I walk my dog regularly and see Bates trash receptacles all over the neighborhood, so I know they service the area otherwise why would I have contacted them? I called the office and was told they don't answer pricing questions over the phone and I needed to submit the online form, which I did. It took days for them to respond and tell me they needed to check my area to see if they provide service. 0/10. We switched to Bates a year ago after growing increasingly frustrated with our previous provider of many years. We are very happy we did! While calling around in search of a new company, we were mist impressed with our conversation with Theresa (Teri) Cunningham at Bates. She was pleasant and helpful then and has continued to be so whenever we reach out. Bates has never missed a pickup (a too common experience with our previous provider) and our driver (lEdmond) always leaves our bins closed and out of the road. He even picked up over 15 bags of leaves and yard debris yesterday! We didn't expect that. We had actually emailed Teri on Sunday night asking about the guideline for large yard debris pickup. Teri emailed Monday morning, saying usually 6 bags is the limit,but that Edmond had just picked them all up! We have been very happy we switched to Bates Trucking. We had Bates for 3 years. During that time service was spotty at best. There were many weeks that our cans were not emptied. When a truck would come they would drop both the trash and recycling can into the same truck. Bates stopped serving our area and was supposed to pick their cans up. We live in Annandale and have for some time. We have used multiple residential trash haulers with limited success. Through June 2022 we had American Disposal who is an unmitigated disaster. The only consistent thing they did was get everything wrong all the time. We switched to Bates and haven't looked back since. We are scheduled for two trash pickups. one recycling and one yard waste pickup per week. Since the end of June they have missed two pickups. Both times we received an email notification that day indicating the missed pickup would be made up the next day which in fact happened. Theresa C is my go to person with any questions or comments. They are a little more expensive but are worth every penny. read more

They did not pick up our trash for the entire month of April, and still continue to send us invoices for that time period. I have contacted them multiple times telling them I will not be paying due to their lack of service but they don't seem to get it. I'm hoping I can update this review with a better review in future, but so far my past 6 weeks with this company has been terrible. I paid for 3 months, did not receive the large recycling bin I paid for, did not receive the trash can. My service started about 1 month ago, and my garbage and recycling have not been picked up once by the company. The only reason I don't have piles of garbage is that my former company kept picking up my trash by accident. I phoned every couple days. Their phones don't work. You press 1 for a call back and do not get a call back. You can stay on hold for hours. A few times I was lucky enough to get an actual person. I spoke to people at least 2 times a week for the past 5 weeks. The employees are very nice and are trying to be helpful, but it seems like nothing ever happens past the phone call. I was told a few times that my cans were coming, but then after a couple weeks was told that they didn't actually have any cans. I understood that sometimes issues happen, so I wrote "BATES" signs on my garbage cans and recycling, but they still didn't pick up my trash or recycling. Finally after a month, I was given a trash can, but not the large recycling bin I paid extra for. The man who dropped the trash can off told me he'd bring the other bin the next day, but didn't. I talked to a couple people during the week who all assured me that the recycling bin would be there "tomorrow". No recycling bin. No trash pick up this week, again. I've now been told that the supervisor is bringing my cans by Monday. (I've been told this a few times, I did hear them talking on the phone, but I've also heard that before). I'm hoping this is actually happening, because I'm tired of storing my garbage in the house, in hopes that I can put it out to be picked up, without an animal ripping the bags open. Again, every person I have talked to has been very nice, patient and tried to be helpful, but that's as far as the service goes. I've been told that I'll have phone calls back to confirm, no one ever calls. No replies to a Facebook message, email, and most the time I end up on hold for 20minutes-1hour, unless I give up and hang up. At this point, I'm ready to call the Better Business Bureau, I wish I had read reviews of the company before switching to them. read more

They did not pick up my trash on multiple occasions; they give you a little recycling bin for their standard fare while the competitors all have full-sized recycling bins for a LOWER fare than Bates; They forgot to set up auto pay on my account, and then said I had to pay a "reinstatement fee" to continue service. BUT to add salt on the wound, they told me a FAKE price to pay. When I replied saying the contract says this amount they told me, and I quote, "oops that was a typo, you are correct." WTH!!!! I did not break the wheels of my trash can so why should I do that. He should have had the courtesy of fixing the trash can and apologizing. I see that "Tara L" from Bates Trucking has responded to some of the reviews and says to send an email to info@batestrucking.com. After many, many phones calls to customer service in December that 1/2 of my scheduled pickups did not happen, i DID send an email to info@batestrucking.com on 1/8/19. I gave details about the issues and asked to terminate my services. I never got a response, phone call...nothing! My billing cycle is supposed to be the 10th of the month, and YES I was just billed for the month of February. I really wanted to use this family-owned company, one that says they care about their customers, but I have had enough. I tried to work with them and be understanding (most of the missed pickups were during the holidays) but no one ever contacted me from the company. They mandated in November 2019 that you had to provide them with a credit card/checking acct for payment or your service would be terminated. I did provide them with one but now they are continuing to charge me, even when I requested my service to be terminated. The Good: Price is reasonable The Bad: They will never remove your trash or recycling. Not on the days they claim they will pick up, not on the days they won't pick up, not if you call them, not even if the truck is outside of your house at 0630, and not if you call. I've been with the company since they bought out my old trash removal company. I don't produce a lot of trash and rarely require twice a week pickup, although that's what I pay for. They have one job and they can't do it, or better yet, won't do it. Their booking keeping system has proven to be ill-equipped to handle what is necessary for this industry as I have had to prove payments when 3 months after payment was made is now suddenly showing as past due. They have recently moved over to autopay by credit card and I have to tell you, I am terrified. They have already overcharged me by 2 months. I would cancel my service, but I am moving in a month and a half. I just want to get through until I move. Customer service and contact leave a lot to be desired. Sometimes you're met with a friendly voice, sometimes not. Sometimes they answer the phone during business hours and sometimes not. I sent an email on Tuesday concerning the overpayment and proof and 48 hours I still have not received any acknowledgment or action from Bates. I just want my trash to be picked up when you say it will be and not have to call you every single week. I just want to pay what I've agreed to, and not have to constantly prove that I've paid you because your back end system cannot handle your revenue. My Recommendation: RUN! I would give them zero stars if I could. I have twice a week pick up, Monday and Thursday. They are constantly missing days of the week. My trash the past two weeks has been on the curb Sunday night for Monday morning pick up. They haven't shown up until Wednesday. Then missed our Thursday pick up. When we called they said we had to email our cancelation and it could only be 30 days after our current bill. Then they tried charging us for can pick up. They took my start up fee of $99 and never dropped off a can after repeated calls for one to be sent. On JAN 6, 2020 Bates trash ruck (license plate 57-247) used Henderson Road as a pass through road. The truck continuously road on, or over the double yellow line. Henderson Road is way to small for such a large truck. This is a single lane neighborhood with a constantly winding road. Trucks this size should never use side roads unless they are performing work there (NOT a single garbage stop was made). This is a complete disregard for everyone's safety and needs to stop immediately. read more

This time they missed multiple in a row and when you call them they keep saying the rounds are not done for the day and they have till the evening. No one answers the phone, you are constantly transferred back to the automated prompts which are all incorrect. There is no "operator". If you have contact with a live person, they are rude and not helpful. My first week in my home I watched them perform the trash pick up and they allowed glass bottles and trash to fall out of the bins. The trash was left all over the street, broken glass and all. When we ran out to try and stop the truck to let them know they were dropping trash, the driver just looked at us and kept driving. Don't ever use this company. You will regret it. Most calls get routed to voice mail and reaching a live person (usually rude) takes 15 to 20 minutes of repeated calls. If their service wasn't so affordable I would be searching for a trash service that cared enough about their customers to answer their phone. Please do yourself a favor and never use this company. My husband and I had their private subscription for their trash services and it was the biggest headache of our life. They never came, unless we called customer service to report a missed pick-up. Even when we called customer service, sometimes they STILL would not come. We had the service for three months and got our trashed picked up only three times on their own, without us calling. When we called to cancel our subscription, we got a refund quickly (thankfully) but we had to call them repeatedly for them to pick up their own trash bins. Then today, three months later, they sent us a pro-rated bill for the last quarter even though we cancelled four months ago. Luckily we ended up getting a new credit card prior to receiving this bill, otherwise they likely would have tried to charge our card. I don't think I have ever seen a more poorly run business. I first contacted Bates over a year and a half ago and requested service. Bizarre, no communication and no containers were ever dropped off and then months later an invoice. An invoice for nothing, so I ignored it. A year later, I attempted again to order service and it has been the worst experience. A culmination of all of the 17 other negative reviews from other customers, comments of experiences. I had to make repeated calls to get receptacles and only ever received containers for basic trash. Numerous calls to notify them of lack of recycle and yard waste containers, asking to please deliver and here it is approx 9 months gone by and no containers delivered. Also, repeatedly have the issue of lack of trash service pickup on designated days and unanswered customer service phone lines or no return calls. Sat down this evening with thoughts of writing a complaint letter, but after reading Better Business Bureau review and Yelp reviews, I have decided it would only be a waste of time. Instead, I will be writing a letter cancelling service and they had better not expect payment for the amount due on the recent invoice. LOL! What are they going to do, have a rep actually communicate with me, provide me with containers and pickup on scheduled trash removal days? -Agree with another yelp review that I doubt that the company separates waste from recycling materials.
