EDIT - Within 10 minutes or so of this post being live, I get a phone call from Phillip... the owner of Garby. He apologized profusely and says that no one had informed him of this service issue. He said that he himself is going to go by my house this afternoon and pick up the piece. Apparently, this has identified a process failure within his company, and he promised to correct it so it doesn't repeat. Props to Phillip for taking ownership of the issue instead of handing it off to someone else to resolve. If he keeps his word and the piece gets picked up I wll come back and improve my rating . EDIT 2 - Phillip was true to his word and picked up the trunk before I returned home. As promised, I have increased my rating from a 2 to a 4 star. Originally I had planned to raise it to a 3 star if the trunkhad been collected, but in recognition of the fact that Phillip understands that talk is cheap but actions are putting your money where your mouth is, as he left a small token of apology at my door. Yelp wouldn't let me do 3.75 so I rounded up in recognition... nice save Phillip. ORIGINAL POST Trash and recycling go out on Sunday night for early Monday AM pickup. Everything out where it should be on the curb. Nothing blocking the view. Come home from work early on Monday and the trunk I put out is still there. Recycling gone, three bags of trash gone. Someone made a decision to not take this item. Couldn't have been because it was too big... 30"x18" maybe.. made of chipboard and covered in vinyl. I call their "customer service" (I use that term loosely) at about 2:45PM.. CS is open until 7p. They tell me nothing they can do, all of their people are gone for the day. OK, fine, please have someone pick it up tomorrow (Tuesday). Get home about 5PM on Tuesday and it's still there. Call Customer service - surprisingly no one answers (not really), leave a message. Fancy phone system texts me back on my cell "Sorry we missed your call, how can we help? " I reply back with the same message I left on the VM. Fast forward to Wednesday AM... text back from them with a picture from the truck with the piece in question circled, asking if this is it; I confirm it is. "Thanks, let me coordinate with the crew about picking it up." 1:20PM... text back like they are delivering good news... "The crew tells me they can pick it up tomorrow morning..." I should be ecstatic except that they are actually going to pick it up on my next regularly scheduled trash day.... So, no extra effort to correct their mistake. Apparently, it's acceptable to the good people at Garby to leave trash in front of a customer's house for three days, then make it sound like they are doing you a favor by collecting it on a normal trash day. "And we flagged your address to ensure this never happens again"... that and $5.25 will get me a grande latte at Starbucks. read more

I have been with Garby for more than a year. I never had no issue at all from Garby. Being me as a senior citizen; the owner personally contact me time to time to know if there is any service issue; which I never had. Thank you Garby for giving me great service in general especially this winter! read more

Zero stars. Supposed to get 3 free months. Instead, they took a "little bit" off of each bill until it would supposedly add up to three months free eventually. Wait...what? Dropped off 4 bins (why?). After a lot of calling , said they'd charge me $75 to pick up the two extra bins I never wanted to begin with. Anyway, switching back to one of the other more reputable trash services for less hassle. read more

Honestly great. Communication is spectacular and they do exactly what they say they will. We switched after American Disposal refused to do their job and even accused us of lying and not putting our can out when they didn't pick it up. So happy I switched. If you are reading this and comparing with American Disposal save yourself the trouble and go with Garby. I'm telling everyone I know to do the same and hope my neighbors switch as well. read more

I have been with Garby for not quite a year and a half. I wrote my first review ever, of anything, shortly after beginning service. I was totally impressed. First, with the personal and personable communication between Philip and myself. Phone calls, texts, and emails into the late evening to help me through the sign-up process. It wasn't difficult, I just had a few questions. All was easily taken care of. Subsequent communication has been the same. My pick-up service has been wonderful. I have NO complaints or concerns. Nothing has changed in the year half I have been using their service. Communication has remained the same...excellent. Trash pick up is extraordinary. No debris left on the curb, cans are replaced almost exactly where I have left them for emptying! My driveway has never been obstructed with the empty cans. Bulk item pickup, with an appropriate fee, is also wonderful and is done in a timely manner!!! What you sign up for is what you get! Maybe a little more! Consistency, good service, great communication is paramount for good business and customer satisfaction. I highly recommend Garby for refuse service in NOVA. Today was our first day of service, for the past 5 weeks we have been trying to have one of the big truck servers pick up 4 reusable bags that we bagged with leaves with no success, only lame excuses. The bags were extremely heavy as they soaked up much water weight as they sat on the curb. The guys muscled the bags up in the truck, very impressed! Garby also has new, smaller trucks that don't tear up the streets like the big truck guys. Big truck guys do not appear to maintain their trucks well as they leave hydraulic fluid all over the street. Go with Garby, you will not be disappointed, much better rates as well! read more
