I've been here multiple times over the past 2 years. Just FYI, its available to Fairfax County residents, and a stone's throw behind the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. Basically said its the dump with a fancy name. They have drop off for regular trash, yard waste, battery recycling, hazardous waste, appliances. There are two options if you're non-commercial which would likely be you the reader of this review. 1. you can get your vehicle weighed upon entry and exit, or pay by the load. 2. Basically the cashier looks at your vehicle and you tell them what you have then they quote you a price based on the price list on their kiosk window. Pretty simple. If you do 2. no need to come back and get weighed. They take cash or credit cards too. Easy quick, and generally not too busy on the weekends if you get there early.

So I know it's a little bit weird for me to be reviewing, well, the dump, but hey, nobody else has yet, and who knows who might find my experiences interesting and/or helpful, right? Right. So after the epic mega-party Yelp Gets Lucky went down on Friday, I found myself with an entire truck-full of juicy, post-party trash to get rid of. So bright and early the next morning, I hauled my sorry butt outta bed and made my way with said truck o' trash to the I-66 Transfer Station. You see how much I love my Yelpers? Now you know that my dedication truly knows no bounds. ;) They make it pretty easy for you, which is a good thing for a trash-hauling neophite like myself. You drive up, they weigh the entire truck on the way in, and then you back the truck up to these guard rails that overlook multiple ginormous dumpsters on the ground below. Then, it's just a matter of dumping all the trash down into them! Because you park the truck above the actual dumpster, it's actually super easy to get everything inside. Gravity most definitely works to your advantage here. Oh, and evidently they don't really care about you getting every last cup and plastic fork into the actual dumpsters... or at least, they'd rather you not climb onto the other side of the guard rails to pick them all up like I was trying to. (I got in a widdle bit of twouble... oops! I was just trying to be thorough, Mr. Trash Man!) They weigh your truck again on the way out, and you pay the difference in weight. For 600 pounds of juicy party trash, we ended up paying exactly $18. Not too shabby. I deduct a star because the actual hours of open operation are relatively narrow for the normal working person, and they don't offer any kind of after-hours dumping options even for a fee... which would have been really helpful given that parking a truck full of garbage on the street overnight wasn't really ideal, hahaha. But all's well that ends well, and there wasn't anything that a quick hose-down and a bit of Febreze wasn't able to fix!

No clue as to what this is.

Easy to find, relatively easy to follow signs to the various stations. Personnel very helpful.

This station has the most friendly and helpful people. It's also very well organized and neat and tidy....even though it's a "dump!"

EDIT - Within 10 minutes or so of this post being live, I get a phone call from Phillip... the…read moreowner of Garby. He apologized profusely and says that no one had informed him of this service issue. He said that he himself is going to go by my house this afternoon and pick up the piece. Apparently, this has identified a process failure within his company, and he promised to correct it so it doesn't repeat. Props to Phillip for taking ownership of the issue instead of handing it off to someone else to resolve. If he keeps his word and the piece gets picked up I wll come back and improve my rating . EDIT 2 - Phillip was true to his word and picked up the trunk before I returned home. As promised, I have increased my rating from a 2 to a 4 star. Originally I had planned to raise it to a 3 star if the trunkhad been collected, but in recognition of the fact that Phillip understands that talk is cheap but actions are putting your money where your mouth is, as he left a small token of apology at my door. Yelp wouldn't let me do 3.75 so I rounded up in recognition... nice save Phillip. ORIGINAL POST Trash and recycling go out on Sunday night for early Monday AM pickup. Everything out where it should be on the curb. Nothing blocking the view. Come home from work early on Monday and the trunk I put out is still there. Recycling gone, three bags of trash gone. Someone made a decision to not take this item. Couldn't have been because it was too big... 30"x18" maybe.. made of chipboard and covered in vinyl. I call their "customer service" (I use that term loosely) at about 2:45PM.. CS is open until 7p. They tell me nothing they can do, all of their people are gone for the day. OK, fine, please have someone pick it up tomorrow (Tuesday). Get home about 5PM on Tuesday and it's still there. Call Customer service - surprisingly no one answers (not really), leave a message. Fancy phone system texts me back on my cell "Sorry we missed your call, how can we help? " I reply back with the same message I left on the VM. Fast forward to Wednesday AM... text back from them with a picture from the truck with the piece in question circled, asking if this is it; I confirm it is. "Thanks, let me coordinate with the crew about picking it up." 1:20PM... text back like they are delivering good news... "The crew tells me they can pick it up tomorrow morning..." I should be ecstatic except that they are actually going to pick it up on my next regularly scheduled trash day.... So, no extra effort to correct their mistake. Apparently, it's acceptable to the good people at Garby to leave trash in front of a customer's house for three days, then make it sound like they are doing you a favor by collecting it on a normal trash day. "And we flagged your address to ensure this never happens again"... that and $5.25 will get me a grande latte at Starbucks.
