There have been multiple occasions where I have received the following email: Delayed Solid Waste Service Mar 20, 2026 Your solid waste service at (removed) is delayed by six hours because of unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to correct the problem. They never did show up. Now, I call today to cancel my service, and they are telling me they are still going to charge me for the month?! Charge me?! So, apparently 7 years ago, I submitted a 1-star (even though I wish I could give 0) for this company. Fast forward to the present, and this company's level of professionalism and service matches the junk that we pay them to pick up. Before, I had problems with their recycling and waste pick up. After that one month of terrible service, I can say it was okay since. My new issue is my yard waste pickup. Last fall, they missed my yard pick up 4 times in 5 weeks. And this week, they missed my pick up again. Keep in mind that after the miss, I called them right away the following day to request a pickup and stressed how I needed this resolved, as I cannot do yardwork if they don't empty out my yard waste bins. They told me they contacted operations and my waste would be picked up that day, nothing happened. I called this morning, same run around, no pickup. Now the office is closed for the weekend, and I can't do my yardwork. I hate changing service, but at this point, I think I have to push through and find someone else that works in this area. This company is prompt at collecting payment, but fails to deliver. I am so upset and frustrated now. They took my trash can by mistake on Friday February 7. Claim they cannot return until 14th. they skipped my recycle while collecting everyone else's it had nothing to do with the weather. They will not respond Claim there's no refund as a result of their negligence. Thing is, they are adamant about our payments, but not about their services. They were good when they started, but are just awful now. I cancelled service after they broke one can and spilled the other without cleaning. They are supposed to pick up the cans after cancellation, but have missed 4 pickups so far and are trying to charge me for the missing cans. Stay far away from them. Update - 11 days later and they missed another pick up, and have not removed the charge on my cancelled account that is due to their own vast incompetence. Those who run this company are indeed thieves like other people have said here. They raised the bill saying we have too much trash and asked us to install locks on our dumpster. We did that but recently, they have missed multiple pickups. Its been a month now and they have not picked up our trash. we called and they said they could not get to it because access was blocked by some parked car. That was a lie because I stopped one of their truck picking up the dumpster at the business next to ours and he said he could not pick ours up because his truck was a back loader and ours need a front loader and that he would tell his boss to send and front loader. There was no vehicle blocking access the our small dumpster with wheels. Anyone can move this dumpster with one hand. They've never notified us about the missed pickups. read more

Specifically, I'm talking about the folks that do the actual pick ups. During this morning's pick up of recycle and yard waste, residual yard waste was strewn about in front of my driveway and one (yes, just one, but it should always be zero) aluminum can. Our street has been skipped two weeks in a row. We called repeatedly yesterday and were told the trash truck is coming. When you click on missed collection on the website, it takes you to a page that says they will return in 24 hours. Calling to leave a message, disconnects the line. When we reported the skip for last week, they told us the internal report said collected. Use another service if you have the choice. read more

Not only did they not take my trash, for some reason they stuffed my can to overflowing with someone else's very heavy garbage. I've now got a half dozen trash bags of someone else's trash. My Extremely Disappointing Experience with Republic Services I just had a very frustrating experience with Republic Services regarding a refund of $144.33. My account clearly shows a negative balance of -$144.33, yet my service was stopped. I spoke with a representative named Avony (this is the only name she gave me, and she refused to provide her last name). She informed me that she couldn't process the refund because the account had allegedly been transferred to another person. I was shocked and asked how that could be possible when I still live at the same address and have just renewed my lease for another year. She said, "Let me check," and after a few minutes, she came back saying, "It looks like there was some kind of error, but I still can't issue a refund until we get the trash cans. There are fees associated with that, and they must be paid first." I asked, "How much are the fees?" She replied, "How many trash cans do you have?" I asked her what their system showed, as I've been renting this home for over five years and have always had service with them. She insisted I tell her how many cans I use. I responded that I've been using one for years. She then said I'd have to pay fees for two other cans, one of which has a $30 charge, and for the other she wasn't sure but "assumes it's also $30." I said, "Wait a minute - I never denied having the cans, I simply said I don't remember how many there are. And are you telling me you're guessing the second fee based on the first? What kind of business is this?" I clarified that I have three cans: a large blue one, a medium black one, and a small yellow one. I asked her if these were the ones she was referring to. Her response? "I don't know. I don't live in that area!" Unbelievable. That's the level of professionalism I was met with from their Republic Services customer service. Eventually, I politely asked to speak with a supervisor. Thankfully, the supervisor I spoke with was helpful. She said they will process the refund today and said she would look into the issue of the account being listed under another name at my address and update me soon. It has been very difficult to speak to an actual person and when I did she admitted that you can't cancel by calling your local office. Just when I thought it was a done deal I received a robo call that my service was being discontinued due to lack of payment! I paid for service for 15 years. This is a repeat report. RS does a fine job of routine and on schedule trash and recycle pickup. My review two years ago addressed the identical problem. We have had missed yard waste pickup for the last four weeks. So to avoid this, they appear to have removed any ability to enter an online complaint. If you don't call between their prescribed hours, and sit on the phone, they will acknowledge you were missed, and promise to do better. However because my regular trash pickup is the next day, the yard waste that I spent a lot of time and effort to separate, gets tossed into the regular trash. Yes, my yard waste is gone and that's good. Nope, it is not being recycled in a beneficial way. I give them two starts for the two services they deliver. Frustrating. read more

We changed to Evergreen from Republic the end of June as they are 1/3 of the price AND pick up all 3 types of trash on the SAME day instead of 3 different days. We were told our cans would be picked up on Monday July 7, 2025. They never were and we were assured on 6/26/25 that would happen. So I waited no pickup on Tuesday or Wednesday and then I called. The first person told me the date changed to 7/19/25 and I asked why didn't anyone tell us about the change and why? He said he didn't know and when I asked to speak to someone higher up I was on hold again and had to re explain it all over. Mind you it's been over an hour now. At least this lady was able to tell me 2 trucks were broken down and they were short staffed but all should be good for 7/19/25. So it's now 4 pm 7/19/25, a Saturday, and no pickup up yet and nobody is open to call. What now? It seems getting them to pick up their cans! When I called to cancel the service, the representative said they would lower the price to match the offer I received from the other company and said the company would not know if the bill was high for me unless I called. She made it sound like it was my fault for paying a lot. How do you not know if the bill is high after you doubled my dues in 4 years? I did not increase the amount I paid. Your company did. It took 3 separate calls and over an hour of holding to cancel services due to a military move. They don't answer the phone, and they don't call you back when they say they will. I was supposed to get a call from a supervisor and it never happened. I also requested a call back when it was my turn in the holding queue and that never happened. This is a complaint about Republic Trash Services. Republic Trash services has the address of 4619 West Ox Rd. in Fairfax, Virginia. They recently billed me $43.46, which was an in an email dated 14 September 2025. I would like to note that I closed my account with REPUBLIC TRASH SERVICES back on 6 August 2025. When I closed my account via ph. call on 25 July 2025, Republic and I agreed that they would pick up my two trash containers on 8 August 2025. They said they would charge me $34.18 as a pick-up charge. I agreed to the date (8 Aug) and to the charge. However, I was traveling in Colorado when the pick-up was scheduled to occur. As it happened, I had to nuisance my neighbors to roll out my two containers on 8 August, which my neighbors did. Then my neighbors reported that nobody picked up the trash containers. I therefore asked my neighbors if they would roll the trash containers back to my garage (so that the court I live on wouldn't look bad by having trash containers sit out for an unnumbered number of days.). Come to find out that my neighbors rolled the two containers back out to the curb every day for six more days and the pick-up occurred on 14 August. Therefore, I figured that maybe Republic would cut me some slack on the charges since they put me to a lot of inconvenience by not meeting the deadline that they established for the pick-up. And instead, they ending up charging me more! ($43 vice $34) .I was very unhappy with their response. People should be careful when they do business with Republic Trash Services because they don't always do what they say they're going to do. read more

Terrible company. Missed pickups. mixing of trash and recyclables, and VERY difficult to contact. Calling Customer services lines can result in a "hold" status for up to an hour or more. Customer service reps are always friendly and, I think, try to solve your problems, but the company doesn't follow through. We finally decided to terminate this service. So far, they have failed to pick up their containers on 3 occasions THEY scheduled, causing me to have to spend time contacting customer service again! Republic Services' acceptable service ended when I signed up for their trash pickup. My experience has declined sharply since then, especially regarding getting assistance. Everytime, you call, be prepared to wait a minimum of 30 minutes. I am officially canceling my services with them and switching to another company. 1. BIN SIZE: Compared to competitors in the area, the bins, specifically recycle, are a fraction of the size. 2. PRICE: We paid Republic approximately $200 per quarter for over 3 years (possibly more as I don't have records further back). The competitor is coming in at $100 per quarter for 1 year and then $120 after that. WOW! I save $400 year 1 and $320 each subsequent year. 3. RECYCLE: Republic no longer picks up glass in our area. Competitors do. 4. PICK-UP DAYS: Republic requires trash on one day and recycle on another making such that we have bins on the street multiple days a week. Competitors offer pick up on the same day reducing clutter and the inconvenience of hauling bins on multiple days. 5. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I've been on hold over 1 hour multiple times to talk to a person. Competitors offer a human on initial answer or after menu selections. Republic does not invest in existing customers nor their concerns. 6. WEBSITE: The website does not support the same functionality as calling customer service. For example, we were not able to cancel our service nor change the service in my name. We had to talk to a rep which took multiple attempts and multiple hours (yes hours) on the phone. 7. QUESTIONABLE PRACTICES: To change the account from my husband's name to my name we had to cancel and restart service which cost a fee. When we cancelled the services, we were charged a $25 fee to pick up the bins. 8. COMPLIMENTS: CS Team is friendly. Trash & Recycle pick up is as reliable as others I've had experience with, so they offer average service. SUMMARY: Double the price for 1/2 the service with no investment in existing customers and questionable business practices. read more

We just moved to Fairfax and this is one of the services that we considered. I'm glad we did not pick them. The previous owners of the house had them and Republic was supposed to do the last trash pick up at our house today and also take away their old bins. They didn't collect the trash today and they have not picked up their containers There are also other bins in our cul-de-sac that the neighbors said have been sitting there for months waiting for a Republic to come reclaim them when they switched to a new company.
