waste on the Main Street, but didn't come through the court I live on. Maybe it's their system, maybe it's not. We had garbage illegally dumped in the street near our office and apparently Republic Services is supposed to come pick it up. (According to Contra Costa County Public Works) A garbage truck came on the second day. The guy got out of his truck and took photos. My boss talked to him and he told my boss, "I'm not picking this up. Its hazardous material. There could be fentanyl in there." I called the county to follow up and told her what happened. She said they would resubmit it to them the next week. Hey, I have a small observation. The two piles of garbage have been being ransacked by local vagrants and homeless for 8 days. The refuse is spreading into the street now and onto other properties. There's no fentanyl in it. Otherwise there would be dead bodies all over our sidewalks and street. No wonder our cities are being taken over by homelessness. Its caused by complacency by government agencies and also their contracted support. Come pick this up. This is what our trash fees and taxes pay for. This is another example of how this company operates. By the way we cleaned the mess up ourselves from the public street. I am very disappointed in your service! For some reason or another, my large pick up and bill items and trash have not been removed from my PREVIOUS Address! Called because my container's lock was broken, Republic replaced the lock and the container. I was never given the new combo for the lock and they swapped out the container for a much smaller container (half the size). I have called 4 times already and escalated my call to their management team. It's been a week now with no solution. Trash is now on top of my container and it's now very unsanitary. The only positive thing about this business is that they come once a week and pick up waste. Other than that have never had a good experience. Customer service SUCKS. My lid to the waste bin broke. I called and they said next pick up to leave the bin with the lid out after pick up. did as instructed and can was waiting for me when I got home from work empty and lidless. I thought okay maybe they are coming tomorrow. So I patiently waited till the next day. Got home from work can was still the same. Called and they said that since they had picked up already they would replace it next pick up. So waited till Monday and guess what? Yeah ur right , they didn't replace. So I called again on Tuesday and this time the lady said they were out of bins. Like really? Your main job is to provide waste pick ups services and provide bins to put such waste in. How could you be out???? Anyways this time she said it be 3-4 weeks. So yeah you guessed it. I went a few weeks with a lidless bin. Recently found out there was a lean on the title to my house took almost a month to get ahold of someone that could help me. This is RIDICULOUS. This is my third missed pickup in the short span of three months. Which means, they have missed 25% of my pickups. This is so painfully annoying especially when I am forced to use their services. Customer service is generally friendly, so one star. Republic Services is a waste hauling company. That is the service they are supposed to provide in exchange for a fee. Yet, the amount of missed pick ups I've had is staggering. I lived in SF for 15 years and Sunset Scavenger is significantly more reliable than Republic. I currently have a compost bin on my curb that hasn't been picked up in two weeks (despite repeated calls and app requests). What's nuts, and this isn't the first time, the compost truck picked up every bin on my block except mine. My husband is a driver for the company and the problem with the service is not with the drivers but with lack of proper maintenance with their trucks. Example, cylinder, hydraulics to lift the garbage bins, mechanical issues causing trucks to break down and the company purchasing cheap/low quality replacement parts making many trucks to be out of service for a year leaving them abandoned in the yard. In turn, HR Melissa and her supporting managers idea to resolve the issue is to terminate the drivers and to blame them as fault for their angry customers. read more

Wow! Paying a monthy fee for a service that can't even do their job and pick up my overflowing trash on weekly, scheduled basis. When I spoke with the representative in the phone I was notified I needed to call before 3 pm if they missed my pickup to return the following day otherwise it would bethe following business day they pick up. They've skipped my scheduled pickup twice now within a week. Long story short, my overflowing trash still isn't picked up despite my diligence to have it out. This is your typical hack operation. This company is a JOKE! I don't know why cities keep falling for their scam and replacing reliable services like Waste Management with them. They constantly miss pickup at our business location, pickup is a Wednesday. I'll check the online and the driver will mark that they picked up our trash, but I will check our on site cameras over the course of an hour and no truck will go by. I've also seen them drive down our road and just go right by our dumpster entirely? So they'll promise return pickup on Thurs or Fri. Never happens. We were supposed to have a locking dumpster unit, per our prior contract with WM. It took almost a year for them to deliver us the proper dumpster, repeated monthly calls, and complaints. They also during that time charged us as having that locking unit, and never reversed the charges for it despite constantly promising to. We finally got our locking dumpster, but they have yet to provide me with a lock for it. Why wasn't a lock provided with delivery of the dump?? Again, monthly calls to facilitate this, always a promise to deliver within 48 hours, and yet I am back on the phone, to complain about not getting my lock, and to complain about these fees I'm paying yet again.
