Excellent customer service. Very easy and quick. They'll take anything metal and recycle it.

I highly recommend Junk King (Fairfax) for your junk removal job. A crew of three (Marcus and two…read moreothers) showed up to our home to remove 8 large, heavy, bulky items from our basement. To complicate matters the only access to and from the basement is our "kickback"/"switchback" stairwell. These are the stairs that go up 6/7 steps, come to a landing, switch direction, and then go up an additional 6/7 steps. In less than 90 minutes all 8 items were out of our basement and loaded onto their truck. Junk King got us out of quite a bind as just the morning before, the original company we had contracted with (local junk removal company here in Purcellville, VA) sent out a crew of two who left without taking out a single item. We were quite irate with the lack of competence and preparedness of this original company. I had even done my due diligence and had the President/owner of the original company come out to see the scope of the job first hand earlier this month. The owner assured us it was a job they would be able to do. Unfortunately within less than a minute of the two man crew (from the original company) arriving and seeing the items and stairwell, the Crew Leader commented on the bulk and heft of the items. Upon ME suggesting some pieces may require being taken apart, dismantled or even destroyed the crew lead responded by informing me he did not have tools on the truck to do the job. The two man crew left without a single attempt of removing anything. The Junk King crew informed me of their ETA on our scheduled day and communicated throughout their travel to our location to let us know they were delayed. Once the three man crew arrived, each introduced himself to me and we quickly went to the basement to asses the job. They provided me the quote, I accepted the quote, and they immediately got to work. Junk King was able to remove all items, some requiring a minimal amount of dismantling with tools THEY brought (nothing more needed than their own two hands, wrenches, and screwdrivers). Within 90 minutes of them pulling into our driveway our items were up, out of our house, loaded onto their truck, and they were pulling out of our driveway with a job exceptionally well done. Not once did they utter any doubt that any of the items would be unable to be removed. I was so impressed with their level of communication with each other throughout the process. They were, hard working, up beat and positive during their time here. Junk King is a 5 out of 5 for us. We try to support local but this time got burned. So thankful for Junk King. For reference they removed the corner piece and main section of our sectional sofa (that main piece alone sat no less than three people-it was big), pool table, exercise bike, ping pong table, foosball table, rocker recliner and old version very heavy and bulky big screen TV (thank goodness they don't make them like that anymore). The Junk King crew managed all of them through and out of our ominous "kickback"/"switchback" staircase. They even brought the TV up INTACT. True professionals!!

However, you can't beat the price! Delivery and pick up was always on time and communication was excellent. I have recommended Junk King to several friends looking to do the same.

EDIT - Within 10 minutes or so of this post being live, I get a phone call from Phillip... the…read moreowner of Garby. He apologized profusely and says that no one had informed him of this service issue. He said that he himself is going to go by my house this afternoon and pick up the piece. Apparently, this has identified a process failure within his company, and he promised to correct it so it doesn't repeat. Props to Phillip for taking ownership of the issue instead of handing it off to someone else to resolve. If he keeps his word and the piece gets picked up I wll come back and improve my rating . EDIT 2 - Phillip was true to his word and picked up the trunk before I returned home. As promised, I have increased my rating from a 2 to a 4 star. Originally I had planned to raise it to a 3 star if the trunkhad been collected, but in recognition of the fact that Phillip understands that talk is cheap but actions are putting your money where your mouth is, as he left a small token of apology at my door. Yelp wouldn't let me do 3.75 so I rounded up in recognition... nice save Phillip. ORIGINAL POST Trash and recycling go out on Sunday night for early Monday AM pickup. Everything out where it should be on the curb. Nothing blocking the view. Come home from work early on Monday and the trunk I put out is still there. Recycling gone, three bags of trash gone. Someone made a decision to not take this item. Couldn't have been because it was too big... 30"x18" maybe.. made of chipboard and covered in vinyl. I call their "customer service" (I use that term loosely) at about 2:45PM.. CS is open until 7p. They tell me nothing they can do, all of their people are gone for the day. OK, fine, please have someone pick it up tomorrow (Tuesday). Get home about 5PM on Tuesday and it's still there. Call Customer service - surprisingly no one answers (not really), leave a message. Fancy phone system texts me back on my cell "Sorry we missed your call, how can we help? " I reply back with the same message I left on the VM. Fast forward to Wednesday AM... text back from them with a picture from the truck with the piece in question circled, asking if this is it; I confirm it is. "Thanks, let me coordinate with the crew about picking it up." 1:20PM... text back like they are delivering good news... "The crew tells me they can pick it up tomorrow morning..." I should be ecstatic except that they are actually going to pick it up on my next regularly scheduled trash day.... So, no extra effort to correct their mistake. Apparently, it's acceptable to the good people at Garby to leave trash in front of a customer's house for three days, then make it sound like they are doing you a favor by collecting it on a normal trash day. "And we flagged your address to ensure this never happens again"... that and $5.25 will get me a grande latte at Starbucks.

They've given away the majority of the clothes by now. Their reason was that they weren't profiting in sales. Now, the warehouse has a more open layout. The first warehouse sells housewares that's ridiculously overpriced. Depending on the day, they'll have a market down sale according to the color of the price tag. Like yellow tags are 50% off. It was still expensive, and I was looking for a rice cooker to no avail. I saw a used Hamilton Beach crock pot for $30?!! No sales, like that's pretty steep, despite that someone donated and its used! The majority of staff are nice and helpful. I'm just disappointed that they don't do clothes anymore, and don't like their mark up tactics. Best time to shop here is follow them on IG, see which color tag is on sale, and shop.
